ULTIMATE HYPOCRITE STRIKES AGAIN

What I have to say about Pope Francis and the FFI

As I have stated yesterday, I prayed it over.

And just as I prayed about it, here comes a wise, I mean, VERY wise piece of advice from Salesian Father Chito Dimaranan, who wrote to address the issue about the Holy Father and the FFI.

For the record, let me say this straight. I love the Latin Mass myself and, in fact, am trying to introduce it where I am. This does not mean, though, that I hate the Ordinary Form of the Mass (which some individuals love to derisively refer to, at times, as "Novus Ordo" (with a lot of parenthetical - if, sarcastic - comments). I also love the liturgy, but not the way some quarters use it as some kind of weapon against those again whom they derisively refer to as "novus ordo priests." I champion fidelity to the GIRM and what is stipulated there, and will obey promptly if and when the authorities decide to revise it. I rally against those who mutilate the ordo, change it arbitrarily, or otherwise add extraneous, outrageous elements not contemplated and stipulated by the General Instruction on the Roman Missal. My fidelity and allegiance is not to a Church of the past, but a living and teaching Church, headed by the Vicar of Christ, the Bishop of Rome, not some vociferous blogger that rains railings and rants from the heavens on a regular basis. I love Pope John Paul II. I love Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. And there is no reason for me to love Pope Francis any less, even as I uphold the "hermeneutics of continuity" in Church Councils and teachings, not excluding the Second Vatican Council!
Here's a quote from Taylor Marshall:
"If you love the Latin Mass, remember that Latin Mass PEOPLE are the greatest enemies of the Latin Mass movement. I love the Latin Mass. However, if I were Pope Francis and read the comments at Rorate Caeli, I’d be tempted to shut it all down. It looks sinful and disgusting from the outside. Keep a lock on your lips. Stay out of traddy online forums/blogs. Pray more. Complain less."

Amen.

And that my friends is what I have to say about this issue.

Amen.

Pope Francis and the Latin Mass

Followers of the blog are asking me about my opinion of the restrictions implemented by Pope Francis upon the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate.

Honestly, I am praying it over.

In the meantime...

Read this post from Fr. Z and Taylor Marshall.

The Old Form of the Mass attracts younger generations

Yup!

You read that right.

And get this.

This news was posted in the website of the Archdiocese of Miami.

Yup.

You won't read this in the Archdiocese of Manila!

Not by a long shot!

While these two are around!

CORAL GABLES | Joshua Hernandez is a former Protestant who credits the traditional Latin Mass for his conversion to Catholicism.

Raised to be anti-Catholic, Hernandez began to look for a Christian denomination with historical relevance and formal liturgical practice. Though he thought Catholicism seemed too ritualistic, his first stop in his search for a church was attending a Mass to “get it out of the way.”

“It all clicked,” he said, when he saw the Latin Mass “in all its glory.”

Now he is a regular attendee at the Extraordinary Form Latin Mass celebrated each Sunday at 9 a.m. at Sts. Francis and Clare Mission in Edgewater.

Likewise, his girlfriend, Vida Tavakoli, knew she had found her home in the Catholic Church when she first attended Latin Mass in England.

Formerly an atheist, her aversion toward religion changed at the end of her college career, when she became a Protestant. During her post-collegiate travels she became resolute in converting to Catholicism after attending a Missa Cantata, or sung Mass, in the parish of her favorite author, J.R.R. Tolkien, a devout Catholic who penned the “Lord of the Rings” series.

Though the homilies, the first reading and a translation of the Gospel are said in the vernacular, the prayers at the Extraordinary Form of the Mass are chanted in Latin, in the Church’s traditional Gregorian form.

When she heard Latin hymns coming from the choir loft, Tavakoli said, it felt like “hearing angels on high.”

She was mesmerized. “It truly is extraordinary,” she said. “There is something beautiful and sacred about this form of the Mass.”

You can read the rest of the post here.

“There is something beautiful and sacred about this form of the Mass.”

“I especially enjoyed Communion (at traditional Latin Mass), where instead of going up to the priest, the priest comes to you at the kneeler.   It was a visible reminder for me that receiving Christ in the Eucharist is a gift given out of love and not a right to claim for granted.”

With statements like this about the Traditional Mass, I still wonder, WHY O WHY, Fr. Diwa, WHY Fr. Malicdem are you so hostile about the Traditional Latin Mass?

Is it poison?   Is it dangerous to the Faith?

You don't speak out against the liturgical abuses committed at Mass but you come out guns ablazing against the Traditional Mass!

Other than CAREER SUICIDE...I can't see other reason why you hate that form of the Mass.

Prove me wrong.

Pleeeeaaaasssseeeeee!

What is so evident in the apostolates of Chupungcan Liturgists

There is a not so old news about Pope Francis defending Summorum Pontificum from Italian bishops who expressed their dismay over the motu propio liberalizing the Traditional Latin Mass.

One salient point mentioned in one of my fave blogs, Hermeneutic of Continuity, that posted this news is the observation of Fr Tim Finigan, owner of the blog about the attitude of these bishops:

"One thing that jumps out of the story is that the bishops of this region judged that their main pastoral priority - to be communicated to the Pope on a five-yearly visit - was to attack Summorum Pontificum. Forget abortion, embryo experimentation, the push for same-sex marriage throughout Europe, the loss of faith of many Catholics and our failure in catechesis and evangelisation. No, the really big problem is a small number of priests legitimately saying the old Mass. Given what Pope Francis has said about the danger of being a self-referential Church, I can well imagine he gave them short shrift."

Quite honestly...THIS is the same attitude of Chupungcan Liturgists!

The likes of Fr. Genaro Diwa, Fr. Reginald Malicdem and all those at the Liturgy helm in the Archdiocese of Manila continue to suppress the implementation of Summorum Pontificum.

To continuously mock in their classes, in seminars, in talks the liturgical teachings and practices of Benedict XVI.

Yeah, of course they are liturgists...but they are also priests!

They owe their obedience to the Pope.  They openly defied this pope when he was still gloriously reigning!  And now that he is emeritus, they continuously mock him!

They have made it their battle cry to fight whatever it is expressed in the motu propio.

Forget the RH Law or even other issues attacking the heart of civilization and Christianity.

What is important is to destroy the teachings of Benedict XVI in the liturgy because for them is more important that contraception, homosexual marriage, divorce and other issues attacking the Church.

Their silence against these issues is deafening!

One of the legacies of the late dean of Filipino liturgist!

God have mercy on his soul!

Just as Fr. Z once blogged, "He did more harm than good."

I still wonder...

why great minds in Liturgy like the late Fr. Anscar Chupungco and his protege', Fr. Geny Diwa hate this soo...MUCH!

Care to enlighten me why?

Only answer I could think of is that their life's work of promoting "active participation" their own brand of it that is (more lay movement at the sanctuary than in the pews) and inculturation (more men dancing in G-strings and pan de sal for the host) will go down the drain.

Wasted.

Well, they'd rather have a fulfilling career than return the sense of the sacred back!

Makes sense no?

Anyway, they are just Priests of Jesus Christ.

I still thank those priests I have had the pleasure and honor to be with who showed me what liturgy really is!

Thank you!

You are the reason why I have this blog in the first place.

You know who you are.

Ad multos annos for you!

And for Fr. Geny Diwa...

TLM and Guido Marini to stay under Pope Francis!

Here is a blog entry from Sandro Magister, which was published in Italian.  This one here is from Google translate.

My Italian is a bit rusty so I settled for this one.

***

Among the bishops who went by Italian Francesco in "ad limina" visits, those of Apulia were the most talkative in reporting things said to them by the pope.

There was only the "revelation" - then partly contradicted by Father Federico Lombardi - the bishop of Molfetta Luigi Martella on two encyclicals on the road: the first, on faith, signed by the current pope, but written by his predecessor, the would still finishing up in his hermitage, and the second, on poverty, all at the hands of the reigning Pope.

There were also some rumors regarding the liturgy.

He started the Archbishop of Bari, Francesco Cacucci, which the Vatican Radio said that Pope Francis would have urged the bishops to "live the relationship with the liturgy with simplicity and without superstructures."

Then it was the turn of the Bishop of Conversano and Monopoli, Domenico Padovano, who told their clergy that the bishops had complained of Puglia with the pope on the work of division created within the Church by the champions of the Mass in the ancient rite. [I wish I had a dollar every time I read or heard that!  As if the new Mass did not create any division when it was introduced!  Ha!]

And what would they answered the pope?

According to reports by Monsignor Padovano, Francis would have urged them to be vigilant over extremism of some traditionalist groups, but also to build on the tradition and make it live in the Church with innovation.  [innovation?]

To illustrate this last point, the pope would bring their own example:

"You see? They say that my master of papal ceremonies [Guido Marini] is a traditionalist, and many, after my election, they invited me to lift it [remove him] from office and replace it [him]. [Bad translation.  Many liberals don't like Guido Marini.  I am pretty sure the other Marini would want to get back at the helm.]  Actually meant, I said no, because I myself could draw on its [his] preparation and traditional at the same time he can benefit, in the same way, most of my training emancipated. " [Hmmm...Liberal training.....he learns from me and I learn from him?]

If authentic, words are instructive about the liturgical spirit and style of celebration of the pope.

But not sure in what sense the bishops have interpreted the Puglia region.

Another of them, and one of Cerignola Ascoli Satriano, Felice Di Molfetta, a former president of the Committee of the CEI for the liturgy, in a message to his diocese wrote among other things:

"I did not fail to rejoice with the pope on the style of celebration that has taken, a style inspired by the 'noble simplicity' sanctioned by the Council, showing particular attention to the subject and which has suffered from its high-profile considerations theological and pastoral shared by all the members present.

"I have enjoyed so much for the dialogue created, Having occupied by a life in teaching and sacramental liturgical theology in capturing the interest of the Holy Father on this vital aspect of the Petrine ministry, which he exercised both in the celebrations is working in Santa Marta in those solemn as in the Vatican Basilica for the canonization of the 800 martyrs of Otranto: A Celebration contained in time and in his overall performance ritual.

"Papa Francesco, in the light of certain phenomena of the recent past in which they were recorded in liturgy quite a few drifts, urged us bishops, referring also some concrete examples, to live the relationship with the liturgical action, since the work of God , as true believers beyond every pompous ceremonialism, fully aware that the 'noble simplicity' of which the Council speaks, but it is not sloppiness Beauty, beauty with 'B' capital. "  [Those are full of meaning!  If I read it right, Pope Francis would want to go beyond the ceremonialism but not to the point of being sloppy.  Well, problem is, who determines what is too pompous and what is too sloppy.  That is why you have rules.  Those are the purpose of the rubrics.  Say the Black, Do the Red.]

But Francis Pope enlist in the ranks of the progressives in the liturgical field is at least risky. It does not appear at all, in particular, that he is hostile to the liberalization of the Mass in the ancient rite, determined by Benedict XVI with the motu proprio "Summorum Pontificum" in 2007.

While it is true, that Monsignor Di Molfetta that year was one of the most combative critics of the motu proprio, before and after its publication.

He judged the Mass in the ancient rite "incompatible" with the post-conciliar and busied himself, without success, because the CEI produce an interpretative note - strictly - the "Summorum Pontificum".

***

Seems like Msgr. Guido will definitely stay, which good for him and for those hoping for the retention of the hermenuetic of continuity in the liturgy espoused by Pope Benedict.

And at least Summorum Pontificum stays.

But.....

Liturgy is still a work in progress.

Especially when you have this guy around.

Traditional Latin Mass in Quezon City featured in a major newscast

This is the kind of news Fr. Anscar Chupungco and Fr. Geny Diwa would definitely not WANT to be seen.

They are most probably hoping that the Misa ng Sambayanang Pilipino would rather be featured.

Hoping that other Filipino priests saw this news and get enlightened that the Traditional Latin Mass was NEVER ABROGATED contrary to what the monk was saying in his seminars and classes.  And you, too, Fr. Godwin!

The video of the TLM in Holy Family Parish begins at the 1:48 mark.

Notice in the video one Mass goer was invited.  She is not Filipino.  :)

And try to find me in the video.  ;)

Hey Teletubbie and Google Liturgist!  Here is your clue!

Ha!

TLM in St. Peter's Basilica!!!

Di Noia and Llovera

From Andrea Tornielli

***

I gladly accepted to celebrate next Saturday’s mass for pilgrims who came to thank the Pope for the gift of the motu proprio Summorum Pontificum because it is a way to make others understand that it is normal to use the extraordinary form of the Roman Rite…” This was the answer Cardinal Antonio Cañizares Llovera, Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship, gave to Vatican Insider when asked about the meaning of next Saturday’s (3 November) mass which will be celebrated at 15:00 in St. Peter’s Basilica. This morning, the spokesman for the “Una cum Papa nostro” pilgrimage announced that Archbishop Augustine Di Noia, Vice President of Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei will be present at the mass.

What is the point of the pilgrimage?

To give thanks to God and thank the Pope for the motu proprio he issued five years ago, recognising the value of the liturgy celebrated according to the missal of the Blessed John XXIII and marking continuity with the tradition of the Roman Rite. By recognising the previous liturgy one understands that reform does not mean doing away with older traditional practices.”  [Well, for Fr. Anscar Chupungco, who thinks he has more liturgical expertise than Joseph Ratzinger, he believes Vatican II did away with the Missal of John XXIII.  So, the reform, according to him, actually scrapped the Old Missal.  That is why he is so dead-set to implement his rubbish Misa ng Sambayanang Pilipino all under the inspiration of the "Spirit of Vatican II" and "inculturation".]

Why did you agree to celebrate mass for pilgrims who follow the pre-conciliar Rite?

I agreed because it is a way to show people it is normal to use the 1962 missal: there are two forms of the same Rite but there is only one Rite, so it is normal to use it during mass celebrations. I have already celebrated a number of masses according to the missal introduced by the Blessed John XXIII and I will gladly do so again on this occasion. The Congregation in which the Pope has called me to act as Prefect does not oppose the use of the old liturgy, although the task of our dicastery is to enhance the meaning of liturgical renewal according to the directives of the Sacrosanctum Concilium constitution and follow in the footsteps of the Second Vatican Council. In relation to this it must be said that the extraordinary form of the Latin Rite must draw inspiration from the conciliar Constitution which in the first ten paragraphs focuses on the true spirit of the liturgy and so is relevant to all rites.”  [Which in FACT, the Council Fathers wrote and they drew their inspiration from the TLM and NOT the Mass of Paul VI.  Logic!  During Vatican II, there was no Mass of Paul VI.]

What is your opinion regarding the implementation of the motu proprio Summorum Pontificum, five years on?

“I do not know the details regarding the world situation, partly because it is the Ecclesia Dei Commission that deals with this but I think that people are gradually beginning to understand that the liturgy is core to the Church and we have to revive the sense of mystery and sacredness in our celebrations. [Do you get that feeling when you see the Mass of Fr. Sobrejuanite on Studio 23, or the Mass of Fr. Glenn Paul Gomez on Channel 2?  Or the Mass of Fr. Chupungco with all the inculturated elements, like folk dancing, earthen jars, etc.?  Nah.  Pure entertainment.] Furthermore, I believe that five years on we are able to better understand that it is not just about some faithful feeling nostalgia for the Latin Rite but about adding to the meaning of the liturgy. We are all part of the Church, we are all in one communion. Pope Benedict XVI explained this very well and on the first anniversary of the motu proprio, he recalled that “no one is unwelcome in the Church.”  [Well, Holy Father.  Archdiocese of Manila is exclusively for those who either believe or studied under Fr. Anscar Chupungco's school!  One guy is implying that you can't be COMPETENT to become a Master of Ceremony if you haven't gone to Bukidnon and San Beda Liturgy School.  Daym!]

***

It is NORMAL to celebrate it.

Then, why, pray tell....

Does Fr. Anscar Chupungco and Fr. Genaro Diwa doing all in their power to STOP the Extraordinary Form of the Latin Mass to be celebrated in the Archdiocese of Manila, more specifically in more prominent churches in the Archdiocese, huh?

Pray tell...

Why Fr. Diwa even called up a bishop to "advise" him to not attend another TLM and be photographed with the group since they will use this as "political leverage" for their "pro-SSPX agenda ".

Yeah.  That is the same thing I heard from a priest who once celebrated TLM who eventually got booted out of his order because of his nasty temper and went to another parish and then...

Ooops!

Too much details!

And...I am digressing.

Well, anywho.

Pray tell....

Oh, Most benevolent liturgical experts!

Just try to attend one, if you think it is all but normal.

Just sit there in a pew...........during a TLM.........and pray.

5 years after Summorum Pontificum

***

Ever since Summorum Pontificum took effect in September 2007, Mary Kraychy has heard many laudatory comments regarding the traditional Latin Mass.

Kraychy is the executive director of the Coalition in Support of Ecclesia Dei, a group formed to support Pope John Paul II’s 1988 apostolic letter, issued motu proprio (“on his own initiative”).

In the document, the Holy Father notified the Church of the excommunication of five clerics associated with the Society of St. Pius X, Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre being the most notable among them.

However, Ecclesia Dei also contained the announcement of a pontifical commission by the same name, whose purpose was to facilitate the full ecclesial communion of those who had been associated with the Society of St. Pius X by allowing for wider use of the traditional Latin Mass.  [This was in 1988 folks!  I only learned about Ecclesia Dei in 1992 when some mysterious person sent me a booklet of Michael Davis about the Traditional Latin Mass.  And did we even hear bishops and priests talk about the motu propio?  Nah.  Cardinal Sin and the CBCP in 1988 was busy praising the 1986 revolution.]

“Pope John Paul II wanted the Society of St. Pius X to understand that, while he did support their appreciation for the traditional liturgy, he wanted to ensure that it would be offered under his guidance as the visible head of the Church,” Kraychy said. “He encouraged bishops to make ‘a wide and generous application of the directives’ released by the Congregation for Divine Worship in a 1984 letter regarding that very issue.” [which did not happen and 1988 and which STILL is not happening even after Summorum Pontificum.  Why you might ask?  Read on.]

That letter, Quattuor Abhinc Annos (Four Years Ago), was sent to the presidents of bishops’ conferences around the world. Bishops were informed that those who desired to worship according to the 1962 Missal would be able to do so, under certain conditions.

The two most significant were that those requesting such worship believe in the validity of the Roman Missal promulgated by Pope Paul VI in 1970 and that such worship occur in the times and places determined by the bishop.

However, four years after the letter was released, there was still very little response to the Holy Father’s lead, Kraychy said. She attributed this to a misunderstanding of the status of the 1962 Missal in the Church. “There was a belief, common among bishops and laity, that the traditional Latin Mass was peculiar, archaic or even downright unacceptable,” she said. “There was a widespread impression that the ‘old Mass’ had been outlawed forever and that ‘piano and guitar Masses’ in English were now the norm.”  [It was not just an 'impression'. It was being taught that this is how the Mass should be!  Dancing, clapping, guitars, etc...]

Kraychy didn’t want to stand by while this notion prevailed.

In an attempt to improve the situation, she formed, along with 14 other laypeople, the Coalition in Support of Ecclesia Dei (distinct from the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei). “We started doing everything we could to make known the status of the traditional liturgy and to encourage its broader availability,” she said.

These efforts met with success, but nothing along the lines of what happened after Pope Benedict XVI’s apostolic letter Summorum Pontificum, also issued motu proprio, took effect on Sept. 14, 2007.

On that date, priests in the Latin rite were no longer obliged to ask permission of their bishop to offer the traditional liturgy.

The 1962 Missal was officially opened up to any priest who wished to use it and to any “stable group of the faithful” who wished to participate in its use.

The Holy Father’s action facilitated an upsurge in the number of traditional Latin Masses offered. [Here in the Philippines, I would not dare use the term upsurge.  Why?  Fr. Chupungco and Fr. Diwa are relentless in their attacks against the Traditional Liturgy.  Bishops are being threatened, would you believe that, by one this priest for supporting and allowing the Traditional Mass!  Even some bishops whom I have talked with confirm that these two are doing everything they can to stop the liturgical agenda of Pope Benedict XVI and to push their own liturgical reform, which lamentably is Bugnini in all shapes and sizes!  See what you have from San Beda!  See the liturgical "art" you get from PDDM!  Their type of liturgy is to put the tabernacle to the side!]

By September 2007, Kraychy counted 235 Sunday Masses regularly offered according to the 1962 Missal in the United States. Five years later, the number has grown to 475.  [Here in the Philippines?  Let's count the Archdiocese of Manila first................NADA!  In the Diocese of Malaybalay.......Nada!  Why, you might ask did I single out those two dioceses?  Because those two are the places frequented by our world-renowned liturgist!  He has inexplicable clout in those dioceses!  And yet......what do we have there?  KUMBAYA MASS!!!]

“We had seen a slow but steady increase in the number of Sunday Latin Masses prior to September of 2007, but since then, it has become a rapid and steady increase. If you take the previous five-year period [2002-2007], there was a net gain of 55 Sunday Masses, while in the last five years, there was net gain of 240,” she said.

When it comes to weekday Masses, the numbers appear to be even more impressive, Kraychy believes, although the coalition does not keep exact figures for them.

“In addition to the priests who offer the extraordinary form exclusively, there are many more who do so on a limited basis, usually during the week,” she said. “The former group is comprised mostly of order priests, such as those from the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter [FSSP] and the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest. The latter group is mostly made up of diocesan priests.”

Diocesan priests constitute the majority of participants at liturgical workshops sponsored by the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius. The classes on topics like the history, spirituality and rubrics of the traditional Latin Mass started just prior to the release of Summorum Pontificum and continue to this day.

Over the past five years, almost 1,000 priests and seminarians have been trained by the Canons Regular to offer Mass according to the 1962 Missal. Roughly 80% of these participants are from dioceses, and 20% belong to religious orders.

The next workshop will take place Oct. 23-26 in Chicago, where the 1,000th participant will be trained. This is in stark contrast to the years before Summorum Pontificum, when Father Scott Haynes of the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius said training occurred only on an as-requested basis: “Before the release of the Holy Father’s motu proprio, we had one or two priests at a time come to us for assistance in learning the 1962 Missal. Then, immediately before it came out, we had our first official workshop, and we haven’t let up since. We’re very pleased with the Holy Father’s action, and we’re eager to help more priests and seminarians learn what is now called the ‘extraordinary form.’”  [Here in the Philippines, priests come to be trained.......on a per request basis....and even lying to their bishops or superiors as to the real reason where they are going and for what.  Yup.  Philippines.....home of world renowned liturgical expert, still in pre-Summorum Pontificum era.....still can't say goodbye to the 1960s and 70s.]

There is an online tutorial available at the Canons Regular’s website (Canons-Regular.org), along with other resources on the traditional liturgy, such as CDs, DVDs and books.

A new book, The Mystical Theology of the Mass, will be added to the assortment later this year. It was written by Father Haynes and includes a foreword by Cardinal Raymond Burke and an introduction by Alice von Hildebrand. The book — and many of the other resources — are designed for both clergy and the laity.

The Canons Regular also provide instruction for laypeople, and Father Haynes welcomes this opportunity to make the extraordinary form better understood and accepted.

“There are definitely laypeople who already have a desire to participate in the extraordinary form, but there are some who aren’t sure what to expect, and some are even apprehensive,” he said. “We want to assure them that while there are different forms of the Mass, we’re all Catholic, and we’re not in a competition. We’re simply trying to give due honor to almighty God through reverent worship.”  [But Fr. Chupungco and Fr. Diwa think we are in competition, and frankly, I agree with them.  One of the rare times actually.  Why?  Imagine pitting the TLM against the Misa ng Sambayanang Pilipino.....If this were a wrestling or boxing match.....expect a major squashing to happen.  Train-wreck!  TLM against the G-string clad liturgical dancers of Fr. Chupungco?  I'd rather watch paint dry.....Ugh!]

The goal of reverent worship has also been a hallmark of Jesuit Father Joseph Fessio’s life. The founder and president of Ignatius Press believes that the Mass can be offered reverently in both the ordinary form (according to the Missal of Pope Paul VI) and in the extraordinary form (according to the Missal of Blessed Pope John XXIII).  [Yes, I agree.  But why has Fr. Chupungco and Fr. Diwa not done anything?  Why are they preventing the TLM to be offered freely without their "veiled threats" to bishops and priests wanting it?  it just really baffles me.  Do they seriously think that they can go up against Pope Benedict XVI?]

“While it may surprise some people, I think the ordinary form of the Mass, if it is actually conducted as Pope Paul VI intended, can be just as beautiful as the extraordinary form,” Father Fessio stated. “But it can’t be done arbitrarily, as it largely has been over the past four decades. It has to be done as it was truly intended by Pope Paul VI.”  [but it is being done arbitrarily.  Just open your TV sets every Sunday morning! And where are the liturgical experts to clamp down on these abuses?  NOWHERE!]

What does such a Mass look like? Father Fessio indicates that it looks much like a Mass offered according to the 1962 Missal.

This is one of the reasons he doesn’t use the unqualified term “Latin Mass” regarding the older Missal. “The specific reasons people list for attending the extraordinary form are things such as use of Latin, the priest facing the same direction as the congregation, the employment of Gregorian chant. Yet all of these can be done with the ordinary form.” [Yes!  Sacrosanctum Concilium specifically mentioned it but Fr. Chupungco is openly against it!]

Father Fessio utilizes these features at his own Masses, including those he celebrated recently at the Napa Institute’s second annual conference. “At the Napa conference in late July, there were four to five Masses per day, and all of them were done ad orientem — with priest and people facing in the same direction. This was true of the ordinary and the extraordinary form, and no one seemed to have a problem with it.”  [Imagine the likes of Frs. Anton Pascual, Glenn Paul Gomez, Mario "Swswswshhhh" Sobrejuanite doing this....ad orientem....I can imagine them frothing in the mouth for being able to flash their pearly white teeth in front of the camera while doing their "Bob Barker" style of worship.  Ha!  Imagine the torture they had to go through.  Forget "Fr." Archie Guiriba.  He is hopeless.  He really has to work hard to feed the fruits of his loins.]

A major reason why it went so smoothly, Father Fessio believes, was Summorum Pontificum, which made the extraordinary form more available than it had been. “There’s no question that Summorum has made the extraordinary form more available, so the faithful have been able to witness the beauty of the traditional liturgy firsthand. The horror and hostility expressed by some at the release of Summorum have been blunted by the reality before their eyes. For five years we’ve seen that there’s nothing to fear, but much to be thankful for.”  [Ha!  Tell that to Fr. Diwa, Fr. Chupungco, Fr. Sobrejuanite!]

This gratitude has made Father Fessio’s work of restoring the novus ordo Mass much easier. “When the faithful realize the novus ordo was supposed to be an organic development of tradition, rather than a break from it, things go more smoothly in steering it to where it should be,” he said.

One major inspiration for Father Fessio’s labors is Pope Benedict, who taught him in graduate school. “I was very fortunate to learn from one of the best minds in the Church while pursuing my doctorate in theology,” Father Fessio said. “He has had important things to say on so many topics, but the liturgy is one realm that might stand out above the rest. Even in the 1970s, he was publicly questioning the reforms taking place, because they were not called for by the Fathers of the Second Vatican Council, and they did not constitute an organic development of the liturgy.”  [Do you think the Misa ng Sambayanang Pilipino of Fr. Chupungco is an organic development?  How can be a development when the Mass was played up like a jigsaw puzzle!]

These criticisms didn’t become well known in the English-speaking world until Ignatius Press published The Ratzinger Report in 1985 and Feast of Faith in 1986.

Then, in 2000, came The Spirit of the Liturgy, his best-known work on the topic.

By the time he succeeded Pope John Paul II in 2005, a number of observers expected Pope Benedict to do something grand regarding the traditional liturgy. Their expectations were met in 2007 with the release of Summorum Pontificum, a document that has helped in very practical ways to renew appreciation for the sacred liturgy in the hearts and minds of the faithful.

***

But much more has to be done.

Summorum Pontificum is not yet fully liberalized.

Bishops and priests are still openly hostile towards groups promoting the Traditional Liturgy calling them "SSPX Supporters"  Ha!  I wish I had a dollar every time I read that!  Or maybe write it in ALL CAPS!

5 years after the issuance of Summorum Pontificum, priests who openly celebrated it are marginalized, ridiculed made fun of.

One priest even told me that one of his confreres asked if most of the TLM goers are rich people!

See that?

There is your compass pointing to their "North".

That is their inspiration!

Not really about the form of the liturgy eh?

So, I'll repeat what I have posted before.

If the richest people in the Philippines, like Henry Sy, Lucio Tan, Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, all the other billionaires in the country would ask for the Traditional Latin Mass expect the likes of Fr. Anton Pascual, Fr. Glenn Paul Gomez, Fr. Mario Sobrejuanite to scamper to traditional groups asking to be trained to say the EF Mass.  Expect them to wear the black cassock everytime.....with biretta and cappelo romano for sure.

30 pieces of silver anyone?

5 years and counting

It was in Sept. 14, 2005, when the whole world, and I mean the whole world, woke up to find the Traditional Latin Mass is now known as the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite and finally freed from the shackles of either ill-informed or simply paranoid schizophrenic bishops, yes there was a hint of sarcasm in there.  And oh oh oh!  I might forget.  A Benedictine monk who lost his job at Rome throwing a tantrum and liturgically controlling the Archbishops of Manila, yes with an "s", like they are his own marionette. The whole world, even non Roman Catholic and even non-Catholics, reacted to Summorum Pontificum.
Well, if there is nothing wrong with this form of Mass, WHY STILL PREVENT IT FROM BEING CELEBRATED OPENLY?
If you think, just like what the Benedictine monk and his protege keeps on saying, that the Traditional Latin Mass is only asked by the elderly and nostalgic, WHY ARE THE ATTENDEES OF THE TLM MOSTLY THOSE BORN AFTER VATICAN 2?
If you think the uneducated will never ever learn how to "actively participate" in a Mass with an unintelligible language like Latin, then WHY, DEAR BENEDICTINE MONK, DID YOU PRESSURE A LAY GROUP SPONSORING A TELEVISED MASS, AFTER THEY BROADCAST A TLM ON TV?

So to celebrate that time when Pope Benedict XVI in 2005 did the best thing as a PASTOR and not some swivel chair executive who just imagines the Mass he wants in his secluded hermitage down South (yeah because he got kicked out of Mendiola), I received this email for an important Mass on FRIDAY.

Latin Missa Cantata in the Extraordinary Form of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, in the presence of Arma Christi and the Relic of the True Cross, at 8pm on Friday, 14 September 2012 at Holy Family Parish Roxas District, Q.C,; and the 5th anniversary of the implementation of Summorum Pontificum. Everyone's invited!

OF and EF Mass: Mutual enrichment

I am for both as I have blogged many times before!

BUT!

If given a choice.

I'd go to the ones that my great grandparents and ancestors loved.

Nuff said.

Let the discussion....begin!

My fave cardinal laments the resistance against Summorum Pontificum

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Five years after Pope Benedict issued Summorum Pontificum, his motu proprio permitting priests to offer the extraordinary form of the Mass without first having to obtain permission from their bishops, Cardinal Raymond Burke lamented “resistance to what the Holy Father has asked.”  [Hello to my beloved followers Frs. Anscar, Geny Diwa, Reginald Malicdem!  Yeah, they read the blog!  Booyah!!!]

“There's no question that there remains in certain places [like the Philippines!] a resistance to what the Holy Father has asked, and that's sad," said the prefect of the supreme tribunal of the apostolic signatura. “It's sometimes even an expression of disagreement with the Holy Father's discipline and even an expression that this is harmful for the Church.”  [or harmful for their theological agenda or their book selling and seminar business?  Ha!]

With his apostolic letter "Summorum Pontificum," issued July 7, 2007, Pope Benedict allowed priests to offer the Tridentine Mass without special permission from their bishops. [Why you might ask.  Because the bishops keep on saying "No!" even if the priest or the people ask for it!]  The decree also provided for the establishment of "personal parishes" dedicated to the traditional liturgy, which had passed out of use amid the modernizing changes that followed the Second Vatican Council of 1962-1965.

"What earlier generations held as sacred, remains sacred and great for us too, and it cannot be all of a sudden entirely forbidden or even considered harmful," the pope wrote at the time in a letter presenting his announcement to the world's bishops.  [unfortunately, a priest, with initials GD think it is harmful and that the TLM will be used for political purposes.  Bah-humbug!]

Pope Benedict made it clear that he was acting in part to promote reconciliation with the disaffected traditionalists of the Society of St. Pius X, who had broken from Rome to protest some of the teachings of Vatican II and subsequent changes to the liturgy.

Last month, following three years of on-again, off-again talks, the Vatican announced that the traditionalists had been offered formal terms of reconciliation. Though the SSPX has warned of persistent "doctrinal difficulties" that could prolong negotiations, Cardinal Burke has told Catholic News Service that he believes a reunion will ultimately take place[for as long as radical liturgists and political cardinals are kept at bay!]

But satisfying the demands of the traditionalists was not Pope Benedict's only purpose in issuing "Summorum Pontificum." The pope wrote that he acted in order to "preserve the riches which have developed in the church's faith and prayer, and to give them their proper place."  [Which these liturgists think is garbage?  Why?  Because it is not their typical office desk liturgy, a Mass that has been the product of their classroom experiment, where?  in Bukidnon and San Beda?  Owwww....]

In the same letter, the pope also affirmed that the older and newer versions of the Mass could be "mutually enriching." For Cardinal Burke, such mutual enrichment is part of the so-called "reform of the reform," the process of repairing the deficiencies of the liturgy introduced under Pope Paul VI.

The reform of the Roman Missal in the period following Vatican II was "too radical," and "went beyond, and in some senses perhaps not completely coherently with, what the council fathers had set forth," the cardinal says.  [Did the Benedictine or his padawans think so this way?  Nah!  They just celebrated SC.]

“There was a stripping away, a changing of the form of the rite that in my judgment was too much,” he added as he commented on the liturgical changes that followed the Second Vatican Council. “You can't take a living reality, the worship of God as God has desired that we worship him, and tamper with it without doing violence and without in some way damaging the faith life of the people.”  [Look at the kind of inculturation we had after Vatican II, as if inculturation was not done before Vatican II.  Hello!  Look at the Sinulog!]

The use of Latin was far from the most important loss, the cardinal says, noting that even the newer form of the Mass is still regularly celebrated in the church's universal language.

Among the other elements of tradition that Cardinal Burke hopes the church eventually will restore to the Mass in its newer version are the opening prayers at the foot of the altar, which he says provide an "immediate tie-in" to the liturgy's Jewish heritage: the psalms once sung by the high priest in the temple in Jerusalem [I still could not get it why the prayers at the foot of the altar have been removed by the liturgical wrecknovator aka Annibale Bugnini when nowhere in Sacrosanctum Concilium does it say.  Oh, wait, they'll use the stupid excuse of removing the excesses.  Yeah, as if the inculturation brouhaha isn't.]

Other features of the Tridentine Mass that the cardinal would welcome in the newer liturgy include the priest softly reciting the prayers before Communion, a period of near-silence that, he explains, "draws our attention to this most sacred part of the Holy Mass"; and the closing recitation of the prologue of the Gospel of St. John, a "hymn to the redemptive incarnation" that "sets in your mind once again the great reality which you have encountered and in which you have participated."  [Have you noticed that almost all of that which calls the sense of the sacred is immediately stripped off from the newer form of the Mass?  But hey!  Don't think I do not attend the New Mass.  I attend both.  Remember....I AM A SECRET SSPX SUPPORTER  *with echoing sound effect*]

On the other hand, Cardinal Burke says, the practice of reading scriptural passages in modern languages has been a "tremendous gift" of the post-Vatican II liturgy that should be incorporated in the Tridentine Mass. [It is actually being done even before the liturgical revolution of Vatican II.] And he says that the newer version of the Mass, in which the priest typically faces the congregation, can encourage a deeper appreciation of the "transparent devotion" with which priests should celebrate both forms of the liturgy.  [Unfortunately, making the priest face the people gave a lot of bad things.  Case in point:  More narcissistic priests.]

Of course, for the two forms of the Mass to enrich each other, both must be available. But after half-century of neglect, the cardinal notes, there is a shortage of priests with any knowledge of Latin, not to mention experience with the older liturgy, a problem which he says calls for revising seminary curricula. [are the seminary superiors or bishops addressing this?  Nah.  Better address the issue of mining.  Right CBCP?]

In the meantime, the cardinal counsels patience to traditionalists who feel "embattled" when well-meaning bishops cannot satisfy their demands quickly enough.

"It would be improper and even offensive to our Lord," he says," to have someone offering the Mass who doesn't know what he's saying or doesn't even know how to say it."

***

Summorum Pontificum was issued on July 7, 2007 or 07-07-07.  Easy to remember, right?

And still after 5 years what has happened?

Bishops are still apprehensive often pressuring priests who have celebrated the TLM, to either stop it or by assigning them to far off parishes.

Some bishops are even bullied themselves.  Hello Fr. Geny!

Yeah, I know what you did last summer.

Sayang!  Would love to have a recording of that phone call and sent it to Cardinal Burke.

Well, folk's unfortunately, some priests think they know better than the pope.  They'll tell you to not believe Benedict XVI since he is no liturgist.  Yeah, as if Bugnini was.  So it came down to a battle of degrees.

Poor Thomas Aquinas.  Poor Pius V.  Poor Gherardini.   They do not possess a degree in liturgy.

Fr. Anscar does.  But wait!  His is a doctorate in theology with a specialization in liturgy.  It ain't strictly a degree in liturgy!

A Filipino Jesuit does have a doctorate in liturgy.

But do they listen to him?

The Pope....they don't.....Bah!

Communion in the Hand is an EXTREME failure!

By FR. KEVIN M. CUSICK

At our recent celebration of the occasion of First Holy Communion for our young people, I spoke to them about the love of their parents. When they were born, I told them, it wasn’t enough for their parents to simply look at them, or to be with them. A parent’s love for a child is so overwhelming and so powerful that he or she immediately reaches for the most passionate expression of love they can muster which is a kiss.

We tell our children quite rightly and often that God loves them more than anyone else possibly can, that God’s love is greater than any human love. In his writings on the Eucharist, the Holy Father Benedict XVI likens the love of God for us in the Eucharist to giving us a kiss. If this be the case, then reception of the Eucharist in the hand is like giving the Lord a handshake when what He offered was a kiss. We all know what it means when someone refuses a kiss and responds instead with a handshake and it doesn’t mean a return of the affection offered.  [Great comparison if you ask me.]

For this and other reasons, I have come to believe that chief among the indults which have abysmally failed to improve Catholic faith and life as promised is this one which touches upon the central act of worship: the permission to replace with Communion in the hand the normal, universal, and noble custom of receiving the Most Holy Eucharist on the tongue while kneeling[An indult which wasn't even formally asked of the Holy Father, but was rather an act of defiance orchestrated by the King of Charismatic Movements, the liberal Cardinal Suenens of Belgium, which is happily un-Christian now.  Guess this is the fruit of his work in his country, eh?  By the way, the cardinal is opposed to Humanae Vitae.  You have an idea what he'll say about the RH Bill if he were alive today.  Well, how about same sex marriage? Hmmm...]

If the liturgy is given so that we might grow in adoration and love of Jesus Christ truly present in the Eucharist, then the abuses that I and others have seen which have resulted from the handling of the Eucharist by the faithful are responsible for encouraging not only a diminishment of love for the Eucharistic Lord but even scandal and sacrilege as well. How this disaster is supposed to improve upon the worship of the people of God I cannot say [Well, for those in the Bukidnon school think otherwise. Works wonders here, no?  Bah.]

This indult, a special permission granted at the insistence of bishops in office years ago, is one among the other indults which have rendered many celebrations of the Catholic liturgy both unrecognizable from what came before as handed down in the Church from Christ and the apostles and also unrecognizable from the many church services offered by other ecclesial bodies who deny and attack Catholic teaching. In many cases, the indults have served only to distract from the primary purpose of the Sacrifice of the Mass: to meet, know, and love Jesus Christ [aka...we don't look different from the Protestants.  In fact a friend who belongs to the High Anglicans said that they now look more Catholic than the post Vatican II Catholics.  Can't complain about it.  He is right.  No wonder there is Anglicanorum coetibus.]

In what way has reception of Communion in the hand served to deepen reverence or inculcate a more profound belief in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist? [Don't spend money on surveys.  The results are obvious.  Priests themselves have been complaining....well, those priests who care about their job and not those who care how to look entertaining and relevant and less boring...  Swswswshhhh] For over 40 years we have tried over and over again to explain the proper method for receiving Communion, the bow replacing kneeling and reception in the hand replacing receiving on the tongue[Sin of Sloth if you ask me.]

Repeated instructions have failed [like the posters!] to result in any deep or lasting change in behavior as the proposed practice as permitted by the indult has degenerated into a procession no different from that to receive the sacramentals of ashes. The communicants in many cases simply march forward and stand before the priest or other minister and sometimes hold out one hand like they are getting a handout, “ pop” the Body of the Lord into their mouths in a movement very much failing to reflect the sense that they are receiving One who is not ordinary food, and return to their pews. The indult is too difficult for our faithful and so it is simply not done properly.

There will always be those who have faith strong enough to survive any liturgical changes and who will respectfully adapt to any innovation simply because they would cooperate with anything the Church asks of them. This same group would happily have retained the noble custom of reception on the tongue if they had been left happily enough alone. [They have even removed the kneelers in the pews and even the Communion rails.  Why?  They hate kneeling.  The liberal priests I mean.]

The answer to this disaster appears to be what many priests are now doing. They introduce all first communicants to the noble custom, use the practice for the celebration of First Holy Communion, and offer to all the people of God at every celebration of Holy Mass those things necessary for kneeling and receiving on the tongue in the kneeler and a server with paten.

We are saved by grace through faith in the One we receive really, truly, and substantially in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist. The manner in which we receive Him affects our faith either for good or ill. Offering the option of receiving on the tongue while kneeling encourages those who wish to express the greatest love and reverence for the Lord truly present and invites others to do the same.

[in other words, how can you lift the senses of the faithful into the divine and supernatural when you teach them to approach the supernatural with actions which are so trivial and mundane?  By golly!  Sticking out your hand even if it were cupped like how it was quoted from St. Cyril (albeit out of context ala Iglesia ni Cristo), does not teach the person the sense of the sacred!  Can you just go out and shake the hand of the Queen of England or the POTUS?  Hell no.  Then here come the priest who treat the Lord as if he were just a mere arcade coin token.  Goodness!]

***

The Church has granted indults.  Communion in the Hand is one of them and it is not only permitted by most bishops and priests, it is even being promoted.  Remember how the troops of Frs. AC and GD made posters on dressing properly for Mass and the proper way of receiving Communion in the Hand?  Yeah.

How about the proper way of receiving Communion directly on the tongue?

Where are the posters for that?

There are other indults in the Church right?

This one is the most recent.

Where is your poster for this Fr. Diwa?

Will you have the same gusto to promote this just as you promote this manner of receiving the Lord?

I'll repeat it once again.

COMMUNION IN THE HAND IS A LITURGICAL ABUSE AND AN ABOMINATION AND MUST BE STOPPED IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH ASAP!

I am not shouting.  I am drilling a point.

Probably exasperated that this manner of communion is still not stopped, univesally.

BREAKING NEWS: ICEL Executive calls for more reverence at Mass

Really!

***

Msgr. Wadsworth in the center with Bishop Roche of ICEL, present to Pope Benedict XVI their book.

A leading liturgist [Hell no!  not the one in Bukidnon!  And the diminutive one in Intramuros who teaches at MST, NO!] has made the case for priests to celebrate Mass facing east and for communicants to kneel when they receive communion[Read that?  I guess those two guys won't agree with it.  You can bet your whole life's savings for this and you are a sure win.]

Mgr Andrew Wadsworth, executive director of ICEL (the International Commission on English in the Liturgy), said that reviving both practices would assist in the "widespread cultivation of a dignified and reverent liturgy"[I doubt those two I mentioned would ever agree.  Their academy or association or whatever in the green world that is does not even talk about these things.  In MST, which the old guy founded and where the little one still teaches, these things are taboo!  Try saying these things and you are headed to parts unknown!]

Speaking at St Mary Magdalen Church, Brighton, on 1 May, he listed criticisms of the liturgical reform following the Second Vatican Council claiming that the "casual disregard in the manner, distribution and appropriate reception of Holy Communion" had resulted in a lessening in the sense of its importance.

Mgr Wadsworth, a former Latin teacher, also encouraged a "recovery of the Latin tradition of the Roman Rite".

Watch this video of Msgr. Wadsworth.  Worth it than paying to go to San Carlos....Ha!

Latin in the Liturgy was decreed by the Second Vaticab Council but why the Bugnini-led Councilium that drafted the new Mass completely disregarded Sacrosanctum Concilium, the infallible Bible of Misa ng Sambayanang Pilipino zealots?

Don't get me wrong.  I love both forms of the Mass, EF and OF.  But you see more circus in a common OF Mass than in a circus itself.

Ever tune in to Studio 23 every Sunday morning?

The High Anglican Mass is more Catholic than the Mass in SM Megamall with all the hand-raising, (whatever that is) and tambourine dancing (whatever the hell that is) and Willy Revillame homilies of Fr. SOBREjuanite...

Yes, my dear folks.  That is what pains me a lot.

Our country has produced a world-renowned liturgist YET he is not doing anything CONCRETE to address the liturgical abuse that happens in our churches in every Mass every day.

Such a pity.  A brilliant mind reduced to getting back at the man who cost him his illustrious job in Rome.

Such a pity.

Why oh why for a brilliant man like him insist on Mass where priest and people face each other instead of facing the same direction as in worship?  Don't we all face the same direction during Eucharistic Adoration?  Isn't Mass mostly adoration?  Mass is not an entertainment program where we face a program host!

Why oh why for a brilliant man line him not do enough to ban Communion in the Hand or even recommend bishops of the Philippines to take a second look at this practice?  Has it done more harm than good?  Yes, it does.

Why oh why?!

Such a pity.

Really.

A waste of a brilliant mind.

A Cebuano columnist does a "Carlos Celdran"

From Sun Star Cebu, comes this ghastly and idiotic commentary from an unknown journalist who surprisingly won a Golden Dove Award.

No wonder GMA is not a member of the KBP, which hands out the award!

Oh, wait, this columnist is employed by GMA.

Bummer.

"Walang kinikilingan, walang kasinungalian, serbisyong KATANGAHAN po lamang!"

This columnist, Bobby "Bobo" Nalzaro, (over there  --->) started this rant about the Latin Mass after CBCP president and Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma celebrated a Solemn Pontifical High Mass recently.

By the way, that photo came from a Wikipedia entry.  WHA?!  Wikipedia knows him?  Who does?!?!  Oh, wait.  It's Wikipedia.  He might have made it himself.  HA!

(Kudos to Basilio and Noah for the tip.  Keep it coming boys!)

PATER noster, qui es in caelis, sanctiticetur [Good grief!] nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie, et dimitte nobis debita nostra sicut nos dimittimus debitoribos [bos?] nostris. El [Wah?] ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo.”

“Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum. Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, lesus. Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatorinus [a 10 year old altar boy would know this is wrong.] nunc, et in hora mortis nostrae.”

[Genius alert!  He cut and pasted these.  And still he got it wrong!  :D]

Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos. [What the?!?!?]

“Ice cre-am for sa-le he-re. Do-not uri-nate he-re.”  [Haha. Very. idjit.]

Do you understand what the words above mean? The first paragraph is the Latin version of “Our Father.” The second paragraph is the Latin version of “Hail Mary.” The third one, pronounced like Latin, actually is, “Ice cream for sale here. Do not urinate here.” Ha, ha.  [Haha. Kill me now please.  The guy is doing stand up comedy without even standing up.  Try the young kids of Baguio and Davao and they'll recite the Rosary in Latin for you.  It does not mean you do not know it means that everyone does not know it! Idjit.]

The “Doctrine of Rabatitat” is not Latin. This was coined by the late veteran trial lawyer Amadeo “Matoy” Seno [Who he?] to antagonize his lawyer-opponents, especially the young ones, in court.

How many of us understand Latin? Only very few. [weh?] Not even lawyers and law students, who usually quote Latin legal maxims like “argumentum ad hominem” (an argument directed to a person), “argumentum ad ignoratiam” (an argument based upon ignorance), [HEY HE KNOWS THIS!] “subpoena duces tecum” (to summon documents), “subpoena ad testificandum” (to invite a witness), alibi (at another place, elsewhere), “amicus curiae” (a friend of the court), “res ipsa loquitur” (the thing speaks for itself), “arbitrium est judictum” (an award is a judgment), and the most famous, “vox populi, vox Dei” (the voice of the people is the voice of God).  [He wrote that not all lawyers and law students know these phrases.  Wah!  The Philippine Bar is THAT bad!]

Latin has survived in one form or another for over 2,000 years. It is both the cognate and parent of many modern languages. Some say that Latin is a dead language. Meaning, it no longer adopts new words or meanings, unlike the English language that continues to evolve. [Hit me in the head pleeeeaaassseeee!!!!]

I am writing this in view of the latest order by the Roman Catholic Church hierarchy to revive masses in Latin. [Latest?  Order?  This guy does not check his facts straight.] For me, this is an illogical move. [for someone illogical, yeah I think so.  It follows.] What would you feel if you attend a mass and you, together with the other churchgoers, don't understand what the priest is saying? Some priests could not even speak English fluently, how much more Latin? [So?]

What about the priest's homily, will it also be in Latin? [See that?  An ignoramus and he keeps on ranting.] Yes, there is a “codigo” or a guide for both the officiating priest and the churchgoers, but can priests read and pronounce the language well? [And he thinks that Masses in the vernacular don't have a codigo, or guide with which the priest and Mass goers use?  I am pretty sure this dimwit does not even know what a Sacramentary or Lectionary is.  But, hey!  I think he knows the National Liturgical Handbook of the Philippines, SAMBUHAY! But nooooooooooo!  He does not call them codigo!] Never mind the pronunciation. The most important is comprehension and understanding.  [MIGRAINE ATTACK!!!! Ahhhhh!!!!]

Ngano pa man gud nga atong lisud-lisuron ang mga pari ug mga manimbahay? Nganong di man gamiton ang English o Bisaya nga pinulungan? [Hey dude!  Even English is not used widely in Masses in the Philippines!  Go to Quiapo and its hard to chance a Mass in English!] Mas molig-on ug mohugot ang atong pagtuo sa Ginoo kun nakasabot ta sa atong gipangadye.  [Really?  Are you sure about that?  Using the vernacular would make the people more lively and would make them learn more of the Faith? No wonder the number of mass going Catholics in Europe is going down.  Wonderful work of the Spirit of Vatican 2, eh?]

I remember that when I was still a kid, my grandmother would oblige us to join her nightly prayers. [Begrundgingly?] My lola did not finish elementary schooling but she spoke in Spanish, because she was a Spanish mestiza, and she prayed in Latin.  [She did not finish schooling but she knows Latin.  And how about those attending Latin Mass today?  How many of them are college graduates?  Huh?  Wait!  An acolyte I knew just finished high school and he knows Latin, right Neil!  Give this guy an "Anathema sit!"]

I was forced to accompany [he is not happy to be Catholic.] her in praying because she would scold me if I refused. But I was not serious then in praying because I didn’t understand Latin. [Is he now serious becauseI hope churchgoers would not adopt the same kind of attitude I had if they attend masses in Latin. Basin mangatulog lang hinuon nang uban.  [Those who go to Latin Mass fall asleep according to him.  Maybe he does even in a Novus Ordo.  How sure is he that people fall asleep in a TLM?  Jesus' name is mentioned a lot of times, you need to bow your hear every time you hear His name spoken.  How in the world would you doze off?]

(bobby.nalzaro@yahoo.com)

***

For all its worth, this guy just craves attention, that is why he writes attacks against the Catholic Church also known as "doing a Carlos Celdran".  If life is pathetic, your business is failing, you desperately crave for attention, then do the Carlos Celdran stunt.

And next time, do it in Dubai, like Carlos Celdran who got a reality check he deserves.

Did I type "he"?

Oh, bummer.

This guy equates the understanding of the language to the deep religiosity of Filipinos.  Hey!  But wait!  Filipinos were already deeply religious!  St. Lorenzo died praying the Traditional Latin Mass!  Blessed and soon to be canonized Pedro Calungsod also worshiped using the TLM!  Millions of Filipinos before Vatican 2 were already deeply religious.  In fact, the wave of nationalistic and masonic Aglipayanism diminished quickly.  The hatred of the Filipinos is not towards the Catholic religion.  So the Philippines remained Catholic!

But nooooooooooooo.....  genius Bobby Nalzaro thinks that it was because of the vernacular way of worshipping that makes more Catholics, that enriches them.

I am not saying that it is not true.  Yes, to speak the language of the people is a probably the best way to evangelize a person.  But to completely trash the linguistic heritage of the Church as something detrimental to the world.

In general, this guy does not even know what he is fighting against.  He knows jack squat about the Latin Mass and yet he has the audacity to mock it through his column.  What a way to make a big fool out of yourself in public.

Hey, BOBBY!  Try attending a Latin Mass first and holding a hand missal before you comment!

Try reading Summorum Pontificum first before you start clicking your keyboard.

Try talking to Archbishop Palma first before....oh wait.  No, stay away from him.  You just crave the attention.

Just attend TLM, read Summorum Pontificum and talk to high school kids who attend a TLM and ask them to teach you Latin.

You need a big serving of humble pie.

Imitating Carlos Celdran is dumbest thing a journalist like you should do.

PS:  I issue this challenge.

If Anscar Chupungco, Genaro Diwa, Sister Cecilia Payawal and all the bishops of the Philippines who are against the Latin Mass and who openly defy Pope Benedict XVI in his motu propio, Summorum Pontificum, think that the Latin Mass is only for the nostalgic and traditional loonies, then why not do this?

LATIN MASS FOR EVERY PARISH ONCE EVERY SUNDAY?

It's only for the minority isn't it?  What are you afraid of?

And one more thing.

ONCE MANILA CATHEDRAL IS FULLY REPAIRED,
ARCHBISHOP TAGLE SAYS SOLEMN HIGH MASS.

Hey don't blame me for starting this.

Blame Bobo, I mean BOBBY NALZARO!
