Summorum Pontificum and Obedience to the Pope
Unfortunately, Cardinal Rosales signed the document that openly and brazenly defied the Pope on what the Holy Father wrote in the Motu Propio. He was quickly reprimanded by Cardinal Hoyos of the Ecclesia Dei Commission for this.
But the cardinal was not the one who wrote this actually. The signature "That in all things, God may be glorified." is a give away.
The link to the archdiocese's directive was immediately pulled down and what was left is that Q&A format with that obvious signature of that liturgist who hates anything that he cannot inculturate.
Remember that a cardinal wears red because he is ready to shed his blood for the Faith and that we wears a special ring as a sign of his obedience to the Holy Father.
What happens to those things now? Gone the drain because he does not like the Traditional Form?
Was it really the cardinal or a liturgist who just can't get over the fact?
My advise: Just obey who is sitting on Peter's chair and get it over with!

And seminarians required to learn the Traditional Form!

What, then, I pray tell, happens with all the liturgical research and competency in pastoral liturgy?
Don't get me wrong.
I attend and assist at the Novus Ordo Mass.
But I still prefer the Traditional Mass.

Japanese Bishop: 'We Must Take Courage'
“The Church in Japan will respond to the tragedy of the earthquake and tsunami that struck northern Japan with prayer and solidarity,” said Bishop Marcellinus Daiji Tani of Saitama, responding the March 11 disaster that has claimed over 10,000 victims. “We must take courage, with the help of the Holy Spirit.”
“This sad event reminds us that life is in the hands of God and that life is a gift from God,” he added. “It will be a challenge for all of us to practice and witness to the commandment of love and brotherly love, in this time of Lent.”
Caritas Japan has launched a fundraising campaign to assist earthquake survivors.
“I believe in Japan currently, marked by the economic crisis, struck by the social phenomenon of depression and suicide, this painful event may be an opportunity to spread the values of the Gospel, that is, the fraternity of all men and women, the building of common good, the recognition that every person has the dignity of a child of God and is important in the eyes of God,” [even the unborn!] said Father Daisuke Narui, Caritas Japan’s executive director. “If, with our work and our witness, we can communicate that, then from this evil will come good.”
0.4% of the nation’s 127.7 million people are Catholic, according to Vatican statistics. 84% are Shinto and Buddhist.

And that blogger loves inculturation and derides the Traditional Latin Mass calling the reform of the reform "a romantic retreat to the less intelligible old days".
But I digress...

Greetings of peace in the Lord Jesus Christ!
The fundamental love of Filipinos for family and life is under serious threat today. Being the last country standing against the vicious attacks of powers in connivance with law makers, we see the urgent need now to stop the attack by the proposed RH Bill on our valued culture of life. This orchestration instigated by those against life, local and foreign, has to be stopped. We shall all stand united against the assault on life and its values.
On March 25, the Feast of the Annunciation, also the Day of the Unborn Children, we invite all who value life, family and life values to join the Prayer Hour at the Quirino Grandstand (Luneta). We all believe that you will be one to deliver the message that our country will never allow the repressive RH Bill to be passed. The CBCP has made it clear in its Pastoral Letter that the RH Bill does not promote reproduction nor maternal health and destroys the family.
The Mass starts at 4:30 in the afternoon. We invite you to come and pray for unity of hearts in faith and love.

Drawing the Line
I have been hearing, seeing and reading a lot about the debates surrounding the move to legalize contraception and abortion masked as responsible parenthood in the country.
To tell you quite frankly, I am glad that these things are happening.
Glad not because the contraception is being pushed down our throats but because the hidden reality about Catholics who are in name only are coming out and shedding their pretenses. Priests, nuns and laity alike are now known as either "pro-choice" or "pro-life".
Things happen for a reason and that is why lines are drawn. Either you are black or white.
Some of my friends stopped talking to me. And most of these are classmates in theology class. Brilliant mids and excellent speakers...People, who most of all, are very dear to me, looked at me with disdain as if I was infected with a contagious disease that they stopped talking to me. Now, I know what it feels like to be disliked because of your faith!
And to my chagrin, I too was surprised that there are brother knights who are for "selective contraceptive". Yup, they have such a term. Even if Holy Mother Church mustered her Knights to defend life, there are actually those who do not believe the Gospel of Life.
Michael Voris, when he was here in Manila, said something to the effect of: The devil loves the color gray, because you will never know what his true colors are.
In our highly relative world, morality and even what to believe in became much like things you would buy in a diner or a cafeteria. Pick anything according to your taste. Even the laws of nature are being bastardized.
We have to stand firm and be well grounded in the Faith so as to boldly witness to the truth of the Gospel.
We may lose friends but we gain new ones who would not lead us astray.
I am thus consoled by the words of the first pope:
(1 Peter 1 : 6 - 7)

A Brief History of the Traditional Latin Mass Movement in the Philippines and the Ecclesia Dei Society of St. Joseph

For those who are not aware how the Traditional Latin Mass movement as sanctioned by the Archdiocese of Manila began, it was started by a group of young people in 1987 as organized by yours truly and as encouraged by Msgr. Moises Andrade. As we researched and prepared for our request, we found some groups attached to the Our Lady of the Roses Bayside apparition advocating the TLM. However, these groups for the wrong reasons requested the TLM and of course were turned down. When I personally requested the late Jaime Cardinal Sin, former Archbishop of Manila for the TLM, he told me that he loved the Latin Mass and Gregorian Chants and even plays tapes of them in his car. He told us that we can always have the Novus Ordo Mass celebrated solemnly in Latin with Gregorian Chants (and I presume ad orientem) anytime without any bishop's permission. However, he was reluctant to allow us the TLM since we might be used by other groups with different agenda and there might be no priest who knows how to celebrate the TLM.
Eventually, two priests supported us and celebrated for us privately the TLM, they were the late Fr. Manuel Piñon, O.P., and Msgr. Augusto Pedrosa who asked us to organize ourselves under the name Kilusang Misa Para sa Latin (Latin Mass Movement) from the former Latin Mass Society of the Philippines. Unfortunately, we were discovered by Church authorities and the two priests were sanctioned. [See how this looks like an illegal thing?] One member of the group went to Rome and sought celebrets for the priests thus a communiqué from Ecclesia Dei Commission under Card. Innocenti instructed (rather forced) [that is the right way to put it!] the Archdiocese of Manila to allow the TLM and form a local commission which was assigned to Msgr. Josefino Ramirez to oversee the TLM and that it be officially celebrated and regulated at Sto. Domingo Church in Q.C.. The commission encouraged not only Fr. Piñon to be celebrant of the TLM but also other priests willing to do so. Msgr. Ramirez officially appointed yours truly to be liaison to other priests willing to celebrate the TLM Mass since the SSPX already started to establish their center here. [Dennis was one of the FIRSTS in the TLM movement in the Philippines.]
We had a pool of priests alternately celebrating Sunday TLM Masses but eventually after four years it was stopped due to the protest of the Dominican Fathers and the presence of SSPX priests. The late Fr. Jose Maria Cavanna, CM, who was in his late 80's celebrated the TLM Mass for us in their chapel convent. Msgr. Ramirez allowed the TLM later to be transferred to a private chapel in Quiapo then as we changed our group’s name to Ecclesia Dei Society of St. Joseph, with Msgr. Thomas Chao and Fr. Pio Lomibao, OSB, as celebrants; then to his parish, the Basilica Minore of San Lorenzo Ruiz and finally to the Most Holy Redeemer Parish of Fr. Michell Joe Zerrudo who was given the Indult. When the Archdiocese of Manila was split into several Dioceses, Fr. Zerrudo became part of the new Diocese of Cubao and when transferred to his new Parish of Our Lord of Divine Mercy, it is now the present site of the official TLM Mass of the Diocese of Cubao. Fr. Zerrudo is not yet even 40years old and celebrates the TLM daily. Last September 2007, Msgr. Moises Andrade, invoking Pope Benedict XVI's Summorum Pontificum, started in his parish his Sunday TLM Mass where I also serve as organist and cantor. Fr. Joseph Skelton, an African-American priest incardinated in the Diocese of Tagbilaran, Bohol, celebrates his daily TLM there and here in Manila whenever he visits. Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam!

The group is based at the Parish of the Lord of Divine Mercy at Sikatuna in Quezon City where the Indult Traditional Latin Mass is celebrated everday at 8:30AM and Sundays at 2:00PM together with other special feastdays. The parish priest, Fr. Jojo Zerrudo, together with the Ecclesia Dei Society of St. Joseph, has been granted the indult to have the Traditional Masses celebrated on Sundays and special days, as announced during the Last Sunday Mass of the Liturgical Year (November 21, 2004). At present the Society is under the guiding principles of Pope Benedict XVI's Motu Proprio, Summorum Pontificum. The Bishop of Cubao will erect a Tridentine Personal Parish when property for the church building is acquired thus fund-raising activities are ongoing. EDDSJ has recently been affiliated with UNA VOCE Federation and is now known as EDDSJ-UNA VOCE PHILIPPINES.

Patron of the Pro-Life Movement
John-Paul Deddens of PrayMoreNovenas.com sent me an email requesting my dear TPC readers to pray the Novena to St. Joseph, foster father of Our Lord Jesus Christ and Patron of the Universal Church, starting today, March 11 ending on the saint's feast on March 19.
This is a timely request as St. Joseph obediently took our Blessed Mother for his wife after the angel instructed him to do so in a dream. So to speak, he is the PATRON OF THE PRO-LIFE MOVEMENT as he protected the unborn Jesus from his fellow Jews who might subject the Virgin Mary to the severe penalty of death if She is discovered to be pregnant before they were married.

With the blessings from our President Eric M., I would like to invite volunteers to join the Marketing Committee and to come to our 1st meeting on March 16, Wed AM, with venue tbc depending on the number of volunteers.
Without preempting the Strategic Planning Session of Pro-Life, I wish to share with you a draft of our Vision-Mission-Values, subject to validation and approval by the Board and ExCom.
The Vision of the Committee is "Victory for Brand Pro-Life".
The Mission of the Committee is the "360 degree Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) Campaign for Brand Pro-Life".
The Values of the Committee are simply the "Laws of God".
We will undertake a comprehensive evaluation of our performance todate, starting with an in-depth survey of our target consumers (quantitative and qualitative); conduct our SWOT; formulate our Objectives-Goals-Strategies-Measures; develop our Marketing Programs and Actions; lay out our Calendar of Activities; and estimate our budgetary requirements (to guide our fund-raising objectives); then execute with world-class excellence -- in terms of quality of the marketing, speed of execution and cost efficiency.
We will need people with the experience and expertise in the following functional areas of marketing:
1) Market Research (Qualitative and Quantitative)
2) Brand Management
3) Advertising (Creative and Production)

It depends on what country you came from but I have two suggestions for you.
First, if you are here in the Philippines, you can go and contact the Miraculous Medal Apostolate which is located at the San Vicente de Paul Parish in Adamson University in San Marcelino St., Manila.
You can find all the info you need, including types of membership and contact details by visiting their Facebook page.
The other one is based in Perrville, Missouri, USA. You can find all the details you need in their website. They even have a gift shop where you can find beautiful medals.

Black wrist bands for Lent
I think this is a great idea! pro-lifers can also wear this as a symbol of protest against the culture of Death that supposed Responsible Parenthood advocates are fighting for in Congress.

DENVER, Colorado, MARCH 8, 2011 (Zenit.org).- The Archdiocese of Denver is distributing over 100,000 black wristbands this Lent as a way to help parishoners remember to stick to their Lenten promises.
The archdiocese reported in a press release that the wristbands are part of a program titled "Sacrificium" (sacrifice), which is also imprinted on the black bands.
The wristbands, the archdiocese stated, will remind those wearing them "not only of what Jesus did for them when he suffered and died on the cross, but what they have promised to do - or not do - during the solemn season of Lent."
"The color black recalls the color of ashes, which Catholics receive on their foreheads on Ash Wednesday and reminds them of their mortality," the statement added. [That is why black is the color used during funeral and Masses for the dead and Good Friday. And I am still scratching my head why the liturgical revolution of Bugnini took all of these out.]
Ash Wednesday, observed on March 9 this year, marks the beginning of Lent. Catholics observe the 40 days of Lent through additional prayer, fasting, and works of charity.
"In addition to wearing their black wristbands, Sacrificium participants are also invited to complete a promise card, which details their specific sacrifices to be made throughout the 40-day period," the archdiocese reported. [Prayer and fasting against the Lagman Culture of Death Bill]
