Let's accept it: they won! Overtime, the altar crucifix in papal masses has become smaller and smaller. I can recall of at least one instance when Francis chose not to incense the very small altar cross in front of him. After incensing the altar, at the start and offertory of the mass, he turned around and incensed the huge church crucifix behind him instead.
