Youngest Pinoy Archbishop to receive pallium

The archbishop (center) after the ordination mass he presided.

37 archbishops will receive their pallium from the hands of the Holy Father during the Mass of the Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul on June 29.

Among those who will receive their pallium is Filipino archbishop Socrates Villegas of Lingayen - Dagupan.  He is only 42 years old.

Usually the Vatican invites the Patriarch of Constantinople to this event and the patriarch attends dressed in his choir robes.

I will post the video as soon as it is available.

  1. Does the Ecumenical Patriarch act as a co-consecrator in these rites?

  2. No he doesn't. He only joins during the liturgy of the word. A Latin Rite deacon and a Orthodox Greek deacon proclaims the Gospel, then the Books of the Gospel would be given to the Pope and the Patriarch who would bless the people with it. The Patriarch remains seated with the Pope in the High Altar of St. Peter's while the Pope delivers the homily. He goes down right after the homily.

  3. Hi TPC,
Abp Soc Villegas is probably 49 years old, give or take 1 year. He was our high school batchmate in Letran College. We graduated high school in 1977.

    God bless,
    - Willy
