International Geology Review points to Friday 3rd of April, 33 A.D. as the more likely day of the death of Jesus. This is due to recent researches, focused on earthquake activity at the Dead Sea, located 13 miles from Jerusalem. The Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 27, mentions that an earthquake coincided with the crucifixion.  [Don't ask theologians at MST and SVST about this.  They'll question even the events written in the Gospel.  They'll call it embellishment, the literary freedom of the writer to make the simple death more fit for storybooks and Hollywood.  That is MODERNISM at work folks, and we call them REVEREND FATHERS.  They know better than the Evangelists because, you know why?  They have the degree and the Evangelists don't!  Matthew was a slimy tax collector, Mark who knows what was doing, he just showed up and wrote SOMETHING, John was lowly fishermen, and Luke was a physician BUT NEVER a theologian or a liturgist....Wah?!  Why did the liturgist thing got inserted here?  Well, force of habit.  Ha!]

To analyze earthquake activity in the region, geologist Jefferson Williams of Supersonic Geophysical and colleagues Markus Schwab and Achim Brauer of the German Research Center for Geosciences studied three cores from the beach of the Ein Gedi Spa adjacent to the Dead Sea.

Varves, which are annual layers of deposition in the sediments, reveal that at least two major earthquakes affected the core: a widespread earthquake in 31 B.C. and an early first century seismic event that happened sometime between 26 A.D. and 36 A.D.

The latter period occurred during “the years when Pontius Pilate was procurator of Judea and when the earthquake of the Gospel of Matthew is historically constrained,” Williams said.

According the researchers, their study proves that a local earthquake happened, strong enough to deform the varves in Ein Gedi, but not strong or wide enough to produce a wider historical memory.

A human embryo is a unique being, with a unique DNA pattern.  It is not just a blob of blood.  It is not even just a simple part of a woman's body.  It is a human being!

There are contraceptives that either expel the embryo from the woman's womb or it makes the womb such a hostile environment that the embryo cannot implant itself on the uterine wall, thus the embryo, the unborn human being, is expelled from the body.

So, what do you call that process when a human life in the womb is terminated?

ABORTION.

Pope Benedict to write Handwritten Bible...

MANILA, July 13, 2010—Pope Benedict XVI will be writing for the first handwritten Bible created by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines-Episcopal Commission on Biblical Apostolate (CBCP-ECBA) in collaboration with the Philippine Bible Society (PBS). [Nope.  I had that impression too.  The Pope will be asked to handwrite what is written in certain passages which will be mentioned below.]

The Holy Father will be writing verses of the first and last chapter of the Bible, that is Genesis 1.1 and Revelation 22.21.

The first handwritten Bible intends to create Bible responsiveness and to cultivate love for the Word of God among different sectors in the country. [Uhhmmm.  It's handwritten...Some would have a hard time reading someone else's handwriting...And...the Bible is already printed, right?]

Organizers said the creation of this Bible is a response to the12th Synod of Bishops and the forthcoming Apostolic Exhortation of Pope Benedict XVI.

The May They Be One handwritten Bible will be divided into two columns. The first column will be the English version while the second column will be in the vernacular. Eight native languages such as Tagalog, Ilocano, Pangasinan, Cebuano, Hiligayon, Samarenyo, Bicol and Pampango will be used in separate editions.

The 35,656 verses from the 78 books of the bible will be written by hand by representatives from various sectors such as the Church, urban/rural poor, OFWs, youth, farmers, government offices like Malacañang, Senate, and Congress; schools, indigenous people, and the fisher folks.

Meanwhile, Roman Catholic and Protestant Bishops will be tasked to author the passages of Genesis 1 and Revelation 22.

The English version of the handwritten passages will be based from the published Catholic editions of the Old and New Testaments while the different languages will be copied from the Popular Versions or the New Testament Books of the Philippine Bible Society.

I don't know what is meant by "creating Bible responsiveness".  And I am also not sure how a handwritten Bible will cultivate more love for the Word of God as compared to a printed one.

Hmmmm... Really skeptical on this one.
