Ex seminarians alert
Why have I noticed a couple of parishes and dioceses "hiring" former seminarians who end up throwing their weight around as if the position of, whatever they claim it to be, as a birthright?
Take these two interesting cases in one single diocese alone!
Case 1: Ex seminarian, recently kicked out AGAIN of the seminary. Tries to go back to his "old" powerful post. So-called "caretaker" of his post refuses to vacate the position. Former seminarian now goes to another parish where he is now the "perpetual" masters of ceremonies and goes around wearing the clerical collar and even the clerical biretta! Yes, he was kicked out AGAIN of the seminary. And he is NOT a seminarian nor was he even a major seminarian.
Case 2: Ex seminarian, kicked out too for a sexual harassment case. Resurfaces at a parish dedicated to our Mother. Calls himself pastoral coordinator. Acts as Masters of Ceremonies at almost all major liturgical celebrations. Claims to be an alumnus of Loyola School of Theology but records don't show it. Uses his position to sell powdered juice that claims to have antioxidant properties. His Facebook account reveals his "likes" for not so manly FB groups and sites. And he too goes around wearing a clerical collar, or a cassock. And claims to be part of a "religious community". If you can call the Legion of Mary, or the Apostleship of Prayer or the El Shaddai Group a "religious community" then would that give him the right to go around dressing himself up like he is a priest?
This makes my blood boil and it's not good for me actually.
Why do the parish priests of these parishes don't even do their diligent work of checking the past of these people? Why are they even made Masters of Ceremonies of the parish that they look to claim as if it were a royal birthright?
Why do some parish priests give these men these positions of power and influence in the parish? Aren't other people not good enough for the job?
Why do they allow these people to go around dressed as if they are priests?
We have always blogged at TPC about the need for a visual representation of a non visible reality.
When priests were jailed by the Nazis at concentration camps, they were stripped of their religious habits or cassocks and made to wear prison jump suits. St. Maximilian Kolbe is represented in sacred iconography wearing his jumpsuit.
If you see St. Maximilian in prison and you did not know him personally as a priest, you would think that he is just one of the prisoners. There is nothing in what he is wearing that identifies him as a priest!
But these ex seminarians want to dress up as one even though they are not one. Are these people cos players? Do they wear these items reserved for people who are actually priests so that they can somehow enjoy whatever "benefits" those items bring?
These two ex seminarians must be reminded to dress properly according to their state of life. They are not priests so they should not be wearing clothing that is for priests.
As for their positions in the parishes, I'd still point the responsibility at the parish priests.
These ex seminarians are using the Church for their source of livelihood and whatever delusions they may have.
The next time I see these two, I'd talk to the parish priest and will tell them that I will withhold any donations I would want to give until their role in the parish is clearly defined.
Or else, you'd see them here.

CosPlayers ulit!
Deacon-KUNO.
MAY SAYAD mga ito!!!

Dear cosplayers, please imitate this saint
Pleeeeeeaaaaasssssseeee!!!
The practice of striving to put into practice in one's own life the virtues that the saints practiced in theirs. This is one of the reasons why the Church canonizes saints, to give the faithful secure patterns of holiness in every period of Christian history and on every level of human society.
Fr. John Hardon, SJ, Moden Catholic Dictionary
And for the biblical basis of imitating the saints, click here.
This is the WRONG way to imitate the saints.

WAIT, THERE'S MORE!
The horror never stops! We now have other pictures of the desecration of the items in the Archdiocesan Museum of Cebu.
Why is the Pastoral Staff a favorite CosPlay item? Because it is a symbol of power. And this is what these CosPlayers desire the most: the power, pomp, and majesty of the priesthood and the episcopacy.
Why will a boy, who is in his right mind, pose as the Blessed Virgin Mary? PLEASE ANSWER THIS.
Why will two grown-up men allow this bastardly show? PLEASE ANSWER THIS.

Fake Marine gets scolded by real marine
Now what is this video got to do with this blog?
Simple!
This guy was publicly reprimanded for wearing uniform/garment/medals etc. when he is not even a Marine!
Ergo, he is NOT WORTHY to wear this!
"But TPC! He is not like the young men you post on the blog who wear the clerical garb and post them. They get inspired to pursue a vocation to the priesthood!"
Ehm....why is it that those who love religious cosplaying are either former seminarians who can't come back, or those who wish to become seminarians but are not accepted, or uhm....Facifica Falayfay...
I hope I am wrong. But the more I see these kids wearing these religious garbs, like the chasuble, stole, miter, the more I come to realize that these kids are attracted to the external signs of the office and ministry but do not aspire to live the actual life, and perform the actual ministry of the religious life, priesthood and episcopate.
In the university, you cannot wear the academic regalia if you are not graduating.
In the military, you cannot wear the insignia of your rank if you are not holding that rank.
But these kids think this is just all play.
"But TPC, they are not blessed!"
Blessed or not, one who wears it represents the office and state of life that garment represents.
You are not a religious or cleric, don't wear clericals.
How hard is that to understand?

NO WHERE IS SAFE!
Even Church museums are not safe from the young, deluded Catholic CosPlayers. Nobody is safe. No where is safe.
Aside from the sanctity of these items, the historicity is also placed in danger. For what? Sa ngalan ng CosPlay.

FAKE PRIEST resurfaces
Nag misaMisahan nanaman si "Father" Mark Bunag sa Trece Martires.
He introduces himself as a priest from the Archdiocese of Manila. Bakit kaya? Kasi alam niya na HINDI SIYA PARI.
As early as 2011, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pasig already released a statement WARNING the faithful about this bogus priest.

BREAKING NEWS: New Filipino Cardinal!
First of all, pectoral crosses are worn INSIDE the chasuble. Secondly, he should've worn a chain, not a pectoral cross cord. Lastly, he denoted himself a cardinal by wearing red cords. LMAO. Oh, and right thumb crosses over the left.
Susme, walang kang galang sa Cardinal!

Vaclaan City, Jul 11, 2014 / 07:39 pm
It was announced earlier today that Pope has named a new Bishop to lead the newly cratered diocese of Scarborough Shoal which is disputed by many a country.
We tried reaching the new bishop for his comment but he has blocked us from sending him the traditional warning message.
CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES TO THE NEW BISHOP!

Off-site replies to our blog post 'Catholic' CosPlayers strikes again!
How do you make drug addicts? if you caught them using drugs and you say and do nothing against it. Worst is if you even give them the drugs!
Same thing with those living in the fantasy world.Ang paring hindi naka-damit pari eh NOT AVAILING OF THE PRIVILEGE OF THE OFFICE. Ang laiko na naka-damit pari eh AVAILING OF A PRIVILEGE WHICH IS NOT YOURS. Magkaibang-magkaiba yun!

'Catholic' CosPlayers strikes again!
Before you read this post make sure you aren't eating otherwise you could lose your appetite. Do not say I did not warn you!
Catholic CosPlayers strikes again, this time in a pilgrimage from Edsa Shrine to Antipolo Cathedral marking the 4 years of Fr. Mark Sese as a priest last May 1, 2014.
A comment on the photo made by Fr. Jojo Zerrudo is only one of the many questions that rise from this image:
- Is he really allowed to wear the ecclesiastical fascia?
- Is there a real need for the servers to be in cassock outside the Liturgy?
- Why do lay people who are not clerics walk around like clerics outside the Liturgy?
- Isn't this the clericalization of the lay?
Am sure Fr. Sese who is shown here, front row, third from left, was caught unaware and off guard when all of these men showed up in cassock, with one even wearing a fascia! A priest of his caliber would know!
To the men wearing cassock, and fascia, please spare Fr. Sese from further embarrassment. Please.
Catholic CosPlayer edition II
Rorate Caeli reported the revival of tunicled acolytes which is, quoting the article, (a) medieval liturgical practice from Spain.
Here we see 2 tunicled acolytes assisting a priest wearing a Spanish biretta.
Under a tunicle, an alb is to be used, not a cassock over a surplice.
As we said in a previous post: much is too much.

I will not serve!
As we approach the beginning and end of the week, Sunday, let me direct you to the wonderful 36-page Pastoral Letter of the Archbishop-Emeritus of Manila, Cardinal Gaudencio Rosales, D.D entitled Without Sunday We Cannot Live: A Pastoral Letter on the Sunday Celebration of the Eucharist issued in 2009.
Unfortunately, there is no online copy of that Pastoral Letter. It should be here, but the link is broken. We can find traces of it at the Arkham website, at the Monk's Hobbit and from this very blog.
In this Pastoral Letter, Cardinal Rosales decreed on page 17, #28 that:
We therefore wish to continue the practice of reserving this ministry (altar servers. sic) to young boys, in order to introduce them to the life and ministry of the Church.
Now, explain THIS.
Taken from a parish in the heart of Manila itself.
It's funny, but the female altar servers (sic) try so much to look like males with their bundled up hairs. So why get them in the first place?
Why disobey your bishop in the first, first place?

EXCOMMUNICATED!
Excommunication is a medicinal, spiritual penalty that deprives the guilty Christian of all participation in the common blessings of ecclesiastical society.
You can no longer see the scene above in recent times, but it gives the viewers a glimpse of the gravity of the this most serious censure the Catholic Church imposes on her erring children.
What are the effects of Excommunication?
- Exclusion from the reception of the Sacraments, or attendance in the Sacred ceremonies of the Church.
- Exclusion from the Public Suffrage of the Church
- Exclusion from a Catholic burial
Locally, the most recent, published excommunication was that of Xavier Eubra de Borja in 2010 for attempting the Liturgical action of the Eucharist though not promoted to the Sacerdotal order, attempting to impart sacramental absolution or hears sacramental confession, and usurpation of Ecclesiastical office. Canon 1378 and following.
Yes, there is a huge difference between attempting the Liturgical action of the Eucharist and sacramental absolution and Catholic CosPlayers, although the latter is in itself is already a matter which needs looking into.
What should our attitude be towards excommunicated persons?
Xavier Eubra de Borja, last seen in Tagaytay City
We PRAY for them.
