Summorum Pontificum Seminar in Davao City!

CIRCULAR LETTER OF HIS EXCELLENCY FERNANDO R. CAPALLA
ON THE SEMINAR ON SUMMORUM PONTIFICUM

Circular No. 18
Series of 2011-09-01
24 August 2011-09-01

TO: ALL PRIESTS, RELIGUOUS COMMUNITES, CATHOLIC SCHOOLS, GKK LEADERS AND ACLAIM

FROM: ARCHBISHOP FERNANDO R. CAPALLA

RE: SEMINAR ON THE LATIN MASS

There has been confusion on the understanding and celebration of the Latin Mass now being allowed officially by the Church. This confusion has affected our pastoral life and activities. The presence of priests of the Society of St. Pius X, a group not approved by the Church, has added to the confusion. There is therefore an urgent need to erase the confusion and to promote correct understanding and proper pastoral concern.

For this purpose we need to understand Pope Benedict XVI's Motu Proprio SUMMORUM PONTIFICUM. Towards this end I requested Fr. Joel Caasi, LSL, professor of Liturgy at our Regional Seminary and Director of our Archdiocesan Liturgical Center, to give a seminar on the Latin Mass and related Church documents especially in its theology and value for Christian life in general and for pastoral life in particular.

The Seminar will be held at the 5th floor of the Karpentrade Bldg. at McArthur Highway, Matina, Davao City (near NCCC Mall). On this floor are located the offices of the Archdiocesan Center for Ecumenical and Inter-religious Dialogue (ACEID) and the Formation Center for Interfaith/Intercultural Dialogue and Peace (FCIIDP).

The Seminar starts at 8:00 'oclock and ends at 11:00 oclock in the morning of Saturday, 01 October 2011. Only snacks will be served.

With my blessings and prayers,

Devotedly yours in Christ,

(Signed) FERNANDO R. CAPALLA
Archbishop of Davao

  1. i think the Archbishop uses a wrong term here. to say that the SSPX is not approved by the Church i think is misleading. first, thanks to the effort of Archbishop Lefebvre and the SSPX we were able to save what has been denied to many, that is a great treasure of Liturgical Tradition. second if SSPX is not approved by the Church i don't think the Hoy See would enter into doctrinal talks with them. Is just that many are discovering the true notion of the sacred and many bishops are afraid of the charism many traditionalist group possess like the SSPX.
