Taken during the Mass for the opening of the Year of the Laity in the Philippines as declared by Filipino Roman Catholic bishops. This was at the Diocese of Cubao where the self-proclaimed liturgical expert Jeff Velasco lords it over the parishes in a way even his mentor, the late Dom Anscar Chupungco, would not had ever imagined doing!
Yeah.
Get the girls to do a man's job!
Serving at the altar promotes and encourages priestly vocation.
What do you think these girls would want right after this?
How would they graduate into a higher calling to serve after this, huh?
They become nuns?
BUT........nuns do not serve at the Mass!
So what now?
Go ahead.
Confuse us more Kuya Nok!
Great liturgical training here!
"Pope (Saint) Gelasius in his ninth letter (chap. 26) to the Bishops of Lucania condemned the evil practice which had been introduced of women serving the priest at the celebration of Mass. Since this abuse had spread to the Greeks, Innocent IV strictly forbade it in his letter to the Bishop of Tusculum: 'Women should not dare to serve at the altar; they should be altogether refused this ministry.' We too have forbidden this practice in the same words ...." (n. 29).

I strongly AGREE!
ReplyDeleteLet us leave the altar boys role ONLY FOR THE BOYS! Let this be a practicum and a "taste test" for them to be on the altar.
