The blog of a group of Filipino Catholics and their frank commentary on anything that affects their lives as a citizen of the Philippines and as a Roman Catholics.
my lola used to tell me all of these Kwaresma "holidays". Domingo de Lazaro, Domingo de Panis, Domingo de Ramos, Miercoles de Ceniza, Viernes Dolores. When I was young I remember that people know by heart the "who's who" of the Holy Week processions. Salome, Veronica, Jacobe, Cleofe. Even the changing titles of the Virgin, Dolorosa, Angustia and Soledad. If you ask now a kumbaya priest, an ACTIVE youth for Christ member, a yupppie who is an ACTIVE member of the PARISH MUSIC MINISTRY who or what these things are...I bet they would scratch their hands and wonder what you are talking about. By the way, these are the people who wants to convince you (and themselves) that they are true to the bone Catholics. PS. I know somebody would say, well knowing those things does not make a Catholic a good Catholic. A looong post might need to answer that. But let me answer it simply, knowing those things makes a Catholic STAND OUT from the rest of those folks who claim to be Christian. Knowing those things confirms that I honor the traditions that was cherished by the Catholic Church for such a long time. I am a part of a tradition that could trace itself back to Christ and his apostles. Something that the rest of the non Catholic Christians may never claim. CATHOLIC IDENTITY is the key! PPS: Here's a "challenge" try and ask your EMHC what those terms are...let's see if they could answer it right. =)
