The future pope from Milan
Giovanni Battista Montini, then Cardinal Archbishop of Milan, proudly wearing his galero. Notice the tassels hanging. Just like how it would look at the episcopal arms. And modernist liturgical hobbyists say he is not traditional. Bah!
I just stumbled upon it at the NLM recently, and being Filipino myself, I just needed to check it out.
I would just like to correct you on the caption, Sir. The clerical headress that His Excellency Archbishop Montini(we can see that he was still an Archbishop when this photo was taken because the Cassock is not watered silk which should be proper)is wearing is not the Galero but the Capello Romano with tassels.
Archbishops and Bishops do not have the right to wear the Galero until they were raised to the Cardinalatial dignity and Princes of the Church.
Personally though I like to see our bishops wear the capello with tassels and call them Galero. The cardinatial galero is too huge to be worn though it would be nice to see them wear it again during their creation in consistory.
Great Blog Sir!
