Is LA Archbishop Gomez really orthodox?

Ever since Cardinal Roger Mahoney's retirement was quickly accepted by the Holy Father and the "shocker" of an appointment of Archbishop Jose Gomez as his co-adjutor archbishop, Catholic bloggers, like yours truly are very hopeful that this Opus Dei priest can bring back the "holy" to the Los Angeles Archdiocese.

But since sitting at the the throne of Los Angeles in March 2011, Archbishop Jose Gomez has not done
anything to arrest the dissent festival called Religious Education Congress.

Apart from the brazen disregard for liturgical laws, the REC is where theological dissenters spread their lies and heresies.  A group called Concerned Roman Catholics of America (CRCOA) sounded the alarm and concern for the seeming inaction of the reputed orthodox archbishop against this event.

A priest who's said he's "not anti-choice," has publicly discussed his genitals, and has criticized the idea that truth is superior to dissent.

A priest who says the Church needs "public models" of "healthy gay priests for Catholics to reflect on," to counter "the stereotype of the gay priest as child abuser."

A professor who subtly undermines Church teachings on papal authority, sodomy, contraception and women's ordination.

A nun who's taught that "ordinary genital self-touch can be very important" for children.

A laicized priest who wants not only women priests but also women bishops.

This will be the second year that the REC will be held under the leadership of Archbishop Gomez and he still has not undone what Mahoney left behind.

Questions are:  Is Gomez really the archbishop running the archdiocese?  Is Mahoney's hand still in this event?

My dear People of God, the speakers deliver lessons openly challenging the dogmas of the Church.  And we bring in our very own Catholics to listen to their filth.

What do we do?  Well, what will Archbishop Gomez do about this?

Is he really orthodox, or more of a comformist?

AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

And we all thought that after Mahoney left everything will be purified.

Well, let's give Archbishop Gomez the benefit of the doubt.

More reasons why we need Summorum Pontificum.

'Bombed Maria' statue blessed by Pope headed to US

Rome, Italy, Apr 21, 2010 / 04:16 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- After the general audience on Wednesday morning at the Vatican, the Holy Father blessed what remains of a statue that partially survived the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima. Rome is just the first stop on an international "peace pilgrimage" by the Archbishop of Nagasaki and the "Bombed Maria," which will arrive at the U.N. in time for the start of nuclear non-proliferation talks in May.

There is little left of the once six-foot tall statue of Mary from the Urakami Cathedral of Nagasaki, just the a hollow looking visage still in one piece from the neck up. Half bleached white and half charcoal black, all that remained of the statue after the Aug. 9, 1945 atomic explosion was the head.

She is known as "Bombed Maria" locally.

According to an article published online by the archdiocese in February, Archbishop Joseph Mitsuaki Takami is on his way to unite the Italian-made statue with the remains of another statue of Mary that survived the bombing of the northern Spanish city Guernica on April 26, 1937.

In an interesting twist, all that remains Spanish statue is its head, a fact Archbishop Takami called "incredible."
The statues are being brought together during what the archdiocese is calling a "peace pilgrimage" that marks 65 years since the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs were dropped. The event is being remembered at the Guernica Peace Museum by a special exhibit.

The stop at the Vatican on Wednesday gave the pilgrimage and statue the Pope's blessing. Another stop on the way to Guernica will be Barcelona's Sagrada Familia Cathedral, to be consecrated by Pope Benedict on Nov. 7.

Reflecting on the message he wishes to convey along the route, the archbishop said in February, "Peace can never be created by violence."

He expressed his hope that the pilgrimage "not only lets more people know about the suffering caused by the atomic bombing, but also becomes an appeal for peace using non-violent methods."

With that purpose in mind, the statues will be taken by their respective bishops to the U.N. in time for to make an appeal for the renewal of the Treaty on the Non-proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

Noting the challenge of every country to rid the world of these weapons, regardless of their nuclear capabilities, the bishops of Hiroshima and Nagasaki requested in a formal statement on Feb. 26 that global leaders "take the courageous step toward the total abolition of nuclear weapons and the realization of a world without wars."

Midori Shikayama, a spokesperson for the archdiocese, told Ecumenical News International (ENI) that the head of "Bombed Maria" will eventually be taken to New York City, where it will be placed in St. Patrick's Cathedral. It will be there for Mass on May 2, the day before the inauguration of the NPT conference at the U.N.

Archbishop Takami hopes to be able to meet with Ban Ki-Moon and the NPT conference president-elect, Libran Nuevas Cabactulan, to be able to deliver them the formal statement for peace in person.

Well, the "cathedral" will not be bombed. But the pope "bombed" this sorry excuse for a Catholic priest, bishop and cardinal!

The "legacy" of Roger Cardinal Mahony

These are what Roger Cardinal Mahony will leave behind as archbishop of the largest US diocese.

Over priced cathedral -  Estimates for the restoration of the Cathedral of Saint Vibiana, damaged by the 1994 California Earthquake, ranged around $180 million.  But Mahony thinks this is too expensive for such a small cathedral.  So he built the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels priced at $250 million.  Wow!  Now that is economically sound.  His cathedra alone costs $1M.

The old cathedral and the site were taken over by the city, due to a settlement agreement with the Archdiocese where the city gave the Archdiocese the land where the new Cathedral stands. The city then sold the former cathedral building complex to developer Tom Gilmore in 1999 for $4.6 million.  The damaged cathedral structure for only $6 million contrary to Mahony's estimate of $180 million.  The old cathedral now is named simply Vibiana and it became an events center and performance venue.  The old altar can be seen in the events venue.  What a way to treat a holy place!

Unprecented settlement case - Cardinal Mahony settled out of court with sex abuse victims of priests of his archdiocese for a whopping $660 million, an average of $1 million per victim.  He tragically mishandled  the sex abuse cases in LA particularly that of Oliver O'Grady.  This ex-priest confessed to his crime to the cardinal yet Mahony transferred him to another parish instead of laicizing him or reporting him to civil authorities.  Now this is within his hands yet surprisingly the media does not throw anything at Mahony but instead on the Pope!  Why would the media do that?  Mahony is pro women's ordination!

Liturgical and Theological dissent fest -  Each year, the Archdiocese holds the Religious Education Conference where you will see, apart from dancing girls...dancing deacons and dancing bishops.   And more than that, dissenting theologians and even pro-gay marriage and pro-abortion advocates are invited as speakers. 

Drastic drop of priestly vocations -  Under Mahony's leadership, the Archdiocese registered the largest drop of priestly vocations. (The Official Catholic Directory. New York: P.J. Kenedy & Sons, 1982-2010.).  This Mahony attributes in his pastoral letter "As I Have Done for You: A Pastoral Letter on Ministry," as "What some refer to as a 'vocations crisis' is, rather, one of the many fruits of the Second Vatican Council. [I think it is!] It is a sign of God's deep love for the Church, [NO! NO!  NO!] and an invitation to a more creative and effective ordering of gifts and energy in the Body of Christ."  Honestly, he should either be a lawyer or a PR man and not a priest!

Thank God, the man is going.  I hope he answers for every bad things he did and be truly sorry for them.

BREAKING NEWS: Opus Dei Archbishop to replace Baloney ehrm... Mahoney in LA!

The American Papist is reporting that Archbishop Jose Gomez of San Antonio, Texas will be appointed coadjutor-archbishop to the forgettable Roger "why he became a" Cardinal Mahony as archbishop of Los Angeles.


Knowing the legacy Cardinal Mahony leaves in LA like the once a year liturgical and theological dissent woodstock called Religous Education Congress, the sexual abuse cases (where he knows first hand of the case of Oliver O'Grady, isn't it time that a conservative bishop from Opus Dei, (hey Dan Brown, something for you to write again!) would lead in the massive house cleaning?

Pray for both men.

Pray for Cardinal Mahoney that he repents his sins...

Pray for Archbishop Gomez that he be steadfast in following faithfully the Vicar of Christ and that he be strengthened and never waver in the enormous task ahead.

Guess we hope not to see a dancing deacon and bishop in next years Religious Ed Congress, eh?

And maybe the Taj Mahoney needs a little redecoration and reconsecration?

Too much? Maybe.
