A Lenten Reflection
"Memento homo, quia pulvis es, et in pulverem reverteris" (Gen 3:19) [Remember O man, that you are dust, and unto dust you will return]. May the season of Lent help us to recall the original dignity and yet also of the humble state of our human condition as we prepare to celebrate the great mysteries of the Christian faith.

Beautiful words indeed. Personally, I like these words of imposition more than "Turn away from sin..."
ReplyDeleteOur guest Syro Malankara Catholic priest at UP gave a splendid homily on this verse in Genesis. The UP Masses have become more traditional. I was very pleased that the English Lenten hymns (which I haven't heard in many many years) for Ash Wednesday were sung by a baritone-cantor and these hymns are also found in the 1940 Anglican/Episcopal Hymnal!
ReplyDeleteOur priest is bi-ritual and can say the Mass in the OF, but he can't help it but celebrate the Eucharist in the reverent way Eastern Catholic priests do it. If only our Pinoy priests can do the same, show that very mystical reverence to Jesus under the appearances of bread and wine!
