Expertise of the Filipino Freethinkers needed for this one
Since they are all about the BRAIN.
And since they are so very good about logic, science and mathematics.
Wow...so you're suggesting that God went out of his way to save a picture of his mom? Hmmm...WHAT ABOUT THE 70-90+ PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY DIED IN THIS CALAMITY?!! But hey, at least he got to save that one picture of his mom...let's just ignore all those dead bodies. Your god needs to get his priorities straight... Wow...seriously...proclaiming the power of god in one saved picture while ignoring everything else...even if JUST ONE person had died, suggesting that the picture being undamaged is a miracle is just REALLY bad taste...try personally sharing your "miracle" to those who have lost their loved ones. I dare you.
And yes, given the opportunity to personally examine the site, I'm sure experts will be able to explain exactly why the picture was undamaged (could be something at the base of the frame or the sturdiness of the support beam directly above it, etc.). And you know, even IF they couldn't, SO WHAT?! The lack of an explanation does not prove the existence of anything supernatural. We could say aliens saved the picture since they thought she looked hot...
Well, gravity works in mysterious ways, tectonic plates works in mysterious ways, building construction works in mysterious ways, architecture works in mysterious ways, strength of materials works in mysterious ways, interior designing works in mysterious ways, concrete and wood works in mysterious ways etc etc... .
oh by the way, people died because of this tragedy.
Let me get this straight: Your god is willing use to his divine powers to protect a picture of the Virgin Mary, but he didn't think it was worth his time to protect the lives of nearly a hundred innocent people.
Why did everything else got destroyed? Could He, the omnipotent God, not save ALL? And why was this the only thing saved by Him? Is this portrait far more important than the lives lost and the properties damaged, which in turn, adversely affect the lives of everyone else still living?
The problem with being blinded is that one is awed big time and comforted by the fractional CLAIMED answered prayer than the gravity of the gargantuan cause. A tiny fraction which they are incessantly pining about for comfort as their belief is perpetually in the service of fear.
Why did God save that easily replaceable picture and not actual lives in the tragedy? But to answer your question, from one of our scientists- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selection_bias
coincidence. I could go on and on about the calculations and how lucky that statue is for not sustaining any damage.
but is this what we should be focusing on? the so called glory of god in a calamity where dozens of people lost their lives? Isn't an earthquake called an "Act of God"? and yet you have the damned stupidity to incite a flame war.
Brain? Before you start insulting the intelligence of freethinkers, learn some grammar you useless fuck. "remained undamaged" pssh.
“You shall have no other gods before me. “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
Loon church was pulverized. Several heritage churches and buildings were horribly damaged. Lives were lost. And you think this is a miracle? Paki-explain. Labyu!
To all Atheists and "freethinkers" who commented here, before you go on justifying that "many people died", "the church got destroyed", please EXPLAIN WHY THE IMAGE SURVIVED. That's the point of this post. :)
Why did the glass-encased statue of the Blessed Virgin remain unscathed? I tell you, I do NOT know. I cannot explain. Was it a miracle? It could be or it could be not. No one will know for sure, but it sure is incredible to have withstood that quake.
One thing is for sure: Mary is the prototype of the Church, being the first to be redeemed, the image of Eve redeemed from the primeval sin that plague the human race. Mary stands as a mother, like the Church, who both points us just to one single direction – to her Son.
Amidst these ruins of a physical Church, the Blessed Theotokos seems to remain standing, both a symbol and a reminder that the Church will remain standing through the ages, being the mystical body of Christ on earth as led by the Successor of Peter. No amount of persecutions, calumnies, defects of her members, natural calamities will enable the gates of Hades to prevail on her, as promised by Christ.
Praised be Jesus Christ, the Groom of the Bride, the Church!

But why did hundreds have to die instead?

Mysterious??? Was that science?

It takes a special kind of ghoul to use a natural calamity just to win a pissing contest, mate.
Did I we say that? Did we say that God chose to protect a statue over human lives? Boy, you are pissed, mate!
DeleteSelection bias.
ReplyDeleteWhy did the plants beside the church not get squashed away? And why did a non living image survive, instead of individuals? LOL. That's no miracle.
corner + column = structural integrity bonus
ReplyDeleteYung imahe naligtas pero ung mga taong namatay hindi? You idi0t take pride on that? F*ck you. Kiss my @ss.
ReplyDeleteThat very awkward moment when a house of god gets destroyed by an act of god...... priceless! :)

ReplyDeleteTry to use your brain too.

ReplyDeleteYou're Red's Spokesman right? How ya doing? Another damaso bashing day?
DeletePraise the lord! hundreds are dead but this is more important. Amen.
ReplyDeleteThe question should be: why is this house destroyed? - why couldn't this statue save it?
ReplyDeleteIf a photo of what you think God looks like is more important than the place where hundreds gather to worship than by all means.
ReplyDeleteI mean, you're using a horrible tragedy to your advantage already, so go for gold my friend.

half of your church building came crashing down, catholics died, and you are amazed that a stupid old picture remained standing. pointless.
