Bishop Richard Williamson of the traditionalist Society of St Pius X (SSPX) has administered the sacrament of Confirmation to nearly 100 lay Catholics in Brazil without the approval of his own breakaway society. [He thinks he is his own Pope!]
The celebration took place in Nova Friburgo town, Rio de Janeiro state, at the end of August and was organised by the Benedictine Monastery of the Holy Cross.
On the SSPX's website on 6 September, Fr Christian Bouchacourt, the group's district superior of South America, denounced the bishop's behaviour as "a serious act against the virtue of obedience" and "an attack upon the most elementary demands of courtesy".

…I think over the period of a couple thousand years, the church developed some institutional “money changers.” ["lovely" term to use.]  The “rites,” that’s R-I-T-E-S, became failings in some ways. Just to be clear, there is nothing inherently wrong with the old rites, Latin or the Tridentine Mass. [Oh really, now eh?] They were beautiful and mystical, but sometimes they were so mystical that they cut us off from the immanent reality of Jesus with us and in us. [Here comes the We are Church hippies.] If you’re near my age, you might recognize this little book. It’s the Missal that my Mom & Dad bought for me as a Confirmation gift. This gift was a symbol that I was no longer a child. I was now, at the age of ten, responsible to take my missal to every mass I attended, and follow the reading and prayers as they were said by the priest. There was just one minor problem, and it began like this: “In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen. Introibo ad altare Dei. Ad Deum qui laetificat juventutem meam.” (That means, “In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. I will go in to the Altar of God. To God, the joy of my youth.”)  [minor?]

The mass was celebrated entirely in a language that none of us understood. [uhm...kids I see serving at Mass DO!] The priest stood with his back to us  [he wants to see the priest not pray along with the priest, worshiping in the same direction just like how the Jews, like Jesus Christ, worshiped in the Temple.]   saying words that, even if we could hear them, which we seldom could, we didn’t understand. Missals had Latin and English translations, so those who had them tried their best to keep up, eyes darting back and forth between the Latin and the English. [he did this every Mass?  Gosh!  He must not have been a regular Mass-goer then if he still cannot remember what those words meant in English!] did This language confusion caused some people to just give up.  [give up?  people?  maybe he did.  Oh yeah, obviously he did.] People often spent their time at mass in personal devotions like the rosary.

As we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the beginning of Vatican II, [Kumbaya!!!] I think it’s important to remember what things looked like before the council reforms. As the people of God we have always been called to worship well. But, as Father Dibble reminded us last week, the council was called to “open the windows,” to bring some fresh air into every aspect of the church, including worship. [As Pope Paul VI, the pope who closed the Council said, ""From some fissure the smoke of satan entered into the temple of God."  Need I say more?  Some opening we did there, huh!  Lotsa fresh air to expect but what we got is stench of the modern world coming in!] If you are as little as five or ten years younger than I, you probably have few memories of the pre-Vatican II church. So I want to take a few minutes to walk down memory land and share with you what it looked like back then.    [And the ridicule begins. Note folks!  This is nasty.  As nasty as that narcissist priest in Megamall and his infamous Swsswswswswhshhhh joke.]

(Slide 1) This is what the inside of a typical Catholic Church looked like in 1960. There was beautiful art work, painted ceilings, and many statues. If you look at either side of this picture, you’ll notice the “side altars.” Very often, while one mass was being offered at the main altar, separate masses would be offered at one or both of the side altars. The idea that any mass was more about the celebrant than the people might be viewed as one of the pre-Vatican II failings of the church.   [Where on earth did this deacon get his theological training!  It ought to be burned to the ground!  The concept that there are simultaneous Masses going on is that there was no such thing as a concelebrated Mass where concelebrating priest just stand up, raise there hands, MUMBLE, put down their hands, and that's it.  Each priest MUST celebrate his OWN MASS.  No concelebration.  That was his duty.  Imagine the number of Masses offered for you and me back then!  1 Mass with 10 concelebrating priest is waaayyy too different from 11 priest each saying his own Mass.]

(Slide 2) As we look at a closer shot, we see a wooden structure that separates the body of the church from the sanctuary. That’s the communion rail, and it served two functions. It was where one received communion, but it was also a physical barrier between the altar and the people. Could that be a money changer? I’ll come back to that in a minute.   [He is a people person folks.  He hates barriers.  But, yes of course, I was being sarcastic.]

(Slide 3) Look at this altar, with its ornate carvings. You could always tell if the mass was really “important” by two things: [Didn't the reforms of Vatican II did that?  Ever heard of Solemnity, Memorial, Optional Memorial?  Isn't that a way of telling how "important the Mass being celebrated is?] how many candles were lit on the altar and how many acolytes served at mass. The more important the feast was, the greater were the numbers of both. Look at all of the steps the priest had to climb to approach the tabernacle. Do you think these trappings might be thought of as institutional failings or “money changers”?   [FAILINGS?!?!?!]

(Slide 4) Here’s another communion rail in front of the altar. This is where everyone had to kneel to receive the Blessed Sacrament. The Communion Cloth, this white cloth, was draped over the communion rail by the altar servers, and then communicants had to kneel with their hands under the cloth in case the priest dropped the host and the altar server didn’t catch it with the paten that was held under the chin of each Communicant. Only the priest and bishop had thumbs and forefingers consecrated so they could touch the host. [STILL IS!  Ever saw an EMHC got his fingers CONSECRATED.  In Catholic theology, consecration is sooooo different.] To me the idea that only consecrated fingers could touch the Blessed Sacrament was a bit silly. Why is any finger more sacred than any other?   [So he is just telling you and me that getting ordained, getting consecrated is SILLY.  Poor you and me.  We are no different from Buddhist who did not get baptized and confirmed because we are no different from each other.  Poor bishops and priests, they wore all these "trappings" of a vestment but they do not mean a thing since their fingers are no sacred than Joe the Plumber's fingers.  And this guy is a DEACON!!!!  Ugh!]

(Slide 5) This is a rather innocent looking picture, but there is one thing that is worth noting: we didn’t have altar servers, just altar boys! That’s a pretty obvious failing in the institutional church, and we thankfully now include both girls and boys in altar service.   [They didn't have altar servers?!?!  Only altar boys?!?!  What the?!?!  What dictionary this guy is using?  And what good did it bring to the Church for having girls serve at the altar?  Isn't that a form of discrimination?  To have girls, young WOMYN serve MEN at the altar?  My goodness!  WOMYN are not born to serve MEN!!!  Que horror!!! Que barbaridad!!! This is outrageous!!! Call Gabriela!!! Call Sr. Mary John Mananzan!!!  Call.............Oh forget it!]

(Slide 6) And then, after we realized that we had so many money changers in our own lives, we had to go to the confessional. It was dark. It was scary and it seemed to be focused on us doing the correct penance rather than on understanding our failings.   [Huh?!  Was he confessing in the sewers?  This guy must have been watching too much Indiana Jones movies.]

(Slide 7) This last slide shows a joyous day, the day that these young people were confirmed. Don’t they look joyful? I think "terrified" is a better adjective. And look how the boys and girls are segregated.   [Ugh!]

Fifty years since the beginning of Vatican II, I think the reforms instituted have made our church into a much better place. [WHA?!  In Mars!] The people of God are the worshiping community, not a community separated from the clergy.  [When?  Whenever we worship at a TLM, we followed what the priest does and we worship at the same time.  We are no mere audiences watching a showman do his stuff up on stage.] While we praise and worship our mystical God, we are more in touch with the immanent God who sits with us in our own skin.  ["Sits with us on our own skin?!?!"  What in the world does that mean?!?!] There is still much work to be done. There are still too many ignored and silenced voices. [Do I hear an "Occupy the Vatican" somewhere in this cranky Vatican II guy?] But let us rejoice during this anniversary in the strides that we have made, and ask our good and gracious God to be with us as we strive to chase the money changers out of the temple and become the people and church that he wants us to be.

This deacon is serving in the Diocese of Oakland, Callifornia where its bishop, Most. Rev. Salvatore Cordileone, regularly celebrates the Latin Mass in a parish administered by the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest, which is centered on the traditional liturgy.

Secondly, this deacon has painted a picture that the situation before Vatican II is all too grim and that Vatican II made the Church so rosy. Well reality check my friend! Thank Vatican II for giving us Cardinals Martini, Mahoney and Wuerl. Thank Vatican II for giving me such sorry excuse for a married deacon like you who do not even know what he is commenting about, which quite honestly is what most hippies do.

And lastly, I did not keep my promise. You know I will rant against this aging hippies. Ha!

"If you’re near my age" (57), you might still be able to crawl up into the choir loft, at one of California's Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter parishes (FSSP). You'll be amazed. In "normal" parishes, young people of any age, whether teenagers, primary school or toddlers, are actually rather scarce; or to invert it, most of the heads are gray. In an FSSP parish, the pews are filled with the next generation of the New Evangelization, in all young age ranges. The enlightened practice of altar girls isn't visible; instead there are solemn quasi-military processions of dedicated young men altar servers. Many of these are the priests of tomorrow - who will be serving the new world of Christ's faithful long after the Deacon John Ashmores have relavenced themselves into extinction.

Now in fairness, Deacon Ashmore should show a slideshow of the 'fresh air' that Vatican II supposedly brought in: Slide 1: Wreckovations of Catholic parishes, ie removal of statues,removing the high altar and introducing the Cranmer table, etc. Slide 2: The priest from saying the Mass facing God to facing the people, just one of many novelties of the Novus Ordo Mass. Slide 3: Men and women religious disgarding their cassocks and habits, as well as sound Catholic teaching. Slide 4: Closing of Catholic parishes and schools. Slide 5: Communion in hand. Slide 6: Pro homosexual "Dignity Masses". Slide 7: The Religious Education Congress. Slide 8: "Liturgical Dancing" Slide 9: Guitars and tambourines for folk and rock and roll 'masses'. Slide 10: Altar girls (and we wonder why there is a shortage of priests? Many altar boys became priests) Slide 11: the horde of EMOCs at every mass. Slide 12: The apostasy of Catholic colleges and universities (Notre Dame honors Barack Obama) Slide 13: Interfaith prayer services (what happened to the Catholic faith being the only true faith?) I was born in 1953. During that time, going to Church was a serious way. We dress up decently and dressing up for the Sacrifice of the Mass, our dress was called 'Sunday Dress'. We were wearing veil and we had Missal and Rosary with us.Even the Priests then wore Sotanas or the Collar. They never wore civilian clothes. Now, because of too much liberty, tolerance to convenience and the mentality formed to be "In", more often balance is lost between solemnity and loudness. To cut the story short, there is really a necessity to evaluate the Vatican II. We Laity will always be in union with our Holy Father who acts too in union with his Bishops. I hope the Clergy will also be in union with the Bishops.

I wish my good friend Jay Balza reads this and sends a note to Bishop Cordileone about this. Not only because this deacon ridiculed a centuries old liturgy, but because he gave a sloppy homily on that Mass' Gospel: Jesus cleaning the Temple.

Yup, that is where this deacon got his inspiration for "money-changers". Hope I see "deacon's changing" soon.

A "catholic" politician's rants. And I do too!

BE MODERN . . If there is one ongoing criticism of the Catholic Church, it is the fact that it is antiquated and has not modernized.  [On what areas?]

Here comes Legaspi Bishop Joel Baylon telling the faithful to dress properly to go to church, and not wear skimpy shorts or t-shirts and sandals or sneakers in church.

Shorts and miniskirts are accepted dressing even in business offices. [Shorts are accepted in offices?!]  Why ban it in church? Haven’t priests given up using long dresses?

Especially during summer, considering that churches are hot places, churchgoers should be allowed to use comfortable clothes. What is important is the people come to church, not what they wear. Remember 80% of our people are poor and cannot afford to buy several sets of clothes.

The Church is an agent to modernize the world.  Remember that some of the brilliant minds in the world are either Catholic clergy or laity.

Never did the Church was against the advancement of science.  In fact, the Church gave birth to the modern university system.  Almost all of the oldest universities in the world were started by Catholic orders.

But I digress, just as this politician and columnist is.

To get to point 1, "What is the proper attire when worshipping?'

Yeah, some people would say that it is not what is on the outside that matters but what is on the inside.  Uh-huh?

Some would say "Look at what Christ said against the hypocrisy of Pharisees and scribes."

Woah!  Wait a minute, little Jimmy!

Christ was condemning the incongruence of the inner reality with what the Pharisees were wearing.  Their holiness is only good from outside.  Christ did not condemn what they were wearing.  He condemned the Pharisees' hypocrisy for drawing attention to themselves, telling the whole world that "Hey look!  I am wearing this.  I maybe holy!"

This is not the case for wearing the appropriate garment for the appropriate occasion.  Going to work is not the same as going to a graduation ceremony or going to a job interview or going to an audience with the Queen of England.  No, siree!  They are not the same.

Same thing goes for this debate and quite frankly, either a stupid commentary from former Senator Maceda or some modernist priest telling him "that what matters is what is inside the heart" thing.

If what is important is what is inside, then, by golly PROVE IT OUTSIDE!

Show it with what you wear.  The inner reality becomes visible to the naked eye and audible to the human ear with what we say or do.

So, the next time you see someone coming to your wedding, to your birthday party, to any important event in your life and he or she comes wearing that fits a bum in a park, then you should look at that person as a.....bum!

Do the proper things in the appropriate time and setting, properly.

If Sen. Maceda were in front of the Queen of England, he would have told the Queen that all those layer of cloth are worthless and the "thing" she wear on top of her head is too antiquated and should be left at the museum.

DESPITE reports to the contrary, sources say [WHO NOW?] there’s no particular Vatican concern about the new archbishop of Manila over an article he contributed more than a decade ago to a controversial history of the Second Vatican Council. The article had not been part of the official documentation considered before his appointment. [If there is nothing wrong with it, why leave that one out?]

Luis Antonio Tagle, 54, seen as one of the leading theological minds among the Asian bishops, was installed as the 32nd archbishop of Manila Dec. 12, after being named to the position by Pope Benedict XVI on Oct. 13.

Though Tagle has been hailed as a rising Asian star and even a possible papal contender, a mid-November article by veteran Italian journalist Sandro Magister suggested that some in the Vatican may have second thoughts, related to an article Tagle authored for a history of Vatican II edited by Italian scholars Giuseppe Alberigo and Alberto Melloni, exponents of a progressive current in Italian Catholicism known as the “Bologna school.”  [The Baloney school]


The Alberigo and Melloni history has been blamed in some quarters for promoting a distorted reading of Vatican II as a “rupture” with previous eras of church history – as opposed to the “hermeneutic of reform,” emphasizing continuity with the Church before Vatican II, promoted by Benedict.  [Well, Tagle's connection to the Baloney school explains why he spoke that way when he was my teacher at LST.  He portrays Vatican II as the Super Council.  Yup.  No joke.  He speaks differently when not in the classroom.]

Tagle earned his doctorate at The Catholic University of America under Fr. Joseph Komonchak, the American editor of the Alberigo and Melloni history, and joined the project’s editorial team while a seminary professor. In 1999, Tagle contributed an essay to the fourth volume of the history on Vatican II’s so-called “Black Week,” which unfolded at the close of the council’s third session in 1964, when several actions by Pope Paul VI caused alarm among reform forces.

First US Episcopalian parish received into the Catholic Church!

That is Cardinal Donald Wuerl of Washington anointing the Rev. Mark Lewis, the former rector of St. Luke’s Episcopal Parish in Bladensburg, Maryland during his Confirmation and members of his parish at the Crypt of the National Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.

He came in last symbolic of his role as shepherd of the community. "A good shepherd must be sure his flock gets through the gate" he said.

“We considered ourselves a Catholic parish to begin with,” said Lewis, the former pastor. “We aligned ourselves much more closely with Catholic theology than Protestant theology. If you really weren’t a student of religion, you would say nothing has really changed. What’s taking place is internal. Becoming Roman Catholic was a natural progression of our faith.”

One interesting note is that at the basilica, the parishioners stood to receive Holy Communion which is unusual for them since at St. Luke’s, they usually receive kneeling.

Yup, you are right Doc Ben. Sometimes, those who are not Catholics are MORE CATHOLICS than those who call themselves Catholics.

RH Catholics come into mind? How about Catholic priests who HATE parishioners kneeling for Communion and receiving only on the tongue?

SARS! Yeah, you wish. There's no more health scare, WHY NOT STOP COMMUNION IN THE HAND?!?!

Here is the infamous Missionary of Jesus Fr. Percy Bacani, who conducted an "Avatar Mass", yup I had to wash my hands with hand sanitizer just for typing those two words, now leading what seems to be a Mass, considering that there is an altar, covered with a plain white cloth that can be used later as chasuble, one teenie weeny candle on it, and he is wearing a white overlay stole over his secular clothing, which, uhm, obviously are all liturgical abuses identified by Redemptionis Sacramentum.

And here, which looks like a writing session of sorts or something.  Makes you feel like you are in pre-school again.  Ha!

It is a concelebrated Mass!!!!  Look at the man in pink shirt with a white overlay stole!

And they are singing "Making Melodies"?!?!?!?!?!

Is this a case of being "uninformed" or was the nun really trying to say something "new" for the sake of 'something new' as inspired by the supposed 'Spirit of Vatican 2'?  I think the nun is no nincompoop. She knows her theology and she knows she treading on dangerous grounds and I know she would not dare fight if confronted by the bishops about this....IF THEY EVER CONFRONT HER.

This is a GULP EXAM also folks!

On the wider appreciation of the environment, I think we should have a campaign for spirituality. And I think the best spirituality there is, is the ecofeminist spirituality. Seeing earth as a "mother," the way many tribal groups also consider the earth as "mother." So this ecofeminist spirituality should be developed.  [This is a friendlier, nay "safe" way of saying "Hey!  Let us do what the PAGANS are doing!  Worship Nature!]

Right now, I encounter women and environment in all my advocacies. I think we need to develop that eco-spirituality, and the women could be very helpful in this area. It does not have to be very esoteric. I think we need to go back to the rituals. [What now?] And we need to soil ourselves with the earth--get in touch with the earth, walk barefoot on the ground. [Uhm...unless you are farming which I do.]  We need more poetry to get in touch. We need words and metaphors to bridge us, to bridge the gap between our isolated selves. [*sniff*] We need to connect in a different way. We need to see the world in a grain of sand and see heaven in a wild flower. In other words, in all advocacies we are engaged in, I think we need to go into a contemplative mood. [No argument there.]  Part of the environmental movement should really be contemplative action. Without that, the mountain is just a resource. Without that, a tree is just measured according to cubic feet or cubic metres. Without that, it's easy to dig the bowels of the earth. Without that, you see people as not part of a landscape. Without the contemplative spirit, you don't see the blood that has been spilled over the land in the previous struggles. And without that, you cannot appreciate that the earth is worshipping God. [Uhm.]

This may look all too safe but it borders on the Wiccan spirituality which a lot of priests and nuns in Mindanao love to teach their students and retreatants.  And this Jesuit is no exception being a priest assigned in Davao.

Earthen jars used to burn incense, native woven, Wiccan "liturgical dance" you'll have it in your Mass later on.

I have received a lot of emails asking for my take on her dissident-laced, not thanks to MST, speech and lecturing our bishops and even the Pope of how wrong these men are about contraception, Vatican 2 and all that jazz...

Stay tuned folks, because hell hath no fury than a Pinoy Catholic scorned by a looney dissident who has not even earned her degree in theology yet....

But has the audacity to lecture the bishops and the Pope about morals, the Faith and theology.

On second thought, she is CRAZY.

PRESS RELEASE: Catholic Clergy Disavow Disobedience

From the Confraternity of Catholic Clergy

Motivated out of the loving bond of brotherhood between all men in Holy Orders, the Confraternity of Catholic Clergy (a national association of 500 priests and deacons) invokes fraternal correction on the 157 American priests who recently and imprudently signed a statement supporting Father Bourgeois’s “right to speak his conscience”. We charitably remind our brethren that this priest blatantly attended and participated in the invalid pseudo-ordination of a woman. Such actions risk the canonical penalty of excommunication and are injurious to the common good of the Mystical Body of Christ. We also admonish the dissident priests and deacons in Austria who signed the infamous "Call to Disobedience" and urge them to repent and recant.

Every deacon and priest takes the Oath of Fidelity before he is ordained and during the sacrament of Holy Orders he makes a solemn promise of obedience and respect to his bishop. Obedience to the Magisterium on doctrinal matters and obedience to the Hierarchy on disciplinary matters is not an option but an essential component of ordained ministry. As Catholic Clergy we are all commissioned by Christ to teach only what the Church teaches and to obey our lawful superiors in humility and fraternal charity. Espousing heretical teachings and/or defying legitimate ecclesiastical authority causes harm to the unity and welfare of the Bride of Christ. As brothers in Holy Orders, we pray for all deacons, priests and bishops that all of us can renew our promise of obedience and our oath of fidelity to better serve the Christian
faithful who deserve nothing less from us.

But they are the REAL authorities.

So, who would we obey then? Who is the authority that we should listen to?

Dissidents are pissed

The liturgical dissident blog Pray Tell of that cry baby Benedictine has posted this report about reactions to Universae Ecclesiae

The German Bishops’ Conference declared that the Instruction contains “no fundamental innovations”; [uhm, it does.] furthermore, interest in the old Mass in Germany is slim. [sure about it?  If then, why not have one EF Mass at every parish and have every priest and seminarian get a training.] The secretary of the German Bishops’ Conference, Hans Langendörfer, emphasized that the document would have no great effect upon church practice. At the present time, the old Mass is celebrated in only 128 places in Germany out of 11,383 parishes.  [yeah, right.  Then why be troubled?]

Professor Helmut Hoping of the University of Freiburg praised the new document. Much is clarified that was previously unclear. He expects that the old form of the Mass will now be celebrated more frequently in those 150 places where it has been celebrated up until now.  [Precisely!  Priests are afraid to openly celebrate the EF Mass because their bishops are silently dissenting against the pope and have their sights against the traddies.]

Benedikt Kranemann, chairman of the Association of Catholic Liturgists, (Arbeitsgemeinschaft katholischer Liturgiewissenschaftler), lamented that the criticism from bishops’ conferences and theologians of the introduction of two parallel forms of the liturgy was “not taken into account at all.” [Yes it was.  You were just not reading it or you do not care at all.]  The document misses the real problems of the church in Germany. “What is really important to the majority of people doesn’t even appear in this discussion.”  [Uhm.  Wrong topic!  On second thought, it really does!  Returning the sense of the sacred?  Ring a bell?]

The traditionalist Society of St. Pius the X greeted the paper: Benedict has placed “necessary reins on the arbitrary suppression” of the rules by many bishops. [Which I agree.  Remember what the Archdiocese of Manila did for blatantly regulating the implementation of Summorum Pontificum?]

Bishop Friedrich Weber, delegate for Catholic affairs of the Lutheran Church in Germany, expressed criticism. From the evangelical Lutheran viewpoint, [as if it matters!  Remember that these heretics despise the EF Mass because this very Mass expresses what they do not believe in!]  comprehensibility is an essential criterion. When the liturgy is incomprehensible, it become nothing but an external performance and no longer fulfills the urgent requirement of engaged participation.  [Speaking like the honorary Lutheran I know.  Ha!  And the "comprehensible", like what we suffered for the last 40 years was not an "external performance and fulfills the urgent requirement of engaged participation"!  No wonder a lot of great saints were nourished by THAT incomprehensible liturgy and it did not engage them.  Really?  Puh-leaazzze!]

After UE, next work for the pope I guess is to clean up the mess these dissidents.

First example is that neck tie wearing Australian pro women's ordination, general absolution bishop.

It is a sign that dissidents will be treated the way they are supposed to be treated!

You cannot do your own Mass!

Blessed John Paul II in his own turn recalled that “Sacred Liturgy expresses and celebrates the one faith professed by all and, being the heritage of the whole Church, cannot be determined by local Churches in isolation from the universal Church” (Encyclical Ecclesia de Eucharistia, n. 51) and that “Liturgy is never anyone’s private property, be it of the celebrant or of the community in which the mysteries are celebrated” (ibid. n. 52). [The two highlighted statements can't help but bring to mind how I once witnessed a Misa ng Sambayanang Pilipino.  Makes you think "Is this still a Catholic Mass?"] In the Conciliar Liturgical Constitution there is affirmed moreover: The Sacred Council declares that holy Mother Church holds all lawfully acknowledged rites to be of equal right and dignity; that she wishes to preserve them in the future and to foster them in every way” (n. 4). Esteem for ritual forms is the presupposition of the work of revision from time to time becomes necessary. Now, the two forms, Ordinary and Extraordinary, of the Roman liturgy are an example of reciprocal growth and enrichment. Whoever thinks or acts to the contrary, [public liturgical dissenters, in act or in word!  You know who you are!  We have blogged about you priests and liturgists many times before!] undermines the unity of the Roman Rite which must be tenaciously protected, does not carry out an authentic pastoral activity or correct liturgical renewal, but rather deprives the faithful of their patrimony and their inheritance to which they have a right.

Interesting notes about Universae Ecclesiae

I have received a lot of emails about the Instruction about Summorum Pontificum, "Universae Ecclesiae".

I have read it and think it is spot on.  But like the great Fr. Z, I found some provisions of the Instruction having, I think, a teeny-beeny pinholes where liberals can still squeeze in a little dissent, like the following:


20. With respect to the question of the necessary requirements for a priest to be held idoneus (“qualified”) to celebrate in the forma extraordinaria, the following is hereby stated: ...

b. Regarding the use of the Latin language, a basic knowledge is necessary, allowing the priest to pronounce the words correctly and understand their meaning.  [The dissenters might say that some priests know how to pronounce Latin but do not know the meaning of the words.  Think crazy but these dissenters might even set up a "screening process" to know who indeed has 'basic knowledge'.  A bit paranoid, no?]


21. Ordinaries are asked to offer their clergy the possibility of acquiring adequate preparation for celebrations in the forma extraordinaria. This applies also to Seminaries, where future priests should be given proper formation, including study of Latin and, where pastoral needs suggest it, the opportunity to learn the forma extraordinaria of the Roman Rite. [A more forceful term should have been used like: Ordinaries must ensure to set-up a program to train their clergy in the forma extraordinaria.  That'll leave no room for: "But, eh...the Instruction says we "are asked" not required.  'Where pastoral need suggests it" is a loophole and an excuse for liturgical dissenters to say that the diocese's pastoral need does not suggest it.  Because most bishop's see as their "pastoral need" is more "animated liturgy".   You know, stuff like that.]

TWO INTERESTING things were said by a couple of high-ranking Catholic Church officials over the last few days.

The first came from its highest official, the Pontiff. Departing from his norm, Pope Benedict appeared on TV last Friday to dialogue with the world. Good Friday being the day Christendom marks the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, his dialogue had to do with suffering.  [Not just the crucifixion but his entire Passion and Death.  Now you know how he researches his op ed page.]

He took in a question from a Japanese girl who asked, “Why do children have to be so sad?” That was in reference to the earthquake that had orphaned many Japanese. Pope Benedict replied that he too had asked himself that question many times, “Why do innocent people have to suffer?” “Be assured,” he said, “we are with you, with all the Japanese children who are suffering.”  [Try reading Blessed John Paul's Salvifici Doloris before you continue yacking your ugly head off!]

He fielded a couple more questions, one from an Italian mother who wondered where the soul of her comatose son was, and from a Muslim woman who asked the Pope how to end the violence in the Ivory Coast. To the first Pope Benedict answered, “He feels the presence of love,” his mother’s as much as God’s. To the second, he said, “The only path is to renounce violence, to begin anew with dialogue.”

The second utterance came from one of the elder statesmen of the Philippine Catholic Church, Jose Cardinal Sanchez, who once oversaw diocesan priests around the world as prefect of the Vatican Congregation on the Clergy. He lamented that P-Noy was becoming a lost sheep and expressed the hope that Congress would not join him in his waywardness.

“He is now losing his popularity. He has no firm idea on marriage. [The cardinal got that right.  But to de Quiros, it is about bed time, not the institution.] It is too much politics now and no longer religion. [His] mother [the late former President Corazon Aquino] and [his] sisters have more faith than him.” He said P-Noy should build the Filipino family by increasing its income and not destroy it by pushing for the RH bill.

I doubt that these utterances will do much to stem the dwindling numbers of Catholics, if not Christians, around the world. They do not make the Church out to be caught up in the nitty-gritty of life, laid low by its pains and sorrows, they make it out to be looking at it from a distance, free to ponder its ravages from a safe place.  [So you increase membership in the Church by offering them what they wanted, like how we see cosmetic advertisements are broadcast in media?  Wow!  Sorry for your works Sts. Paul, Francis Xavier...  The Church grew in membership by letting the people, the non Christians see the need to be saved by Christ and be INSIDE HIS ONE TRUE CHURCH!  No, not that one from that sex maniac/rapist who claims to be an angel.]

Pope Benedict’s musings were not without merit. He did come through as someone who commiserated with those in the throes of suffering, if not someone whose soul was in torment at the sight of it. The problem is that his answers did not carry with them the weight of oppression, the immediacy of being in a physical or psychological position to appreciate the depths of the questioners’ despair. Though the Pope had himself gone through the War in his youth, he had nothing comparable to the scale of disaster that had visited those that brought their troubles before him.  [So, it is a "wala ka sa lolo ko" type of debate?  Your suffering is nothing compared to mine?  So, nobody can complain about losing love one and property unless he has been through another Ondoy?  Well, tell the counsellors of Ateneo to pack their bags and stop helping us with our griefs.  They do not know what we went through right?]

That impression was deepened by the pomp and ceremony of the Church, by the regal accouterment that stamped the Pope’s authority. [Oh boy!  Here we go.  He had to bring it in.]  It was an image that subverted the message. [So, tell the Emperor of Japan to sell his castles!  Tell the Queen of England to petition Parliament to sell the Crown Jewels if a tragedy befell her people in the Commonwealth Realms!  Tell....wait a minute!  Tell William and Kate what a waste their wedding was when half of the world is suffering and have nothing to eat!  TELL THAT!]  If you’re a devout Catholic, you’ll probably buy his answers. If you’re not, you’re going to wonder if his answers to the spectacle of mind-boggling suffering doesn’t border on platitude. [If you are a subscriber to Hell's Bible and you are an admirer of this hack, then you would not bother swallowing his mind-boggling anti-Catholic vitriol.]  You’re going to wonder if just being awed and stricken dumb by the enormity of all this isn’t better than blithe commiseration. You’ll be tempted to ask why the Church doesn’t give away its possessions and live lives resembling those of carpenters and fishermen to better understand carpenters, which Christ’s father was, and fishermen, which he himself was.  [Dumb.  Idiot.  Dumb!]

You don’t have to kill to grasp the horror of murder, but you do have to suffer to grasp the meaning of suffering.   [Still idiotic!  That is your line of argument!]

Sanchez’s remarks deepen the impression of the Church’s distance from the maelstrom of life. [Even if the WHOLE DAMN WORLD says that abortion is good, the Church WILL ALWAYS SAY IT IS EVIL!  We don't give a damn about what you call the "maelstrom of life".  Ever heard of the Protestant Revolt?  The Church is still standing De Quiros.  Try harder!]  To begin with, his premise that P-Noy is losing popularity is weird. P-Noy did fall from grace with the public in the last SWS survey, but that had nothing to do with selling the condom, that had everything to do with buying a car. [Engk!  Really?  Read first.] His trust level fell from a lofty perch not by pushing Trust but by pulling in a Porsche. You must be a little lost to see a 51 percent approval rating as a sign of unpopularity. [Who is dumb now huh?]

The stranger thing is the Church’s predilection for talking authoritatively about things it has no first-hand knowledge about. [Like family planning?  Why were the clergy and the laity not born into a family?]  This is the second time an archbishop has lectured P-Noy on marriage, the other one being Archbishop Oscar Cruz who observed that P-Noy was not likely to marry having gone past the cutoff age of 50. Why has P-Noy no firm idea on marriage? [Why you think he does?  Who are you his diaper changer?] Because he hasn’t fallen into its embrace or clutches? Because he has not felt its bliss or sting? At least he has known love. [Why you think the two bishops didn't?  Maybe you'd be surprised!] I don’t know why P-Noy doesn’t reply to this in jest, “I bow to the opinion of people who are experts on love and marriage.”  [And you are?]

And the strangest thing is the part about RH destroying families. I do know that many priests and even some bishops have kids, [your proof?]  but they at least do not suffer from the inconvenience of having to raise them. [Really?  You'd be surprised!] Raising a couple of kids is hard enough. Raising a brood of 10 or 12, well, you try that and see if there is any way you and your family can get by like human beings, never mind increase your income, even with the hugest of government subsidies to food and fuel. Saying that government would do better to increase income than to decrease family is just plain irresponsible, [and because you listened to that acclaimed economist named Angsioke?] and can only be proposed by people who have no idea what it takes to maintain a household. [So you need to be sick of cancer before you treat someone with cancer.  Great argument.]  One thing I do know, and that is that that household will not be a haven of light and love, that household, if at all you can call it such, will be home to violent quarrels and part of the brood turning to crime to bring food to the table.  [DAMN YOU!  I came from that family!  Who are you to say that!  DAMN YOU TO THE DEEPEST HELL!]

Again you don’t have to sin to know the evils of sin. But you do have to die to know the meaning of resurrection. [Idiot!  The disciples knew what resurrection is when they saw Christ die and be risen from the dead!  They did not have to die before they preached the victory of Christ over death!]

So, this wise ass Conrado de Quiros thinks that in order to talk about something, you have to experience it.

So, every time he ever writes about something...let us ask him...

"You have a predilection for talking authoritatively about so many things.  Why?  DO YOU HAVE FIRST-HAND KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE THINGS YOU WRITE?"

The door is wide open...

SYDNEY—An Australian Roman Catholic bishop has quit his post over a row with the Vatican about women priests and other liberal reforms, saying that Pope Benedict XVI thought it best he be replaced.  [Honestly this is a lighter "sentence", if I may put it that way.  He deserves excommunication!]

William Morris, who has been the Catholic Bishop of the vast Queensland diocese of Toowoomba since 1993, told parishioners on Sunday that he was taking early retirement.

In a letter read at weekend mass services, 67-year-old Morris wrote: "it has been determined by Pope Benedict that the diocese would be better served by the leadership of a new bishop."

The dispute stems from Morris' comments five years ago that the church could consider ordaining married men and women because of a looming shortage of priests. [I think that was just the icing on the cake.  I think there are other things that caused him to get the boot.]

Morris, who was ordained in 1969, said his views had been misinterpreted and he had been denied natural justice.  [The What?]

The Vatican was expected to make a statement later Monday.

"We are advised that this announcement will express his acceptance of early retirement but we understand that because of the setting, it is much stronger than that," Toowoomba's vicar-general Father Peter Dorfield said.

"In effect it is a removal from office," he told ABC Radio.  [Pink slip.]

Morris' retirement, which comes some eight years before the normal retirement age for bishops of 75, left some Catholics in tears [of joy!  Ha!] and local priests have reportedly called a meeting Thursday to discuss their next step.

The resignation follows that of fellow Australian Catholic priest Peter Kennedy two years ago because of his views on the ordination of women and gay unions.

And as a friend priest told a hypocritical peace advocate (daw!) priest who insists that Christ's presence persists only during the "gathering of the people", to "leave if you cannot accept the teachings of the Church and go build your own one!"

You are nothing but royal pains in the @$$!

If you will not accept the mercy of God, then prepare to meet his Justice!
