Recent updates on Vatican - SSPX discussions

Vatican City, May 16, 2012 / 10:25 am (CNA/EWTN News).- The Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith has announced it will hold separate talks with the superior general of the breakaway traditionalist Society of St. Pius X and each of its three other bishops to try and acheive reconciliation.

“The text of the response of Bishop Bernard Fellay, received on 17 April, 2012, was examined and some observations, which will be considered in further discussions between the Holy See and the Society of St. Pius X, were formulated,” said a communique issued May 16.

The statement was published after a quarterly meeting of the Ordinary Session of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

The 16-person committee – known as Feria Quarta – met this morning to discuss the modifications made by the Superior of the Society of St. Pius X, Bishop Bernard Fellay, to a “doctrinal preamble” prepared last year by the Vatican. The document establishes a framework for agreement on some key issues of Church doctrine, including acceptance of the teachings of the Second Vatican Council.

In contrast to Bishop Fellay, the Society’s three other bishops seem hostile to the idea of reconciliation with Rome.

Today’s Vatican communiqué said the situations of the three other bishops “will have to be dealt with separately and singularly.”  [Excellent solution, IMHO!]

Earlier this month, Bishops Bernard Tissier de Mallerais, Alfonso de Galarreta and Richard Williamson sent a letter to Bishop Fellay warning that an agreement with the Vatican would see the Society “cease to oppose the universal apostasy of our time.”

They also argued that the Second Vatican Council “did not just include particular errors but represented a total perversion of the mind, a new philosophy founded on subjectivism.”

Pope Benedict XVI was dismissed by the three Pius X Society bishops as a “subjectivist.”  [Almost to the point of calling Pope Benedict XVI an anti-pope!]

Prior to today’s statement, many observers thought it was possible that the committee would announce an agreement with the Society that could be presented to Pope Benedict XVI for his judgment.

Feria Quarta consists of some of the Vatican’s senior curial figures, such as Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone [Uhm..] and several bishops from key dioceses, including Cardinal Christoph Schonborn [ugh!] of Vienna and Cardinal Jean-Pierre Ricard [uhm....]of Bordeaux. It is chaired by the Prefect of the Congregation, the American Cardinal William Levada.

The Society of St. Pius X was founded by Archbishop Marcel Lefebrve in 1970 as a response to what he described as errors that had crept into the Catholic Church following the Second Vatican Council. Its relations with the Vatican became strained in 1988 when Archbishop Lefebrve consecrated four bishops against the orders of Pope John Paul II.

***

Archbishop Lefebrve was one of the many conservatives during Vatican II.  He was particularly critical of the reform of the Mass.

It was just the TLMass which the nutty and modernist liturgists want to destroy that led to the rupture, well of course including the illegal consecration of the four bishops.

Let us all pray and hope for the full reconciliation of the Society to the One Church of Jesus Christ that persists ONLY in the Catholic Church which is shepherded today by the Successor of St. Peter, Pope Benedict XVI.

The reintegration of the Society back into the Church will bring much fruit, you can bet on it.  We have to thank them, in a way, because it was through their actions that the Traditional Movement in the Church came about, whether you accept it or not.

Take it from a SECRET SSPX DOG!

Hahahaha!

Sorry can't help it.

PS:    I know that this arrogant apologist would insist that the SSPX deserve all the insult and bad-mouth that he trashed out to them.

But did the Holy See do it that way?

Did Blessed John Paul and Pope Benedict XVI did it that way?

I remember an abrasive and verbally abusive character of a priest like that back in my high school days.

And quite frankly, priests like this give a bad rep to the Catholic priesthood.

Shame on you!

  1. God bless Bishop Fellay.

Bishop Williamson was born a protestant and only received into the Catholic Church at the age of 31. Five years later he was ordained a priest in the SSPX. His later history is known to all.

Of all the consecrations made by Arcbhishop Lefebvre, Williamson is the biggest blunder. He has carried his anti-Catholic Protestant baggage to the SSPX where he continues his anti-Rome venom. He should be called out for the Protestant he really is.

  2. What really ticks me off, is even the top brasses of the Vatican NEVER uses such kind of tactic in dealing with the SSPX. My question is, whether this PRIEST was able to "reconcile" back into full communion, just one, JUST EVEN ONE prelate of the Society? Nada! (In Russian, Nyet, nyet!) This 'pseudo' Holy Inquisitor would rather condemn these "dogs" to hell, than desire their full reconciliation. Very anti-biblical, and anti-Vatican II! I wonder what's going on in this medieval mind of his knowing that the Superior of the Society (in his recent Letter to the three other bishops) has declared such applause to His Holiness the Pope? Eh, ni isang update since April wala eh, nyet, nyet! Well, it's kinda understandable, since he has his hands full from the "pulpols." But there is one 'English' word better to describe such silence: "KERYENTE!!" :D
