The priesthood and my take on the John Corapi scandal.
I have read the sad news about famous televangelist Fr. John Corapi in the past weeks. And even got emails about my take on his leaving.
Now here is the shocking news about the real reason why this all happened.

WASHINGTON (CNS) -- Father John A. Corapi was involved in "years of cohabitation" with a former prostitute, repeated abuse of alcohol and drugs and "serious violation" of his promise of poverty, according to a fact-finding team appointed by his religious order. [And you think Marcial Maciel is not enough.]
Father Corapi, who recently announced he would leave the priesthood because he could not get a "fair hearing" on misconduct allegations against him, has been ordered by the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity to return to live at the order's regional headquarters in Robstown, Texas, and to dismiss a lawsuit against the woman whose accusations prompted the investigation. [The conditions are pretty simple right, but made me wonder the first time I read this why he find it so hard to comply. That sounded off alarm bells for me.]
"Catholics should understand that (the order) does not consider Father John Corapi as fit for ministry," said a July 5 news release from Father Gerard Sheehan, regional priest servant for the order, commonly known as SOLT.
Although Father Corapi's ministry "has inspired thousands of faithful Catholics," the news release said, he is "now misleading these individuals through his false statements and characterizations."
"It is for these Catholics that SOLT, by means of this announcement, seeks to set the record straight," it added.
There was no immediate response to the announcement from Father Corapi.
The order said its three-member fact-finding team had gathered information "from Father Corapi's emails, various witnesses and public sources" and had concluded that the priest: [the emails, in my point of view, are hard evidence.]
-- "Did have sexual relations and years of cohabitation (in California and Montana) with a woman known to him, when the relationship began, as a prostitute."
-- "Repeatedly abused alcohol and drugs."
-- "Has recently engaged in sexting activity with one or more women in Montana."
-- "Holds legal title to over $1 million in real estate, numerous luxury vehicles, motorcycles, an ATV, a boat dock and several motor boats, which is a serious violation of his promise of poverty as a perpetually professed member of this society." [Oh good Lord.]
Although he did not name them, Father Sheehan said the fact-finding team was made up of a priest specializing in canon law, a psychiatrist and a lawyer, each of whom has a national reputation and "substantial experience in ecclesiastical processes related to priest disciplinary issues."
Two of the three were members of religious orders, and the third was a layperson. Two were men and one was a woman, he said.
As the team was carrying out its work, Father Corapi filed a civil suit against his principal accuser and then offered $100,000 for her silence, [hmmm...seems like a pattern in handling sex abuse allegations, right Cardinal Roger?] the news release said. Other key witnesses who "may have negotiated contracts ... that precluded them from speaking" with the team declined to answer its questions or provide documents, it said.
When the fact-finding team asked Father Corapi to dismiss the lawsuit and release individuals from their contractual obligations to remain silent, "he refused to do so and, through his canonical advocate, stated, 'It is not possible for Father Corapi to answer the commission's questions at this time,'" the news release added.
Father Corapi, 64, announced June 17 -- two days before the 20th anniversary of his priestly ordination -- in a YouTube video and blog posting that he would leave the priesthood.
"For 20 years I did my best to guard and feed the sheep," [now we wonder what sheep he is talking about here.] he said in the blog posting. "Now, based on a totally unsubstantiated, undocumented allegation from a demonstrably troubled person I was thrown out like yesterday's garbage. I accept that. Perhaps I deserve that." [now there is substance and evidence.]
Father Corapi had been highly visible for several years as a speaker and preacher, including a program on the Eternal Word Television Network. EWTN took his show off its schedule shortly after his suspension, saying it would not knowingly put on the air a priest whose faculties had been suspended.
The SOLT news release said Father Sheehan would not be available for further comment because of the order's general chapter July 5-23.

Fr. Dwight Longenecker of Standing on my Head gave a very nice analysis of this sham.
I have long told my friends in the Order [of the Knights of Columbus] to always pray for priests, old or young, they need our prayers. I KNOW FIRST HAND what goes on in the life of a priest and the struggles he had to go through.
And I remind them that it is only Grace that makes a man a priest. Human politics and psychology may play a part in a man getting the nod of his superiors for him to receive Holy Orders but it does not diminish the fact that a man gets the indelible mark of the Sacrament of Holy Orders once he gets it, whether he leaves graciously or not, or stays until his dying breath, the mark on his soul as a priest remains forever. So our Faith teaches us.
But we have to remember that they are much vulnerable to the attacks of the devil, masked as carnal desires, money, fame. Because the devil knows that he cannot stand a simple man becoming alter Christus at the altar, offering the same sacrifice that Christ offered on Calvary. By his hands, he forgives sins, by his words the hopeless are comforted. In all, through the priest, men are led back to God.
And that is something the devil does not want.
The scandal that Fr. John Corapi made as confirmed by his own religious order is truly regrettable. But don't fret. The Church is made up of sinners and saints, men and women who are still living, and men and women who are now in Heaven and in Purgatory. The Church has been here for thousands of years and She has encountered all kinds of scandals you can ever imagine seeing on Carlos Celdran's Book of Religious Scandals. [Can't help it. I just had to put that in. :) I think he'll make a killing out of this just like his worthless walking tour, full of lies and anti-Catholic bigotry]
The Church is founded by God Himself, Jesus Christ who is also fully and truly human. And He certainly knows what he is doing. He knows that the enemies would use the scandals against His Church to undermine the Church's moral ascendancy.
What could be more scandalous than one of the first apostles was the one who betrayed Him and sent Him to His horrible and humiliating death of a criminal?
And his first Vicar ran like a dog with its tail between its hind legs in fear, denying that he did not even know Him, even after that guy boldly declared in front of all the other apostles that he will die rather than deny Him!
The Church is a Holy Institution where both sinners and saints are found. And its primary mission is to save the likes of Fr. John Corapi.
Pray for our priests!

AN official of the Catholic Diocese of Parañaque has warned the public against a fake priest who is duping people by soliciting funds.
The diocese identified the impostor as Joseph Sorongon, who introduces himself as Jose Estacio Juntoria and Fr. Vincent Mary, O. Carm.
The warning was issued recently based on a circular to the diocese’s priests, rectors, chaplains and the faithful by their vice chancellor, Msgr. Benedicto Aquino.
“Please be informed that Mr. Joseph Sorongon is a fraud and imposter and that he has been victimizing unsuspecting parishioners staying in their homes,” Aquino said.
The church official said Sorongon has already been complained about last year.
The diocese made the warning again after a Parañaque resident has complained to the Chancery that the said person has defrauded them of a large amount of money.
Aquino also called on the faithful to ask for a “celebret” or certificate of ordination to determine whether the priest they are dealing with is fake or not.
A “celebret” is a testimonial given to a priest when traveling that he is in good standing, with the accompanying request that he be permitted to say Mass.

GULP Alert: Surplices
Mocha Surplices anyone?
Hot or cold? :)
I thought my eyes fooled me. At first I thought the cardinal had a bunch of deacons assisting him and were wearing mocha colored dalmatics.
Note to these men and whoever made these surplices.
Surplices are always WHITE!
Ask the Catholic Encyclopedia and Wikipedia. It's not that hard.
Laced, embroidered, pleated...
But it is ALWAYS WHITE.
Not colored.
It was never colored in the liturgical history of the Church. Even other denominations like the Anglicans DO NOT use a colored surplice.
The surplice is a miniature alb, which is always white because the alb and the surplice symbolizes the white garment given at our Baptism.
Remember the prayer when the white garment is given by the baptizing minister?
In the OF it is:
Common thing? RECEIVE, WHITE GARMENT, CARRY WITHOUT STAIN UNTIL THE END.
Now, do these servers know about the reason why a surplice is white? I thought RCAM has the best liturgists in the world? World-renowned, right? Dean of Filipino liturg....ok you get the drift.
This, my friends, is a liturgical innovation that must stop because it undermines the meaning of the White Garment of Baptism. And in some respects, implicitly undermine the power of the Sacrament itself.
It may be out of ignorance or they just wanted something "new and innovative". No matter the intention, it is not right.
Know first what you have in the Liturgy before you even think of injecting some of your creativities.
And I REALLY thought we have world-renowned liturgists in Manila!

Majority of American Catholics favor same-sex "marriage"

Nearly three-quarters of Catholics favor either allowing gay and lesbian people to marry (43%) or allowing them to form civil unions (31%). Only 22% of Catholics say there should be no legal recognition of a gay couple's relationship.
Nearly three-quarters (73%) of Catholics favor laws that would protect gay and lesbian people against discrimination in the workplace; 63% of Catholics favor allowing gay and lesbian people to serve openly in the military; and 6-in-10 (60%) Catholics favor allowing gay and lesbian couples to adopt children.
Less than 4-in-10 Catholics give their own church top marks (a grade of an A or a B) on its handing of the issue of homosexuality; majorities of members of most other religious groups give their churches high marks.
A majority of Catholics (56%) believe that sexual relations between two adults of the same gender is not a sin.

Meet the world's oldest cloistered nun...and her secret.
Here is the transcription:
July 2, 2011. (Romereports.com) This nun holds the world record for the longest time living in cloistered life. Her name is Sister Teresita, she's 103 years old and has lived 84 of them in the convent of Buenafuente de Sistal, in Guadalajara, Spain. At 19 she entered the convent of the Cistercian order in 1927, the same day that Benedict XVI was born.

“I arrived a bit ignorant because I didn't know much about nuns. I was a normal village girl, I use to go to Mass each week, and pray the rosary in May, but I knew nothing about nuns. I came because the Lord called me. I heard His call and I came to respond to His calling, coming here without knowing where it came from or where it was taking me.”
For this time period in Spain, she was a little late into entering the monastery because she says she didn’t like the nuns. As the eldest of seven siblings, it was her father that one day suggested she go to the convent.

“My father said 'The nuns are very good'. I didn't know what this had in store for me. I was thinking that the nuns didn't do any work. And one day my mother scolded me and my father said, 'why don't you stop being a nuisance and join the nuns'? And I said with all my heart: 'Lord, help me to please my father, give me a religious vocation.'”
Sister Teresita was named Valeria. She dedicates her life to prayer for others and her work within the convent. She leads a life without envy and she says that this way of life has made her very happy, calling her work a gift from God.

“Happy? How could I not be happy? If I were not happy, I wouldn't be here. Could someone be here for 84 years without being happy? It's not possible! It never occurred to me to come here without a calling.”
This contemplative veteran of the monastery says her most important treasure of over 100 years of life is prayer, which she says brings strength to everyone.

“Prayer is the most important thing because without prayer you can't go on. The first thing I say is 'I want to see with your eyes, speak with your mouth, hear with your ears, to love with your heart. It's not me who lives but it's you who lives in me. Despite this prayer, I would get distracted and I would go back to it again'. I always have to say: 'Lord thank you, forgive me, thank you and forgive me'. That's my prayer.” [And that my folks is why they are religious, set apart to pray for us.]
She has become an expert in cooking Spanish omelets, making them every day while reading the newspaper. She says she still has many things left to do. One of which is a meeting with Pope Benedict XVI during the meeting of young nuns [ :) ] in El Escorial during the World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid.

The religious, especially those who work in the missions MUST HAVE a very deep prayer life because the fruit of their prayer life is shown in their missionary work.
We must draw strength from SOMEONE. That PERSON must be the source and inspiration for our works.
And that person is JESUS CHRIST.
Now, that's how you'll see priests, nuns, brothers and even the laity who work tirelessly to spread the PREACH THE GOSPEL AND SAVE SOULS IN UNITY WITH PETER.
If any of those things are missing, if you do not have a deep prayer life, IT WILL SHOW.
RADICAL FEMINISM, NATURE SPIRITUALITY, DISSIDENT FAD THEOLOGY... all draw inspiration and strength from crooked ideologies, hatred of the past, abusive parents, etc.
Prayerful people show and emanate the fruit of their prayers, and it is TRUE, oh yeah, it is TRUE.
As Blessed Teresa of Kalkutta said:
"The fruit of silence is prayer; the fruit of prayer is faith; the fruit of faith is love; the fruit of love is service; the fruit of service is peace."

The distinctly Roman Catholic offering is the outward sign of an inner spiritual journey. St. Luke's Church in Bladensburg, Md., will become later this year the first American Episcopal Parish to convert to Catholicism, Anglicanism's one-time nemesis. [And Bingo was his name-o!]
"What really drew us was the apostolic authority, the oneness of the faith of the people," Lewis said "That's what we really wanted, and I don't think you have that in Anglicanism."
Ironically, what is driving St. Luke's to Roman Catholicism is what split the church in the first place: the issue of authority. [The very same issue that theologians in MST, SVST and Euntes are raising yet the Episcopalians are being drawn to. Ironic, eh, Dr. Jose de Mesa?]
Nearly 500 years ago, Britain’s King Henry VIII broke with Rome in a dispute involving his wish to divorce his wife, Catherine of Aragon, and marry his young mistress, Anne Boleyn. [It was not an issue of authority. It was an issue of Henry wanting to produce an heir. This is not a doctrinal or moral matter. Marriage is the issue. Henry wanted divorce which is against what Christ said.]
A showdown forced England's clergy to choose sides, with the king demanding to know if the British bishops and Cardinals were more loyal to him or to the Pope. [Which is the same issue that the Communist Party in China are using against bishops and priests loyal to Rome.]
Lives and heads were literally lost in the ensuing theological and political clash. [Like Sts Thomas More and John Fisher, which ironically, the Church of England honors.] In its wake, The Church of England was born, with the sitting monarch as its head, a structure still in place today.
The American version, the Episcopal church, was the faith of many of the founding fathers, including President George Washington. [a high ranking Mason.]
Today, the Episcopal Church, with nearly 1.5 million members, is one of thousands of Christian denominations in the U.S. Its recent conflicts over the ordination of gays and women and the blessing of same-sex unions have caused some congregations to seek more conservative branches. [Issues which liberals in Europe, in America and in some quarters here in the Philippines wanted.]
But that was not an option for St. Luke's. Lewis says he felt that the same problem would persist. There was no authority concerning who would have the final interpretation of scripture over the most controversial issues the church is facing. [No final authority. Issues which these dissident theologians in MST, SVST and Euntes raise. They challenge the authority of the Pope so those who listen to them, well, will only follow their teaching. They hate the authority of the Church so they can be the AUTHORITY.]
"Anglicanism is Anglicanism," Lewis said. "So it doesn't matter if you go to a more conservative group like the Anglican Church in North America or any of the others that are around. It's still the faith of this body here. (It) doesn’t necessarily mean it's the same in Nigeria or Sierra Leone or any other outlet."
In 2009, Pope Benedict XVI created a special Ordinariate, a path through which Anglicans could reconcile with Rome and come back to the Roman Catholic flock. In some circles it's been called the religious equivalent of sheep stealing. [Did he grab them? The lost sheep went back to the fold, instead.]
The Rev. Scott Hurd, who's assisting Washington's Cardinal Donald Wuerl to create the new Anglican Ordinariate, disagrees with the implication, saying, "This initiative is a response to repeated and insistent requests from Anglican groups. So it's not a matter of stealing sheep. It's more a matter of opening the door for people who have been seeking to come in for some time." [Like what I stated.]
In the last few years, bitter legal battles over property have erupted in the American Episcopal church when conservative congregations sought to leave and be led by more orthodox Anglicans groups. But St. Luke's transition was essentially given a blessing by the Washington Diocese's Bishop John Bryson Chane.
"Christians move from one church to another with far greater frequency than in the past, sometimes as individuals, sometimes as groups," Chane said in a written statement. "I was glad to be able to meet the spiritual needs of the people and priest of St. Luke's in a way that respects the tradition and polity of both of our churches."
Under the terms of the agreement, St. Luke's congregation will have three years to either buy its current building or move elsewhere.
That especially pleases its 100 members, who are mostly West African immigrants like Gloria Deigh, from Sierra Leone.
Deigh is happy to convert, saying, "I like it. To me, it's like going home. That's where the original church was. We are all one."
Parishioner Randy King says for him the conversion brings needed certainty.
"We have a church that doesn't change. [Oh my. MST, SVST and Euntes would call this "being stuck in the past." "too medieval"...] We don't have to worry one day or the other what is going to be said from the pulpit." [This is happening also in our Masses, right? I think they'll be safe since they will be in the Ordinariate and not in any of the kumbaya parishes we have.]
Over the next few months, members of St. Luke's will attend catechism classes to learn more about the Catholic faith and the its doctrines. [This is such a blessing since we do not have this in our parishes nowadays, right? If you do, please state your name and parish and the schedule of Catechism classes.] Then in October they will be formally confirmed into the Roman Catholic Church -- what Lewis calls the return of the prodigal son. [Beautiful analogy!]
"We drifted away and now we want to come home," he said, "and I am just thankful that we have the opportunity to do so."

These people see the need to be with the Catholic Church, the one true fold that Christ Himself founded and left in the care of the apostles under the leadership of Peter.
And yet you hear Modernist nuns and priests telling you that you do not have to be in the Church to be saved.
Just be a good person and your done.
