GULP Exam #1
Nicely done. Dignified and characterized by noble simplicity. Walang kung anik-anik na palamuti.
First, relics should have been removed or at the very least veiled. Only the Most Blessed Sacrament should be the sole focus, thus all other sacramentals are covered. Second, the Most Blessed Sacrament should be reserved in an opaque taberbacle, not exposed.
During the Holy Thursday rite of Transfer of the Holy Eucharist, it is not allowed to expose the Blessed Sacrament in a monstrance or even in a ciborium. The tabernacle of reposition is closed after the singing of the Tantum Ergo.
55. The Blessed Sacrament should be reserved in a closed tabernacle or pyx. Under NO circumstances may it be exposed in a monstrance. (Paschale Solemnitatis, Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments)
Point 1: It is prescribed that the altar of repose be in the church and other than the one where Mass is celebrated.
In the picture, it is clearly on the altar where mass is celebrated.
Point 2: Father Edward McNamara, professor of liturgy at the Regina Apostolorum Pontifical University commented that "Any crosses or images that might be behind the tabernacle should be concealed using curtains or drapes of white, gold or some similar hue so that nothing distracts from the tabernacle."
>> As for the "exposed blessed sacrament in a monstance", it seems that is the image on the tabernacle's cover.
>> With regards to the 'ambiance' of the altar of repose: "Paschales Solemnitatis," No. 55, reflecting the liturgical reform, specifies: "The place where the tabernacle or pyx is situated must not be made to resemble a tomb, and the expression 'tomb' is to be avoided. The chapel of repose is not prepared so as to represent the 'Lord's burial' but for the custody of the eucharistic bread that will be distributed in Communion on Good Friday."
I think that the monstrance is part of the tabernacle's design (at least from what I saw) On a serious note: the relics should have been removed or at least veiled.
That's not a monstrance. That's just the design of the tabernacle. it's in the chapel of Holy Relics run by the discalced augustinians here in Cebu. The same church where his Excellency, Archbishop Jose Palma celebrated the Novus ordo Ad orientem.
The monstrance should not have been used.

In coram Sanctisimum the relics of the Saints should be covered or removed.

ReplyDeleteIt is on the middle of the altar, and not on the side retablo.
ReplyDeleteFuneral style arrangements? Monstrance on the Tabernacle door?
