GULP Alert: Cardinal Tagle does not know his liturgy

Hmmm...

Mass for the Sick...chasuble is BLUE?!?!

OH!  Now I get it.  It is the Mass for Our Lady of Lourdes!

But...but...Blue is not a liturgical color we use for all Masses of the Blessed Virgin, no?

The Ordo says White.

And why is the concelebrating priest being anointed with Oil of the Sick

Maybe he is sick too, no?

    1. Nicole, there are laws and rules to follow. Even the Pope follows it. It is not just what you think or feel that matters.

  2. Exceptions were granted to countries which Spain colonized (Latin American and Philippines) to use blue chasuble during the feast of the BVM.

    1. Fr. Gary the use of Blue is limited to a major Marian Shrine and/or a major feast. The church where this was held was at Tayuman Church, Espiritu Santo. And the liturgical "feast" of the day is the Optional Memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes.

Therefore, the "indult" does not apply on this day.

For more info, here are the useful links about this topic:

    2. Actually, the indult does not have to apply:

      http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/ccdds/documents/rc_con_ccdds_doc_20030317_ordinamento-messale_en.html#IV._SACRED_VESTMENTS

      346. As to the color of sacred vestments, the traditional usage is to be retained: namely,

      ...

      g. On more solemn days, sacred vestments may be used that are festive, that is, more precious, even if not of the color of the day.

      ...

This is the reason why even Pope Benedict XVI, bless his soul, has used blue, and even yellow colored vestments before (I assume the place where he went to could not afford the more expensive gold colored vestments, but just had some gold trimmings).

Why don't you do something more spiritually and theologically productive, instead of taking things out of context and for all we know you are a wolf in sheep's clothing.

1Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm and said:

2 Who is this who darkens counsel

      with words of ignorance?

      3 Gird up your loins now, like a man;

I will question you, and you tell me the answers!

“then he looked up to heaven and groaned, and said to him, “Ephphatha!” (that is, “Be opened!”)”

    3. Well, obviously, you are the typical Google liturgist and die-hard fan of this incompetent archbishop who knows him thru the lens of the camera.

First, the Vatican document does not apply to the so-called feast you are saying since that day is the, read this, OPTIONAL MEMORIAL of Our Lady of Lourdes. Cardinal Tagle wore NOT A FESTIVE vestment but with a chasuble with a dominant color that is blue.

      Second, you talk of ignorance.

LOOK HERE FOLKS! HERE IS ONE! HA!

  3. Why are you so critical and intolerant of your peers when it comes to dress code? I mean, is it now a sin for a bishop to wear blue chasuble when doing mass? O.o

    1. I kept on searching for the word "sin" in my post and I can't find it. Can you help me find it, Jeph? :)

    2. I agree with you TPC,,, mind "optional memorial" means of less importance than feast or specially solemnities... However my main concern is, yong sinabi ni Nicole sa itaas...

  4. Hi I live in makati and would like to start attending Latin mass every Sunday. I'd prefer a church close to home but any suggestion will be appreciated. Many thanks!

  5. Well the Vatican gave exceptions. We can't be too rigid here.

  7. What is your take on liturgical vestments that have are a vast majority gold and white but with hints of blue in it? My parish (USA) uses beautiful liturgical vestments in this style when celebrating (MAJOR ONLY) Marian feasts.

Something more along the lines of this: https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTvBgheWZHVCLuP9ssLhMn5LBdMDuT63clG95JtKIzcm77QeI8Z3g

    1. Hints of blue? Nothing wrong with it. As long as the dominant color IS the liturgical color of the day.
