What's up with these "crucifixes"?

From my first blog post about those ugly crucifixes in Japan, come this other ugly one.

They do not even show the bitter passion of our Lord?

How can they even be considered a crucifix or a representation of the Passion of the Lord?

They look cartoonish!

They look like a doodle of a 2nd grader in one of his notes, done because of his boredom in class!

It might have probably come from the same "artist" who gave us the twisted wire crucifix.  Probably.

What you have here folks is the continuing saga of the Japanese Catholics to have a decent looking crucifix in their churches and chapels.

Venerable Pius XII wrote in his encyclical on the Liturgy "Mediator Dei":

62. Assuredly it is a wise and most laudable thing to return in spirit and affection to the sources of the sacred liturgy. For research in this field of study, by tracing it back to its origins, contributes valuable assistance towards a more thorough and careful investigation of the significance of feast-days, and of the meaning of the texts and sacred ceremonies employed on their occasion. And it was reportedly designed by the dean Filipino theologians!] were he to order the crucifix so designed that the divine Redeemer’s body shows no trace of His cruel sufferings; and lastly were he to disdain and reject polyphonic music or singing in parts, even where it conforms to regulations issued by the Holy See. We have these images to remind us what happened.

Will the Passion of the Christ movie by Mel Gibson generated that much attention from both critics and moviegoers alike if it were less gory and violent?  Will it evoke the emotion that a real crucifixion would have if it were less bloody?

How will you ever see the wounds brought about by our sins in this kind of crucifix?

How will you ever see how the Lord suffered if His Face is represented this way?

These kind of rubbish, childish art doesn't and should never ever have a place in our houses of worship, nor in any Catholic homes for that matter!

In fact, this kind of art belongs to those who do not want to see, reflect and be touched by the bitter Passion of the Savior!

We have enemies inside the Church too.

When priests and nuns teach you to show "mercy and compassion" which has become code for "tolerating the sin of the person", then tell teach them the "truth in charity".

Don't be like other priests who are quick to draw the gun and curse you online with words like TANGA, BOBO, PULPOL!

We do not tolerate sin.

When you use the church as a social hall

So for some people, when you get the Blessed Sacrament out of the tabernacle, you do not touch the consecrated altar table, then you can use the entire church for whatever purpose you would want to use it.

Like for a masquerade ball.

You can party all you want!  That is according to this group who went ballistics in full fashion mouth frothing, ALL CAPS lunacy of the guy who made that famous. *wink*

For them, it is justified to use the house of worship as a place to party.

Yes, dear TPC readers. You read that right.

A Catholic group can find the justifciation to do that to a place reserved for the worship of God, for as long as you empty the Tabernacle and you don't mess around with the altar.

That is their concept of what the house of worship is.

Churches used to have this.

Here in the Philipppines, I always see this in San Fernando de Dilao Parish Church.

A Catholic cathedral, basilica, parish church, shrine, chapel or oratory is ALWAYS reserved and MEANT to be a place of worship and NOT for any kind of partying!

A justification from your parish priest does not JUSTIFY what you did to the House of God!

People would rather fall down on their knees so that others can pray over them but would balk at the idea of receiving Holy Communion, receiving the Lord Himself, on bended knees!

I wouldn't be surprised if someday these folks here end up becoming Evangelical Christians.

In a January 24 letter to U.S. partners, Kalen Holmes, Starbucks executive vice president, expresses support for the homosexual “marriage” legislation in Washington State. The “important legislation,” says Holmes “is core to who we are and what we value as a company.”  [So there you have it, folks.  It is not just a statement of the EVP of Starbucks, in is the CORE of what the coffee chain values...SODOMY!]

The legislation has been decried by pro-family advocates as a major threat to freedom, since it would force religious institutions to open the doors of their facilities for homosexual “marriages.”  [And homosexual intercourse is an abomination to NATURE.  And homosexual couples cannot procreate!  How in the world will you populate the world?!]

The letter, which boasts of the company’s LGBT activism begins, “Starbucks is proud to join other leading Northwest employers in support of Washington State legislation recognizing marriage equality for same-sex couples.”  [It will never be equal and no matter how many million times you say or write it down, it will never be a MARRIAGE.]

The letter concludes: “We look forward to seeing this legislation enacted into law.”

“I’m disappointed that Starbucks wants to redefine marriage, but I’m not in the least bit surprised,” Dr. Michael Brown, author of “A Queer Thing Happened to America,” told LifeSiteNews.com. “Already in 2005, they informed me in writing that, for them, ‘embracing diversity’ (which was one of their core values) included sponsorship of gay pride events even when highly inappropriate, sexual displays were paraded in public."  [So the money you use to purchase their fat-full of coffee, goes to support the filth-full of activities of the Homosexual Movement.]

“At the same time, when I asked them to name a single pro-life event they sponsored, or an event encouraging teen-abstinence or the celebration of marriage (meaning, of course, natural marriage, as God intended it), their national representative told me plainly by phone, ‘I don’t like the way this conversation is going.’ So much for diversity! Hundreds of nuns have criticized a decision by their city council that paves the way for the construction of a coal-fired power plant in Mindanao. [HUNDREDS?!?!?!]

Sister Elvie Solemino  [SISTER?!?!  Is that you?!?!  No not the one with shades.]  said today that she and around 200 members of the Association of Consecrated Women in Davao archdiocese have signed a petition demanding authorities reconsider their decision to reclassify land where Aboitiz Power Corp plans to build a 150 megawatt coal-fired power plant.

Sister Solemino said the decision was made without a proper environmental impact study and that the association will personally deliver copies to City Hall in a public demonstration of their opposition.  [And I am sure the group of nuns did, because that is what they do.  Profess vows to protect the environment....]

Davao city council last week granted the firm’s application for the land to be reclassified [Now that is fishy.] from medium industrial to heavy industrial so it can be used to locate the power plant.

Sister Solemino said the city’s decision “dismayed” the nuns because it allows Aboitiz to “disrespect the sanctity of God’s creation.”  [Uhm....]

City officials who voted in favor “disregarded the cries of the people,” she said.  [The cries of the WOMYN.]

The power company says it wants to build the plant in Davao to help augment Mindanao’s power supply.  [True if you ask me.  Mindanao power sucks!  Power outages are so common, you'd be surprised you have power!]

It says Mindanao’s heavy reliance on hydro-electric power has seriously eroded power supply reliability since it is highly vulnerable to extreme weather conditions.

“Generating power with the use of coal will significantly reduce dependence on hydro power,” the company explained.  [But it is dirty.  And Aboitiz is dirtier!]

Nonetheless, the nuns and other groups opposed to the plant have branded the city council’s decision to approve land reclassification as reckless.  [Go to the courts!  Not the streets!  Oh, yeah.  I think they don't have the evidence.]

No "Ecumenical Prayer" at Assisi

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Benedict XVI has invited Hindus, Jews, Taoists and Muslims to join him next week for a peace pilgrimage to the hilltop town of Assisi — but they won't pray together because Benedict doesn't want to show different beliefs and rituals mixing.  [And I think that this is the right way to go.  You do not pray with pagans and heathens!]

The Oct. 27 event marks the 25th anniversary of the first such interreligious prayer for peace, which was promoted by Pope John Paul II and held in the town known for its native son St. Francis.

Benedict, then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, didn't attend that first 1986 meeting and later criticized it as an example of religious relativism — the idea that there are no absolute truths and that all religions are somehow equal — [Ask some of priests and sisters and they will tell you that it is a harmless thing to have an ecumenical prayer service.  And if you say anything to the contrary or will not be amenable to holding such a service, be sure to be labelled a zealot!  This cannot be done by a Catholic.  The god of Islam and Buddhism is NOT and WILL NEVER BE ON THE SAME LEVEL as the God of Catholics, because JESUS CHRIST, true God and true Man, is the GOD of CATHOLICS]

In 2000, when he was head of the Vatican's doctrine office, Ratzinger issued a controversial document in part as a response to the Assisi meeting, which suggested the fullness of human salvation was found in the Catholic Church alone.  [Does not only suggest but explicitly says so.]

Now Benedict is presiding over his first Assisi interreligious gathering, and the decision to eliminate the common, public prayer is being seen as his way of further correcting the wrongs from the 1986 event, which was repeated in 2002, albeit with changes.

Vatican officials outlined the day's schedule Tuesday and released the guest list, which includes a record 300-plus delegates representing dozens of faiths — and even four people who profess no faith, a new feature this year.

Some of the big names include Rajhmoon Gandhi, the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, who will head a Hindu delegation; the Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams; a delegation from Israel's rabbinate authority; a Bahai, a Zoroastrian, three Jains, five Sikhs, and a Yoruba.

The Dalai Lama had a scheduling conflict and is sending an envoy, and Russia's Orthodox Church — with which the Vatican is trying to improve ties — is dispatching a representative from Kazakhstan. For the first time, a Buddhist from mainland China is coming.

Some 48 Muslims are expected, but none from Cairo's Al-Azhar institute, the pre-eminent school of Islamic learning in the Sunni Muslim world, which cut ties with the Vatican over Benedict's call for Christians to be better protected in Egypt.  [You issue a call to protect Christians being persecuted in a Muslim land, and the Muslim "school" protests!  Geez!]

The delegates will travel together with the pope aboard a train leaving from the Vatican's train station and will sit together for speeches in Assisi's St. Mary of the Angels basilica. They'll have a "spare" lunch together — obviously heavily vegetarian — and then they will go to pray privately, separately in rooms of an Assisi convent.

They'll come back together for a wrap-up session and light candles as symbols of peace.
Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson, head of the Vatican's justice and peace office, confirmed that the "novelty" of this year's agenda is that there is no common, public prayer for peace as there had been in previous Assisi encounters.

"The emphasis is on the pilgrimage, not on the common prayer," he said. But he denied the change represented any negative judgment on past meetings, saying it was merely "a way to try to improve the character itself of inviting exponents of other faiths together."

"It's an exercise of dialogue, and dialogue always respects the specific identity of the people, of individuals," he told reporters.

Traditionalist Catholics, in particular, were horrified at some of the images broadcast from the 1986 event, where non-Christians were seen praying in Catholic churches and in one, a small statue of a Buddha was reportedly placed on an altar.  [others are saying that it is on top of a tabernacle!]

Turkson said he had received e-mails from concerned Catholics, including one promising that the sender would celebrate 1,000 Masses of reparation for the harm done in Assisi.

To counter the criticism that the pope was hosting yet another Assisi gathering, the Vatican newspaper has for months been featuring essays by top Vatican cardinals who have sought to put the 2011 Assisi edition in the correct light: That it is merely a pilgrimage of people of different faiths, and that it in no way will involve any religious syncretism, or combining of different beliefs and practices.

Unusual and unprecedented

MANILA, October 13, 2011— Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Imus Bishop Luis Antonio Tagle, a known theologian, [ugh] as the new archbishop of Manila.

At 54, Tagle will succeed Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales who served the influential post for eight years.  [he is as young as Cardinal Sin!  Cardinal Sin was 53.  Well, prepare for 20 years!  Brrr!]

Archbishop-elect Tagle’s appointment was officially announced in Rome on October 13 at 12:00 noon (6:00 pm, Manila time).

The information was officially received by the Media Office of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Thursday in a communiqué from the Apostolic Nunciature in Manila.

“I write to inform you that the Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI has appointed His Excellency Most Reverend Luis Antonio Tagle, until now Bishop of Imus, as Archbishop of Manila,” said Monsignor Gabor Pinter, Charge D’ Affaires.

Rosales, who just turned 79 years old last August 16, earlier said that the Vatican has already accepted his resignation early this year and was just waiting for his successor to be named.

The cardinal submitted his resignation in 2007 when he turned 75, the mandatory retirement age for prelates, but the pontiff extended his term indefinitely.

Born in Manila on June 21, 1957, Tagle took his Philosophy and Theology at the Ateneo De Manila University’s San Jose Major Seminary.

He was ordained to the priesthood on February 27, 1982, at the age of 25.

From 1985 to 1992, he was sent for further studies at the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. where he earned his Doctorate in Sacred Theology.

Since 1997, Tagle is a member of the International Theological Commission of the Vatican. [where he met Cardinal Ratzinger.] In 1998, he was an expert at the Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for Asia that took place in Rome.

On December 12, 2001, he was ordained Bishop of Imus. Since then, his activities have been as numerous as in the past. He travels throughout the country in answer to many invitations as a speaker. [not as bishop of his diocese?]

At the Synod of Bishops held in Rome in 2005, he was elected member of the post-synodal Council and assistant to Cardinal Angelo Scola, general reporter of this Synod.

Tagle is currently the chairman of the Commission on Doctrine of the Faith of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).  [Which did not even come out with a statement against Miriam Santiago's self-deprecating statements about the Church's moral teachings against contraception.]

No date yet has been set for the installation of the new Manila archbishop. (CBCPNews) [Hopefully he does not accept.  Ha!]

I am literally rolling over the place where I am now when I received the very sad news, by lots of email and by lots text of Bishop Tagle getting appointed as the new archbishop of Manila.

It is unusual and unprecedented since in the past only sitting archbishops get appointed to the See of Manila.  Tagle is NOT an archbishop.

Second, Tagle is a liberal.  He is a very great politician when it comes to international theological settings.  His views about the Eucharist and the Mass are LUTHERAN. Ask his students at LST.

Third, he spends much of his time outside of his diocese, teaching, giving retreats, taping TV shows. He is the Bishop of the Diocese of Imus, most of the time in absentia.  I even heard stories of the faithful of the Cathedral get so irritated with how his dad runs the show in the Cathedral, they called him Father Cardinal.

Well, I guess Chupungco and his minions still have the political clout.  I can give you my day's salary as a bet that the wishes of Cardinal Rosales was acceded to by the Pope.

If there is one decision by the Holy Father I don't like, this is it.  Number one!  Guess the rumor mill in the Vatican is that the Holy Father wants to keep his loyal subjects close to him is TRUE.

But I submit in obedience.

Let us see what he'll do.  Tagle I mean.

On the wider appreciation of the environment, I think we should have a campaign for spirituality. And I think the best spirituality there is, is the ecofeminist spirituality. Seeing earth as a "mother," the way many tribal groups also consider the earth as "mother." So this ecofeminist spirituality should be developed.  [This is a friendlier, nay "safe" way of saying "Hey!  Let us do what the PAGANS are doing!  Worship Nature!]

Right now, I encounter women and environment in all my advocacies. I think we need to develop that eco-spirituality, and the women could be very helpful in this area. It does not have to be very esoteric. I think we need to go back to the rituals. [What now?] And we need to soil ourselves with the earth--get in touch with the earth, walk barefoot on the ground. [Uhm...unless you are farming which I do.]  We need more poetry to get in touch. We need words and metaphors to bridge us, to bridge the gap between our isolated selves. [*sniff*] We need to connect in a different way. We need to see the world in a grain of sand and see heaven in a wild flower. In other words, in all advocacies we are engaged in, I think we need to go into a contemplative mood. [No argument there.]  Part of the environmental movement should really be contemplative action. Without that, the mountain is just a resource. Without that, a tree is just measured according to cubic feet or cubic metres. Without that, it's easy to dig the bowels of the earth. Without that, you see people as not part of a landscape. Without the contemplative spirit, you don't see the blood that has been spilled over the land in the previous struggles. And without that, you cannot appreciate that the earth is worshipping God. [Uhm.]

This may look all too safe but it borders on the Wiccan spirituality which a lot of priests and nuns in Mindanao love to teach their students and retreatants.  And this Jesuit is no exception being a priest assigned in Davao.

Earthen jars used to burn incense, native woven, Wiccan "liturgical dance" you'll have it in your Mass later on.

I have received a lot of emails asking for my take on her dissident-laced, not thanks to MST, speech and lecturing our bishops and even the Pope of how wrong these men are about contraception, Vatican 2 and all that jazz...

Stay tuned folks, because hell hath no fury than a Pinoy Catholic scorned by a looney dissident who has not even earned her degree in theology yet....

But has the audacity to lecture the bishops and the Pope about morals, the Faith and theology.

On second thought, she is CRAZY.
