Traditional Habits of Congregations of Men

I found this wonderful illustration of the different garbs and habits of some of the biggest Orders, Societies and Congregations of Men in the Church.

The words describing the order or societies are in French but you can make out which group of men wears what.

The operative word here is TRADITIONAL.

That is why in a situation where most of the men of the cloth do not realize that they have been "modernized" or unknowingly been influenced by the heresy of Modernism, rarely would you find the men of these societies wearing the distinctive garb of their consecration to their way of lives.

Let the discussion about religious habits....begin!

  3. this is funny, the dominicans in UST rarely wear their habits. mainit daw. hehehe!!!! when i was a freshman i mistook the rector for a college instructor, naka polo barong kasi eh. hehe!!! sorry for being irreverent. Even the nuns' habits tumataas na ang hemline. Siguro kinukulang na sa tela at mainit nga kasi. hehehe!!!!

  4. Actually, cagayano, the excuse of being mainit and too uncomfortable is the flimsiest excuse I have ever heard from priests, nuns and brothers who do not want to wear their cassocks and habits.

Put it this way. If you do not want to wear your uniform, you do not want to be seen as someone with the rest of those who wear their uniform or you plainly do not want to be recognized.

Too much liberalism and Modernism in the Church, that is the REAL reason why these men and women of the CLOTH do not wear the CLOTH anymore.

    Ironic, eh?

  6. Dapat bang ang mga priests even when they're commuting (e.g. jeep) naka habit?

  7. One of the priests who celebrates mass in our parish is a Franciscan-Conventual. He wears the beautiful OFMConv. habit kahit mainit and kahit (mukhang) di komportable (kasi mukhang coarse yung tela). What's amazing is that I saw him riding a motorcycle as he arrived in our church...WEARING THE HABIT! Imagine nakamotor siya (yun yung service niya) tapos suot niya abito nila...walang excuse kung mainit ba o hindi komportable. Napasimple at napakfaithful niya bilang isang Franciscan. Lagi ko siyang ipinagdadasal. Pray for all of our priests din :)
