According to Pope Saint John Paul II, abuses 'contribute to the obscuring of the Catholic faith and doctrine concerning this wonderful sacrament' (Ecclesia de Eucharistia, n. 10 page 439)

The reprobated practice by which Priests, Deacons or the faithful here and there alter or vary at will the texts of the Sacred Liturgy that they are charged to pronounce, must cease. I call on His Eminence, Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, D.D., S.Th.D. to 'root out this and other such abuses because the regulation of the Liturgy depends on the bishop..' and because 'the life in Christ of his faithful people in some sense is derived from and depends on him'. (Second Vatican Council, Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy Sacrosanctum Concilium, 22, 1)
