MANILA, Sept. 15, 2009— The Archdiocese of Manila is hosting this year’s 13th Asian Liturgy Forum South-East Asian Region which opens on Sept. 17 at the San Carlos Formation Complex in Makati City.

With the theme “Liturgical Year and Inculturation”, [You get a sense whose behind this.] the meeting will be held until Sept. 20.

The delegates will have vespers with Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales on Sept. 16 at the Bahay Pari chapel, after which he welcomes them at dinner.

On Sept. 17, Fr. Anscar Chupungco, OSB, [See that?  I thought I sensed something bad.  By the way, he teaches liturgy at the Maryhill School of Theology, a bedrock of liberation theology and once according to my sources, not from me OK,  "watched closely" by the CBCP and even the Vatican for 'Richard Mcbrien type of theology'.  Now that says something, doesn't it?] ALF Executive Director and Director of the Paul VI Institute of Liturgy in Malaybalay, Bukidnon, will give the opening conference on the theme. This will be followed by reports from various country representatives.

Some 50 delegates from Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam are attending. There will also be observers from Australia and Taiwan.

The ALF is expected to release a statement on the theme which it hopes will be of help to the National Commissions of the countries in the South-East Asian Region.

Here's my take on this event.

Will they be discussing Summorum Pontificum?  I hope so but I guess they will not.

Will they de discussing the Reform of the Reform? I hope so but I guess they will not.

Will they be discussing the liturgical adulteration err.. I mean...inculturation type of Mass of Anscar Chupungco? A do it yourself liturgy to hell with what Rome says? More "empowerment" of the laity? More pronounced role of women? Eco-spirituality? Communion in the Hand? Asian type of Liturgical dance?

I hope not but I guess they will.

Please say a prayer

I was driving home last night from work.  I was in the middle of the road when I was surpised to see in my right side a man flying through the air, maybe 10 feet into the air.  Literally flying like a rag doll.  He landed on the concrete just a mere 15 feet from my car!  I think he was trying to cross the street when the vehicle that struck him appeared out of nowhere!  The impact was so strong that the hood of the vehicle looked like it hit an electric post!  How could a human body withstand such impact!

The irony of it all, the car that struck him was a...police car driven by a policeman.  The policeman got off his car, approached the victim, looked at him, then casually went back to his car.  The people who witnessed the accident had the sense to surround the police car to prevent him from escaping.  Some of the people prevented others from touching the victim, while others simply could not stand it and touched the victim.

I had to bear the sight of the man as he tried to move but he just slumped and......died right in front of me.  Don't ask me for the details.  I can be very graphic when it comes to descriptions and story telling.
I was shocked at everything that I witnessed that I was not able to drive my car for 5 minutes.  I just froze.

The important thing that we have to do is...

Pray that none of us will have to undergo such tragedy...

Please pray for the man's soul.  May he rest in the peace of the Lord.

Pray for his family.  Pray for the family of the deceased.

Pray for me, too.  I had a hard time sleeping last night.  I wake up almost every hour.

INC minister debates Catholic apologist

This is an excerpt from revered Catholic Apologist Karl Keating's Article "Into the Maw of the Cult"
He was debating Jose Ventilacion, an INC minister.  I saw on TV how this man explains his faith.  My impression?  It was like having Mr. Bean teach you Logic.  More than brain freeze!

Their argument is facile: "What is the name of Christ’s church, as given in the Bible? It is the 'Church of Christ.' Our church is called the 'Church of Christ.' Therefore, ours is the church Christ founded."

Not many people will be impressed with such an argument--when it was first presented to me during a question and answer period some years ago, I had trouble not laughing aloud--but the folks at the debate thought it made a lot of sense. The problem was that the verse Ventilacion was citing didn't contain the phrase "Church of Christ." I read to him the Greek and said, "It means 'Church of God,' not 'Church of Christ.'"

"That’s your opinion," he said.

"No, it’s not. That's what the Greek says."

"That’s your opinion."

"If you want to know what a verse really means, you need to look at the Greek, because the text of the New Testament is in Greek."

"That’s your opinion," he repeated, smiling broadly.

"No, it’s not my opinion. It’s a fact."

"That’s your opinion."

Of all the debates I've been in, this was at once the most frightening and the most frustrating. It was the most frightening because Iglesia ni Cristo is a true cult, not a mere sect, and it was easy to see why bodyguards were de rigueur, even if their muscle wasn't needed this night. And the debate was the most frustrating because my opponent wouldn't adhere to elementary norms of civility and because the audience, at least the Iglesia portion of it, seemed impervious to even the simplest argument against its position.

Iglesia ni Cristo is a menace. Today it's a menace mainly to Filipino families, but many of the ushers, I noticed, were not Filipino. Non-Filipino members were being "showcased" as ushers, proof that Iglesia no longer confines itself to one ethnic group.

This is an organization that is adapting itself to the American idiom. The American edition of God's Message used to be printed in a dual-language format: half Tagalog, half English. Now all the text is in English, the better to appeal to Americans of various backgrounds.

Iglesia ni Cristo makes Fundamentalists, Mormons, and Jehovah's Witnesses look like slackers when it comes to commitment and anti-Catholicism. We can expect this cult to grow rapidly--mainly at the expense of our Church. And it will, unless we take a stand.

I had this debate with an Iglesia before too.   Two things happened to me right after that debate.  One, I had a severe migraine for trying to figure out the logic of his argument like "Our church's name is in the Bible.  Yours is not.  Therefore, we are the true church."    Second,  I dug deeper to know what the Iglesia is.

What I got?  A smorgasboard of anti-Catholic rage!  The only logic they have is this:

YOU'RE WRONG THEREFORE I AM RIGHT.  NO NEED TO PROVE THAT I AM RIGHT BECAUSE YOU ARE WRONG!

Oh, yeah before I forget.  I asked my Iglesia friend why they devote much of their energies against the Catholic Church and not by converting Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus... "You're church is easier."

Guess that is what it is.  Most Catholics do not really know what they believe so we become easy targets.  And second,  Iglesia is a filthy parasite breeding and grazing in Catholic grounds.  Their doctrine cannot stand ground against other religions.  They make a living out of Catholics.

Bishops lead Marian pilgrimage to Carmel

MANILA, Sept. 13, 2009— Senior Catholic bishops led hundreds of devotees in Lipa City yesterday for the pilgrimage on the 6th National Day of Prayer and Sanctification of the Clergy.

Archbishops Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales of Manila, [who was Archbishop of Lipa before being appointed to the See of Manila.  I heard that he has a special devotion to the Mediatrix of all Graces.] Ricardo Cardinal Vidal of Cebu [a holy man!] and Angel Lagdameo of Jaro joined Lipa Archbishop Ramon Arguelles in officiating the Mass held at the Carmel Monastery.

During the Mass, Cardinal Vidal presided the crowning of the image of the Our Lady of Mediatrix of All Grace. [The title under which our Lady revealed herself to the young Carmelite Postulant, the visionary, Sr. Teresing Castillo.]

The pilgrimage to Lipa is set on Sept. 12 not only because it is the feast of the Holy Name of Mary but also because it was on the said day in 1948, when the Blessed Mother reportedly appeared in the said place for the first time to Sr. Teresing Castillo, a Carmelite postulant.

Sr. Teresing also said that on Sept. 16, 1948, the Blessed Mother told her that a statue be placed where she appeared. On Sept. 26, she declared that she was "Mary Mediatrix of All Grace."

After the Mass, Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos-Recto led the recitation of the Prayer for Consecration to Jesus through Mary.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo also led the consecration of the country to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary while Archbishop Lagdameo recited the prayer for the sanctification of priests.

The pilgrimage also became more meaningful as it also marked the first day of the four-day First Asia Ocenia Mariological Conference with noted Marian theologians Dr. Mark Miravalle, STD, and Msgr. Dr. Arthur Calkins, STD, giving their lectures on the proposed 5th Marian dogma. [the dogma of Mary, Co-Redemptrix, Mediatrix and Advocate of All Graces! The speakers are at the forefront of the popular world-wide clamor to have Mary declared as “Co-Redemptrix, Mediatrix of All Grace and Adv0cate, to be added to the four existing Marian dogmas, “Mother of God” in 431, “Virginity of the Blessed Virgin Mary” in 649, “Immaculate Conception” in 1854 and the “Assumption of Mary” in 1950.

This year’s theme is “Pueble Amante de Maria, Mediatrix of all Grace, Called to Proclaim the Good News to Fellow Asians.” (CBCPNews)

This is indeed very welcoming news.  The truth cannot be denied that God the Father willed that the Greatest Grace that He could ever give to the world, our Lord Jesus Christ, passed through the Virgin Mary!

Below is an excerpt from the article entitled "Inculturation of Worship: Forty Years of Progress and Tradition" by Anscar J. Chupungco, OSB, the master of the liturgical inculturation in the Philippines.

After Pope John XXIII announced the Vatican Council II, a preparatory commission on the liturgy was established on June 6, 1960. The composition of the preparatory commission was indicative of the type of reform that the Liturgy Constitution would eventually espouse. Most of the members and consultors were scholars who knew their liturgical history. [Except those in the Concilium who fabricated a New Mass!] They admired the noble simplicity and sobriety of the original Roman liturgy before it had merged in the eighth century with Franco-Germanic rites. [As if everything that came after the ‘original’ Roman liturgy is rubbish. As if the Mass celebrated for hundreds of years by popes and saints is outdated, needs to be replaced since it is full of rubbish inculturation! Oh yeah!  That is YOUR BRAND!]

Ironically, the inculturation of the Roman liturgy by the Franco-Germanic churches induced the disappearance of its classical shape. It took twelve centuries for the Roman Catholic Church to recover the noble simplicity of its worship.  It would not have taken this long, had Rome heeded in the sixteenth century Martin Luther’s call for liturgical reform. [ See where this is heading? This is what liturgists like Fr. Chupungco would want you to believe in. That the Mass of the Ages that our ancestors used to worship God is corrupted by the inculturation of Franco-Germanic churches, the same tactic of inculturation you so viciously promote? Do you even consider yourself a Catholic for siding with the heretical views of Martin Luther, who was condemned by the Church? Anathema sit!]

...Firmly rooted in the premises of the liturgical movement, the Liturgy Constitution sets forth active participation as the principle and criterion of the conciliar reform of the liturgy. Art. 14 states, "In the reform and promotion of the liturgy, this full and active participation by all the people is the aim to be considered before all else". The theology on which the Constitution bases itself is the doctrine on what would later be called "common priesthood" by the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, Lumen Gentium. According to the Liturgy Constitution, active participation is "called for by the very nature of the liturgy" and that such participation by the Christian people "is their right and duty by reason of their baptism" (art. 14). [not the same priesthood as the ordained one! The CCC is clear about this! Unless you purposely ] I am certain that Martin Luther would have smiled in triumph should he read those lines. [Smiling…where is he if I might ask?   We all know where and you even have the audacity to admire the heretic!] Let me note that the ultimate aim of liturgical inculturation is to foster active participation in consonance with the cultural patterns or traits of the local community. [The Church’s aim or your aim? Clearly it’s your own agenda Father and not the Church’s. FYI, YOU ARE NOT THE CHURCH!]

The Holy Father appointed Bishop Socrates B. Villegas of Balanga, Philippines, as archbishop of Lingayen-Dagupan (area 1,565, population 1,313,000, Catholics 1,084,000, priests 76, religious 57), Philippines. The archbishop-elect was born in Manila, Philippines in 1960, he was ordained a priest in 1985 and consecrated a bishop in 2001. He succeeds Archbishop Oscar V. Cruz, whose resignation from the pastoral care of the same archdiocese the Holy Father accepted, upon having reached the age limit.

WHY?

Can someone PLEEEASSEEE tell me why a flag of the Philippines was draped on the coffin of Mr. Erano Manalo and why was he accorded a 21 gun salute during his funeral? Was he a former government official? Did he do something significant for the country, Iglesia or not Iglesia?

The only reason I could think of was because politicians “owe a lot” from him. Right Mr. Ferdinand Marcos and Mrs. Gloria Arroyo?

WORDS OF WISDOM: "Who can she possibly be?"

In answer to her prayers to remain hidden, poor and lowly, God was pleased to conceal her from nearly every other human creature in her conception, her birth, her life, her mysteries, her resurrection and assumption. Her own parents did not really know her; and the angels would often ask one another, "Who can she possibly be?", for God had hidden her from them, or if he did reveal anything to them, it was nothing compared with what he withheld.

God the Father willed that she should perform no miracle during her life, at least no public one, although he had given her the power to do so. God the Son willed that she should speak very little although he had imparted his wisdom to her. Even though Mary was his faithful spouse, God the Holy Spirit willed that his apostles and evangelists should say very little about her and then only as much as was necessary to make Jesus known.
