Did I miss something?

I may have missed some of your emails or comments in the blog as I had been on the road and in the air for a couple of weeks.

Send me one right now to remind me about it.

PS: I chose that photo because the guy kinda resembles me. ;)

First blessing: Rare sight!

After the ordination of a canon of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest.

and even the cappa magna of a cardinal is a rare sight but not abolished!

Hope Cardinal Burke becomes Pope!

First blessings such as this are traditionally done by the ordained.

But I have seen photos of ordinations in Manila Cathedral where the newly ordained, all six of them, just pronounces the final blessing after the Ordination Mass, and no personal blessing and kissing of the hand was done.

Why do away with such a wonderful tradition?

Ho-hum.

Liturgists...

Simple truth about the Catholic Church

GULP Alert: Blue as a liturgical color

As far as I know, it's use is very limited here in the Philippines.

From what I learned this photo was taken during the installation of the priest wearing a blue chasu-alb and a blue overlay stole.

And it was not a Marian feast that they were celebrating.  The parish is Marian.

The Spanish Privilege was an indult granted by the Holy See to the Spanish Crown and all its colonies and dominions to use blue as a liturgical color for feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  Since the Philippines was a Spanish colony, the "privilege" extended to us.

Here is an insightful comment from a reader of Fr. Z's post about the same topic:
1) The use of blue has a long history in the West prior to Trent.
2) Indults for blue were issued to Spain, Bavaria, and Austria.
3) The Spanish indult effectively carried over to all Spanish territories
4) The Spanish indult now effectively exists anywhere Spanish-speaking people go to Mass. This indicates to me that in future the Church should avoid regional or National indults as they are uncontainable in the age of the internet and mass transportation, immigration. Either approve it for all, or approve it for none.
5) Blue is ecumenical as it is a common liturgical color of the East.
6) The use of blue as a praxis has been historically proven not to lead to heterodoxy, unlike the liberal hetero and cacopraxies

And to cap this post, I never thought of seeing this!

Wow!

I am pretty sure the Institute of Chirst the King Sovereign Priest do not have this.

Way to go Father!!!

Sure fire way to keep boys off the altar!

Let's see if you can get any vocations to the priesthood with what you are doing here!

International Planned Parenthood is one of the supporters of the RH Bill

Dr. Malcolm Potts

Despite its current claims to the contrary, the abortion industry was never in doubt that more contraception would lead to more, not fewer, abortions. In 1973, abortionist Dr. Malcolm Potts, past medical director of the International Planned Parenthood Federation, said that “As people turn to contraception, there will be a rise, not a fall, in the abortion rate.” Dr. Judith Bury of the Brook Advisory Center chimed in a few years later that “There is overwhelming evidence that, contrary to what you might expect, the provision of contraception leads to an increase in the abortion rate.”2

The reason for this is twofold: First, contraceptives fail a certain percentage of the time. A 5% failure rate means that 5% of the couples using a certain method will be pregnant at the end of the year.

Second, the use of contraceptives gives a false sense of security that leads to risky sexual behavior. The result is more “unplanned” pregnancies and hence more abortions.

Read the rest here.

This group, International Planned Parenthood, is the world's biggest abortion promoter and provider in the whole world.

Call them the ultimate dream of Adolph Hitler!

Whatever the legislators of RH claim, countries who have legalized contraception did not legalize abortion immediately. That was the first step to the ultimate goal of abortion!

Elizabeth Angsioco, Cong. Janet Garin, Cong. Edcel Lagman, Sen. Miriam Santiago and Sen. Pia Cayetano are liable for promoting the culture of murdering defenseless human babies and for making the mother's womb the most dangerous place on earth for the defenseless!

A prayer of Catholic politicians

Prayer by Catholic Congressmen: shared by Fr. Jojo Zerrudo.  Hope all REAL CATHOLIC MEMBERS OF CONGRESS  pray this.

Tablan sana.

Ha!

Catechism: And with your spirit...

Contrary to what those who are against the correct translation are saying...

WITH YOUR SPIRIT is deep in history and meaning!

Let me share to you the reasons:

In the Bible, St. Paul, greets the early Christians this way:

"The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen." (Gal. 6:18)

"The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you." (2Tim. 4:22)

"The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit." (Phil. 4:23)

As this quotations say, the reply et cum spiritu tuo (“and with your spirit”) is an acknowledgement by the people of the grace and presence of Lord who is present and operative in the spirit or soul of the priest.

This was what St. John Chrysostom said when he gave his catechesis about the response "et cum spiritu tuo"
" If the Holy Spirit were not in our Bishop [referring to Bishop Flavian of Antioch] when he gave the peace to all shortly before ascending to his holy sanctuary, you would not have replied to him all together, And with your spirit. This is why you reply with this expression…reminding yourselves by this reply that he who is here does nothing of his own power, nor are the offered gifts the work of human nature, but is it the grace of the Spirit present and hovering over all things which prepared that mystic sacrifice."

St. John Chrysostom (Pentecost Homily)

When a man is ordained priest, the Holy Spirit comes to him and leaves that indelible mark in his soul. By responding "And with your spirit" and not just a mere "And also with you." we acknowledge that mark in the person most especially the soul of the priest.

So when you respond when the priest says "The Lord be with you." remember the deep history and meaning of that greeting.

It is not a simple "Good morning."

So to priests..........

The notion of them losing in next year's election will definitely make them change their minds!

NO TO RH BILL!

Despicably cheap!

Catholics for RH is a brain-draining term.

You can't be Catholic and be for artificial contraception. Some may say that the Christians sin but it does not make them "not Christian".

True! But you cannot promote the immorality and the sin in public!

RH is against the moral doctrine of the Catholic Church!

Will this same group of people promote prostitution, child labor, drug addiction, gay marriage, if ever these things are discussed in Congress?

That is the same logic they are using.

You can't be someone who professes to be a member of an organization and yet you do your own smorgasboard of what that organization is supposed to be!

If you are an employee who just chooses which company policy you'd follow and disobey the ones you don't like, well expect the pink slip anytime soon.

But for these Catholics, who are obviously being well fed by the RH financial machinery, 30 pieces of silver won't hurt at all.

Probably, they want the whole world before they lose their soul in return.

Breaking News: A TLM friendly archbishop of San Francisco!!!

Guess where these nuns were?

When they started worshiping this way......

It was during Holy Mass which formed part of their Retreat.

These group of nuns are the Franciscan Sisters, T.O.R. of Penance of the Sorrowful Mother. The photos came from their Facebook page.

This might be part of their charism, to worship this way, but certainly, not my cup of tea, nor is it a liturgical practice of the Catholic Church.

Pentecostal style of worship happened only during Liturgical Revolution after Vatican II when it was a free for all. Anything new for as long as the old is dumped and forgotten!

Jews did not worship this way...nor did the early Christians no matter how some nutty liturgist try to revise history.

GULP Alert: Another nauseating sight

Here is our happy photo during our excursion!

Lovely day!

450 years ago, the Carmelites were reformed!

Vatican City, (VIS) - Benedict XVI has sent a message to Bishop Jesus Garcia Burillo of Avila, Spain, to mark the 450th anniversary of the foundation of the Monastery of St. Joseph and the beginning of the Carmelite reform by St. Teresa of Avila. The message, ample extracts of which are given below, is dated 16 July.

"The reform of the Carmelite Order, the anniversary of which fills us with inner joy, arose from prayer and tends towards prayer. In promoting a radical return to the original Rule and abandoning the mitigated Rule, St. Teresa of Jesus sought to create a form of life which favoured a personal encounter with the Lord, finding 'a place where we can be alone and look upon Him present within us. Nor need we feel strange in the presence of so kind a Guest'".  [The Pope emphasized the need of the Carmelites to go back to the original Rule, which led St. Teresa of Avila to found the Discalced Order.]

"St. Teresa presented a new way of being Carmelite in a world which was also new. Those were 'difficult times' in which, according to that Mistress of the spirit, ... 'the world is on fire. Men try to condemn Christ once again. They would raze His Church to the ground. No, my sisters, this is no time to treat with God for things of little importance'. Does this luminous and engaging call, written more than four centuries ago by the mystic saint, not sound familiar in our own times?"  [Really familiar isn't it?]

"The ultimate goal of Teresa's reform and the creation of new monasteries in a world lacking spiritual values was to protect apostolic work with prayer, proposing a form of evangelical life that would act as a model for people seeking the path of perfection, on the basis of the conviction that all authentic personal and ecclesial reform involves an ever more faithful reproduction of the 'form' of Christ in our own selves. ... Today too, as in the sixteenth century, in the midst of rapid transformation, it is important that trusting prayer be the heart of the apostolate, so that the the redeeming message of Jesus Christ may sound our clearly and dynamically. It is urgently important for the Word of life to resound harmoniously in peoples souls, with sonorous and attractive notes".  [That is why I love the Carmelite spirituality!  Discalced actually, ha!]

"The example of St. Teresa of Avila is of great help to us in this exhilarating task. In her time the saint evangelised unhesitatingly, showing tireless ardour, employing methods free from inertia and using expressions bathed in light. This remains important in the current time, when there is a pressing need for the baptised to renew their hearts through individual prayer in which, following the guidance of St. Teresa, they also focus on contemplation of Christ's blessed humanity as the only way to reach the glory of God".

"The power of Christ will lead to a redoubling of efforts to ensure that the people of God recover their vigour in the only way possible: by finding space within ourselves for the feelings of the Lord Jesus, and in all circumstances seeking to live His Gospel to the full. This means, above all, allowing the Holy Spirit to make us friends of the Master and to mould us to Him. It also means accepting all His mandates and adopting in ourselves criteria such as humility of conduct, renunciation of the superfluous, not harming others and acting with simplicity and humbleness of heart. Thus those around us will perceive the joy that arises from our adherence to the Lord; they will see that we put nothing before His love, and that we are always ready to give reasons for our hope".

***

The Discalced Carmelites are the reality that Orders can too lose sight of their original charism, members try to water down the Rule as set forth by their Founder.

It happened with the Franciscans when St Francis was still alive the Franciscans wanted to relax their rule on extreme poverty.  Now look at the Franciscans.  Look at this shameless guy here!

You think St. Francis would even be proud of him wearing that flashy coat?

This was what St. Teresa and St. John of the Cross did to their Orders.

Now....

WHEN are the Jesuits gonna be reformed?

Ha!

And they went out to crucify him...

St. Vincent School of Theology Chapel
Crucified without a cross?

It is called crucifixion because you nail the condemned person to a cross until he dies.

So where is the cross?

Are these people so blood-thirsty they just nailed HIM to a wall?

Funny how Evangelicals hate having a corpus for their crucifix...

....while these Modernist priests called Vincentians of SVST hate the cross.

For as St. Paul says:

"For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." (1Cor 1:18)

PS:

Have you noticed the altar?

Here is the close-up.

Hopefully.

BUT!

Greater Glory - the movie about the Cristiada War of Mexico where Separation of Church and State maniac Pres. Plutaco Ellias Calles murdered Catholics for being...well...Catholics, is still not shown here in the country.

Remember how The Passion of the Christ was supported by the SM group of Malls? I know that the wife of Henry Sy, Sr. is a very religious Catholic woman. Even the infamous Fr. Mario SOBREjuanite claimed on TV during his televised Mass that he is "close" or "friends" with Mrs. Sy.

Then, pray tell...

WHY IS GREATER GLORY STILL NOT SHOWN IN ANY SM CINEMA?

Has the priest lost his touch?

Will Fr. Mario help promote these two films?

More updates about the Rome - SSPX discussions

from the Vatican Insider

***

"The recently concluded General Chapter of the Priestly Society of St. Pius X has addressed a declaration regarding the possibility of a canonical normalisation in the relationship of the Society and the Holy See. While it has been made public, the declaration remains primarily an internal document for study and discussion among the members of the Society,” Fr. Federico Lombardi, the director of the Holy See Press Office, told journalists.

The communiqué went on to ay that "the Holy See has taken note of this declaration, but awaits the forthcoming official communication of the Priestly Society as their dialogue with the Pontifical Commission 'Ecclesia Dei' continues."

In the concluding statement of their General Chapter held between 9 and 14 July, in Econe, Switzerland, the Lefebvrians [do the members of the SSPX call themselves this way?  I don't think so.] stated: “We have determined and approved the necessary conditions for an eventual canonical normalization. We have decided that, in that case, an extraordinary Chapter with deliberative vote will be convened beforehand.” [Thank goodness, wacko Williamson was not allowed in the Chapter.]

But for Mgr. Lefebvre’s schismatic [Hmm...will the Vatican Insider use the same adjective on other groups?  Schismatic?]  followers, the “canonical normalisation” which the Vatican said would become possible if the Society agreed to recognise the Second Vatican Council - one of the conditions of the “doctrinal preamble” – is a long way off. “The Society continues to uphold the declarations and the teachings of the constant Magisterium of the Church in regard to all the novelties of the Second Vatican Council which remain tainted with errors, and also in regard to the reforms issued from it,” their statement reads.

It then goes on to say that “the Society finds its guide as well in the constant Tradition of the Church, which transmits and will transmit until the end of times the teachings required to preserve the Faith and the salvation of souls, while waiting for the day when an open and serious debate will be possible which may allow the return to Tradition of the ecclesiastical authorities.”

***

I still say that a Syllabus of Errors against the erroneous and ambiguous interpretation of Vatican II be brought out.

Only a definitive statement from Peter would help.

In the meantime, read Fr. Z's excellent commentary and warning against the attitude of the SSPX towards the generosity of the Holy Father.

St. Vincent School of Theology might be in big trouble!

There is an "Eastern Catholic Church" here in the Philippines...

BUT!

This group is NOT IN ANYWAY connected to the Catholic Church, meaning it is NOT IN COMMUNION with the Bishop of Rome.  (Get that Noah?)

With that said...

They have claimed that they can trace their orders back to the Apostles.

Does Thuc and Milingo ring a bell?

Considering that these group is one of those bogus claimants to the their "Catholicity", (hello Mark Bunag!), would you even be surprised if you read one of these entries.

Mar Yokhannan Bar Thoma and Mar Shimun-Artemus Bar Tooma consecrated to the Sacred Episcopate: Mar Basillius Bar Thoma (Bishop Fredelito Bendal Palmes – Joven y Vargas) for the Eastern Catholic Church Metropolitan See of the Philippines and All Asia on December 28, 2007 at St. Vincent Theological Seminary, Tandang Sora, Quezon City.
Well, does St. Vincent care about heretics, schismatics?

Nah.

They are one!

You might say that the bogus "Easterners" just used the name of the school...

Nah.

Doubt that it is just using the name.  There is a higher probability that IT DID HAPPEN.

But they call the SSPX schismatics and heretics.

Would they let the SSPX hold a Solemn High Mass in their premises?

Nah!

Would turn them all Vincetians to dust.

Will the Bishop of Novaliches ever discipline these Vincentians?

Nah.

The monstrance containing the Blessed Lord was taken stolen from the Adoration Chapel of St. Peter's Church and NO Act of Reparation was even done.

I think Bishop Tobias does not know anything about this, nor does he ever plan of disciplining the dissent factory called SVST.

So...

Nah.

Move along.

Our bishops don't care about Catholic schools teaching heresy and dissent.

Anymore priests and liturgists you could name are against the liturgical reforms of Pope Benedict XVI?

Liturgical Reform ok? Not just against Summorum Pontificum, ok?

Sacrilege!!!

To none speakers of Tagalog, the video below is about the theft of the monstrance containing our Blessed Lord in the Parish of St. Peter in Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City.

I do not want to imagine what they did with Him.

The Parish, which is weirdly called, St. Peter Parish - Shrine of Leaders  [WHA?!?]  is frequented by a lot of the faithful.  I find it weird that the parish does not even have a security guard on duty to watch at the Adoration Chapel.

The monstrance, the report says, is gold plated and was bought at Rome.

What I hope to learn is if the parish even would schedule a Mass of Reparation for the committed sacrilege.

If the parish or the diocese even knows about such things need to be done after such a hideous crime against the Lord in the Eucharist is committed.

Please pray this after watching the video, please pray this:

Act of Reparation to the Most Blessed Sacrament

With that most profound respect which divine Faith inspires,
O my God and Saviour Jesus Christ, true God and true man,
I adore Thee, and with my whole heart I love Thee,
hidden in the most august Sacrament of the Altar,
in reparation of all the irreverences, profanations, and sacrileges, that I,
to my shame, may have until now committed, as also for all those
that have been committed against Thee,
or that may be ever committed for the time to come.
I offer to Thee, therefore, O my God,
my humble adoration, not indeed, such as Thou art worthy of,
nor such as I owe Thee, but such, at least,
as I am capable of offerings; and I wish that I could love Thee
with the most perfect love of which rational creatures are capable.
In the meantime, I desire to adore Thee now and always,
not only for those Catholics who do not adore or love Thee,
but also so supply the defect, and for the conversion of all heretics,
schismatics, libertines, atheists, blasphemers,
sorcerers, Mahomedans, Jews, and idolaters.
Ah! yes, my Jesus, mayest Thou be known,
adored, and loved by all and may thanks be continually given to Thee
in the most holy and august Sacrament!

If I had a choice

And a gun we're pointed at my head...

I'd rather go to this...

To you dear Lady of Mt. Carmel!

From the first moments of my life,
You took me in your arms.
Ever since that day, dear Mother,
You’ve protected me here below.

To preserve my innocence,
You placed me in a soft nest.
You watched over my childhood
In the shade of a holy cloister.

Later, in the days of my youth,
I heard Jesus’ call!…
In your ineffable tenderness,
You showed Carmel to me.

“Come, my child, be generous,”
You sweetly said to me.
“Near me, you’ll be happy,
Come sacrifice yourself for your Savior.”

Close to you, 0 my loving Mother!
I’ve found rest for my heart.
I want nothing more on earth.
Jesus alone is all my happiness.

If sometimes I feel sadness
And fear coming to assail me,
Always supporting me in my weakness,
Mother, you deign to bless me.

Grant that I may be faithful
To my divine Spouse Jesus.
One day may his sweet voice call me
To fly away among the elect.

Then, no more exile, no more suffering.
In Heaven I’ll keep repeating
The song of my gratitude,
Lovable Queen of Carmel!

GULP Alert: Confusing...really

From The Tablet

Yeah, the photo itself gives me a major migraine!

The practice of lay people or consecrated Religious conducting communion services in the absence of a priest is a hindrance to priestly vocations and confusing to the faithful, a senior Vatican cardinal has warned. [Read my long rant below.]

Cardinal Raymond Burke [My fave cardinal!], prefect of the Apostolic Signatura, made his remarks at the Fifth Fota International Liturgy Conference in Cork this week. He said it was "not good for people to participate repeatedly in these kinds of services on Sundays because they lose the sense that the Blessed Sacrament - Holy communion - comes from the sacrifice." [This kind of "service" came from protestants who do not even believe in the sacramental presence of the Lord.  Have you ever heard your "catholic" priest, nun and religion teacher telling you that Christ is still present whenever "two are three are gathered" in His Name?  And that He is still present in the Word that we "reflect and share"?  Oh yeah, heard it a million times. But wait!  What about his sacramental presence in the Blessed Sacrament?  Whatever happened to that?]

Cardinal Burke said that Services of the Word separated the Eucharist from the vocation of the priest. He added: "It shouldn't surprise us that the number of vocations plummets."  [it should not come as a surprise when we make our priests ordinary social workers, movers and shakers, like the revolutionary Jesus of the Liberation theologians, what is the use for the priesthood whose main purpose is to offer sacrifice?  And what is the need for a priest to offer sacrifice when you have Christ present everywhere...in nature, in our neighbors...he is Cosmic, just like the Christified thing that the Jesuit Music Ministry of Ateneo de Manila University wants to convey.  Christ is the Avatar!  So, what is the need for Holy Orders?]

***

In fact there are some religious, the ones in habit but are too radical and angry at anything masculine that they think it is their right to distribute Holy Communion even if they are not the Ordinary Minister of Holy Communion, and women will never be, or even if these women have not been instituted.  Some even rant that this practice "demeans" women.  Boohoo!!!!  Cry babies.  I am a man, and even if I can, I will never and would not want to become an EMHC and would not demand such a privilege for me because I still believe that only consecrated hand should touch the Holy of Holies.  Period.  So yes, I completely agree with my fave cardinal on this issue.

Imagine a little kid seeing this scene in their chapel, parish, chapel this scene?  What would the kid think?  Can the ordinary kid distinguish between a Mass and a Communion Service?

Whatever happened to the Sacrifice when you just let a simple layman or a nun dreaming of becoming a priest, for what they say is Vatican III (dream on!)

Ask any ordinary Mass goer every Sunday about what they think the Communion Service is anything different from the Mass and you'll be surprised to know that most would say that the Communion Service is led by the lay minister (their definition, not mine!) while the Mass is led by the priest.

Just that!

The difference is on the one leading.  You don't have to be a theologian to know the difference.  Basic Catechism is all you need to know the difference.

Now, are you still wondering why we either have no Catechism taught in our Catholic schools or we have catechism classes that teaches children to take care of nature or to love another or that the Mass is a Meal of Love and no mention whatsoever of it being the re-enactment of the same Sacrifice in Calvary?

Now are you still surprised why some of our priests think of their priesthood more of being in the spotlight and rather than offering the Holy Sacrifice?

Who do you think would want to kill the Catholic priesthood?

Fruits of Vatican II?

What do you think?

Are all religions equal?

Is Buddha, Mohammed, Vishu and all the other gods of other religions an expression of the One True God we Catholics worship and adore?

For a fan of Feng Shui Bishop Jaucian, Christ is!

Yup!

Heresy alert.

Go on over that old post of mine condemning the statement of Bishop Jaucian which goes like this:

“God is present in other religion and culture so the belief in Feng Shui, Astrology, and praying at Buddhist temples should be perceived as instruments that all draws us closer to God."

Views like this are products of MODERNISM being taught in our theology schools and seminaries.  Yes, even bishops preach it!

And go answer that die-hard fan that he too is a HERETIC in his views.

In the meantime, watch this and learn:

My fave cardinal laments the resistance against Summorum Pontificum

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Five years after Pope Benedict issued Summorum Pontificum, his motu proprio permitting priests to offer the extraordinary form of the Mass without first having to obtain permission from their bishops, Cardinal Raymond Burke lamented “resistance to what the Holy Father has asked.”  [Hello to my beloved followers Frs. Anscar, Geny Diwa, Reginald Malicdem!  Yeah, they read the blog!  Booyah!!!]

“There's no question that there remains in certain places [like the Philippines!] a resistance to what the Holy Father has asked, and that's sad," said the prefect of the supreme tribunal of the apostolic signatura. “It's sometimes even an expression of disagreement with the Holy Father's discipline and even an expression that this is harmful for the Church.”  [or harmful for their theological agenda or their book selling and seminar business?  Ha!]

With his apostolic letter "Summorum Pontificum," issued July 7, 2007, Pope Benedict allowed priests to offer the Tridentine Mass without special permission from their bishops. [Why you might ask.  Because the bishops keep on saying "No!" even if the priest or the people ask for it!]  The decree also provided for the establishment of "personal parishes" dedicated to the traditional liturgy, which had passed out of use amid the modernizing changes that followed the Second Vatican Council of 1962-1965.

"What earlier generations held as sacred, remains sacred and great for us too, and it cannot be all of a sudden entirely forbidden or even considered harmful," the pope wrote at the time in a letter presenting his announcement to the world's bishops.  [unfortunately, a priest, with initials GD think it is harmful and that the TLM will be used for political purposes.  Bah-humbug!]

Pope Benedict made it clear that he was acting in part to promote reconciliation with the disaffected traditionalists of the Society of St. Pius X, who had broken from Rome to protest some of the teachings of Vatican II and subsequent changes to the liturgy.

Last month, following three years of on-again, off-again talks, the Vatican announced that the traditionalists had been offered formal terms of reconciliation. Though the SSPX has warned of persistent "doctrinal difficulties" that could prolong negotiations, Cardinal Burke has told Catholic News Service that he believes a reunion will ultimately take place[for as long as radical liturgists and political cardinals are kept at bay!]

But satisfying the demands of the traditionalists was not Pope Benedict's only purpose in issuing "Summorum Pontificum." The pope wrote that he acted in order to "preserve the riches which have developed in the church's faith and prayer, and to give them their proper place."  [Which these liturgists think is garbage?  Why?  Because it is not their typical office desk liturgy, a Mass that has been the product of their classroom experiment, where?  in Bukidnon and San Beda?  Owwww....]

In the same letter, the pope also affirmed that the older and newer versions of the Mass could be "mutually enriching." For Cardinal Burke, such mutual enrichment is part of the so-called "reform of the reform," the process of repairing the deficiencies of the liturgy introduced under Pope Paul VI.

The reform of the Roman Missal in the period following Vatican II was "too radical," and "went beyond, and in some senses perhaps not completely coherently with, what the council fathers had set forth," the cardinal says.  [Did the Benedictine or his padawans think so this way?  Nah!  They just celebrated SC.]

“There was a stripping away, a changing of the form of the rite that in my judgment was too much,” he added as he commented on the liturgical changes that followed the Second Vatican Council. “You can't take a living reality, the worship of God as God has desired that we worship him, and tamper with it without doing violence and without in some way damaging the faith life of the people.”  [Look at the kind of inculturation we had after Vatican II, as if inculturation was not done before Vatican II.  Hello!  Look at the Sinulog!]

The use of Latin was far from the most important loss, the cardinal says, noting that even the newer form of the Mass is still regularly celebrated in the church's universal language.

Among the other elements of tradition that Cardinal Burke hopes the church eventually will restore to the Mass in its newer version are the opening prayers at the foot of the altar, which he says provide an "immediate tie-in" to the liturgy's Jewish heritage: the psalms once sung by the high priest in the temple in Jerusalem [I still could not get it why the prayers at the foot of the altar have been removed by the liturgical wrecknovator aka Annibale Bugnini when nowhere in Sacrosanctum Concilium does it say.  Oh, wait, they'll use the stupid excuse of removing the excesses.  Yeah, as if the inculturation brouhaha isn't.]

Other features of the Tridentine Mass that the cardinal would welcome in the newer liturgy include the priest softly reciting the prayers before Communion, a period of near-silence that, he explains, "draws our attention to this most sacred part of the Holy Mass"; and the closing recitation of the prologue of the Gospel of St. John, a "hymn to the redemptive incarnation" that "sets in your mind once again the great reality which you have encountered and in which you have participated."  [Have you noticed that almost all of that which calls the sense of the sacred is immediately stripped off from the newer form of the Mass?  But hey!  Don't think I do not attend the New Mass.  I attend both.  Remember....I AM A SECRET SSPX SUPPORTER  *with echoing sound effect*]

On the other hand, Cardinal Burke says, the practice of reading scriptural passages in modern languages has been a "tremendous gift" of the post-Vatican II liturgy that should be incorporated in the Tridentine Mass. [It is actually being done even before the liturgical revolution of Vatican II.] And he says that the newer version of the Mass, in which the priest typically faces the congregation, can encourage a deeper appreciation of the "transparent devotion" with which priests should celebrate both forms of the liturgy.  [Unfortunately, making the priest face the people gave a lot of bad things.  Case in point:  More narcissistic priests.]

Of course, for the two forms of the Mass to enrich each other, both must be available. But after half-century of neglect, the cardinal notes, there is a shortage of priests with any knowledge of Latin, not to mention experience with the older liturgy, a problem which he says calls for revising seminary curricula. [are the seminary superiors or bishops addressing this?  Nah.  Better address the issue of mining.  Right CBCP?]

In the meantime, the cardinal counsels patience to traditionalists who feel "embattled" when well-meaning bishops cannot satisfy their demands quickly enough.

"It would be improper and even offensive to our Lord," he says," to have someone offering the Mass who doesn't know what he's saying or doesn't even know how to say it."

Summorum Pontificum was issued on July 7, 2007 or 07-07-07.  Easy to remember, right?

And still after 5 years what has happened?

Bishops are still apprehensive often pressuring priests who have celebrated the TLM, to either stop it or by assigning them to far off parishes.

Some bishops are even bullied themselves.  Hello Fr. Geny!

Yeah, I know what you did last summer.

Sayang!  Would love to have a recording of that phone call and sent it to Cardinal Burke.

Well, folk's unfortunately, some priests think they know better than the pope.  They'll tell you to not believe Benedict XVI since he is no liturgist.  Yeah, as if Bugnini was.  So it came down to a battle of degrees.

Poor Thomas Aquinas.  Poor Pius V.  Poor Gherardini.   They do not possess a degree in liturgy.

Fr. Anscar does.  But wait!  His is a doctorate in theology with a specialization in liturgy.  It ain't strictly a degree in liturgy!

A Filipino Jesuit does have a doctorate in liturgy.

But do they listen to him?

The Pope....they don't.....Bah!

Q&A: About celebrity healers

A letter from one of our loyal readers that deserves an attention here at TPC but because I am sooooo mobile these days, I find hard to answer and blog.

But here it is!

Dear Sir,

Hi The Pinoy Catholic! :)

I'm a fan of your blog! Through your blog, I have seen someone who tirelessly defends our true Catholic Faith. [THANK YOU!] At the same time, your blog is so informative. [that is what TPC is for!] For a long time, I've been against and irritated with liturgical dances and reenactments during the Gospel, [which is one of the reasons why I put up the blog.] which was one of the reasons why I stopped attending the Mass (now I do again). But I hadn't known how to refer to those until I read your blog. Now I know they are "liturgical abuses."

I'd like to ask about Faith Healing. [This is going to be interesting.]
What is the stand of our Church, and what do you personally think of Fr. Joey Faller [uhm....] and Fr. Jerry Orbos [uhm....] who are faithful priests in a way that they actively spread God's words, but call themselves as "Healing Priest" ? In addition, I've read that Fr. Orbos has been touring to various countries with Fatima Soriano. I assume you've seen her in television. Fatima herself says that she has received the "gift of healing" and is a visionary of Mama Mary.

It's also kind of creepy when the person being prayed over falls down. Fr. Orbos said to Fatima that that's what happens when Holy Spirit is taking over to heal the person. [I'll dissect this below.] It looks to me as if an evil spirit has taken over. [Oh come on.] Isn't that it should be the other way around, as in the person wakes up or becomes more alive?

I read in your blog, how the laity should never lay their hands to pray over the healing of a person, as it's an act that is reserved for the ordained priest.

Would you please share your thoughts? :)

Can they be classified as occult practitioners?  [No I wouldn't.]

I've read this article about Fatima and Fr. Orbos, with a disturbing picture.
http://www.mb.com.ph/node/315438/the-healer-who-love
[That one in the photo is not Fr. Orbos.  I do not know who he is but he looks familiar but certainly not Fr. Orbos.  Geez, Fr. Orbos gained weight that fast!  hahaha]

It is even the priest being prayed over and being laid hands on by Fatima!

Thank you so much! :)

M. K.

Dear M.K.

Many thanks for your continued support and trust in our Work.  It is taxing indeed but I know I am doing the right thing.

Thank you for your patience in waiting for my response to your email.

Now here is my take on what you wrote to me.

What do I think of healing priests?

I think healing priests are here to stay.  There have been documented healings of priests.  Documented in the sense that there is the proverbial before and after testimonies of those healed.  But a word of caution though.  These so-called healings have not been attested by the Church just as miracles of healings have been dealt within the process of the canonization of a candidate for sainthood.  There is a need for a verification of a medical expert to attest that the healing of a person was not through a medical intervention and that science cannot possibly explain how the healing happened.  It should also be ascertained that the healing was through the intercession of the candidate for sainthood.  Therefore, the bottom line, the Church is not that generous to declare a miracle.

Now going to the case of the so-called healing priests and healing lay people such as that of Fatima Soriano.  If you ask me if they really can heal.  I don't know.  Do I believe them?  No.

Remember that even the so-called messages and visions that Fatima Soriano receives have not received any official recognition by the Church, so I'd rather treat these pronouncements as of a personal experience level.  Call it what you want, but it is not official.

You might ask, "Why is the Church allowing this?"

Actually, a lot of people have asked that and the answer is simple:  Just as the Church is careful in declaring a miracle a miracle, so She is also careful not to condemn these priests of lay people who can heal.  People have been touched and their lives brought closer to the Lord because of the work of these men and women.

What I am apprehensive of is the claim of any charismatic leader, both in TV and radio (most especially in Radio Veritas) to claim that they have healed this person or that person, or that person has a prayer request granted due to this evangelists or prayer leader's intercession.

And sadly, this becomes a springboard for the group's request for Love Offerings.  And I know how this is handled.  But I digress.

About people getting "smitten by the Holy Spirit", yes that is the term to call those falling to the ground after they have been touched by the "healing priest".

Personally, I don't believe it.  Sorry to say this and I know a lot of people would go up in arms against this.  But I have experienced this laying on of hands of so-called healing priests and for more than a couple of times, all I felt was the hand of the priest pushing me back hard to the point that I almost fell to the ground.  But I stood my ground.  And I was left standing!  Literally.  What did the assistants of the priest told me?

"Brother, you did not let the Spirit enter you!  Soften your heart."

What the?!?!?

As far as I can recall in Catechism class, the Holy Spirit came down on me during my Baptism and Confirmation.  And they are Sacraments!

Are these laying on of hands of these priests, Sacraments?  Nooooooo.....

My point is:  I did not feel anything when I received my Confirmation.  I cannot remember what I felt when I was baptized for obvious reasons.  Duh.  But do you have to fall down to confirm that it is INDEED the Holy Spirit who came down on me?  Did the Virgin Mother feel that during the Annunciation? Did the Apostles and the Blessed Virgin experience that in the Upper Room?

No, no, no.  I cannot find that anywhere in the Bible.

In fact, the Bible teaches us that there are a number of gifts that the Holy Spirit bestows upon us.

The Catholic encyclopedia has discussed it in detail.

In conclusion let me quote this from the Lord Himself:

Mt 7. 22-23: "Many will say to me on that day: Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name, and in your name cast out devils, and have done many marvels in your name? And then I will admit to them: I never knew you: depart from me you workers of iniquity."

And in Lumen Gentium: ". . . they are not to be rashly sought, nor should one presumptuously expect of them the fruits of the apostolic works; but the judgment as to whether or not they are genuine, and as to their ordered use pertains to those who are in charge in the Church . . . ." When these gifts are used with careful discernment of spirits and obedience, they are "fitting and useful for the needs of the Church"

I know some of these people who claim to do wondrous things in the name of the Lord only to find out that their work has strings attached to the pouch containing the 30 pieces of silver.

Indeed, you shall know them by their fruits.

The Church has not given an official recognition to their so-called "miracles". So personally, I will not believe them.

Lay people laying on of hands to heal?

St. Pio of Pietrelcina stayed locked in his cell for so many years, yet he was seen, heard and he healed a lot, physically and spiritually.

Just saying.

Pray it works.  If you want to lay hands, uhm...

You can pray without laying your hands or extending it over a person.

Just pray.  I've had a lot of answered prayers and it did not require any laying on or stretching of hands.

Just saying.

RANT TIME!

I recall a priest-friend (Father Z) telling me this true story oh how his brother priest asked him about his ministry. And the killer question was this:

Priest: Father, how are the donations in your ministry? Is it profitable?

Boom!

Imagine if you dangle a pouch of 30 pieces of silver in front of them.

As I have said it before and I will repeat it again.

If the business tycoons like Henry Sy, Lucio Tan, Jaime Zobel de Ayala and the other rich and powerful men and women of this county are devotees of the Traditional Latin Mass, expect the likes of:

Fr. Archie Guiriba, OFM
Fr. Mario Sobrejuanite, SSP
Fr. Anton Pascual
Fr. Gerry Orbos, SVD
Fr. Glenn Paul Gomez, SVD
Fr. Sonny Ramirez, OP

to even scrambling to the nearest SSPX chapel to learn how to celebrate the TLM, and you have the TLM weekly on national TV and you have Frs. Chupungco and Diwa giving lectures about the beauty of the TLM!

You can bet that!

Let's try this.
Fr. Sobrejuanite, don't try shielding Mrs. Sy from devotees of the TLM to talking to her. Betcha she'll be surprised to see that the Mass she grew up with and which fostered the Faith in her is still available!

Katie Holmes comes back to the Catholic Church

Yehey..........Wha?!?!

Read below why I was surprised.

From this website.

***

Following the quick and unexpected settlement of her divorce proceedings, Katie Holmes has been doing a bit of house-cleaning in her personal life, part of which includes her return to the Catholic faith, five years after leaving it in favor of soon-to-be ex-husband Tom Cruise’s Scientology. [that is such great news isn't it?]

Holmes’ return to Catholicism is evident due to her registration as a parishioner at the Church of St. Francis Xavier in New York City. “Everyone is thrilled to have Katie join us,” a member of the church’s choir told the Huffington Post. “She has not yet attended a service, but when she does she will be welcomed with open arms.” The church is known for its open-mindedness, particularly its welcoming of gay and lesbian couples. [WHAT?!?!? Is this really a Catholic Church? Well, I guess it is.....by name!] The parish’s mission statement says that the church “strives to be a prophetic, welcoming community, inclusive witness to the presence of Christ Jesus in our midst.” According to its website, St. Francis Xavier offers a respectful community, “where seekers and their questions are welcomed, where injustice is challenged, where the poor, the alienated and marginalized find a home, and where people are refreshed, reconciled and renewed.” [Such a ton of double speak there! No wonder there is such an impression that homosexuals think this is a safe haven for them. Or maybe the priest really is in support of such heresy.]

The warmth extended to Holmes from the Catholic Church contrasts Scientology’s reaction to the divorce. Part of the divorce settlement precludes the couple’s daughter, Suri, from being exposed to Scientology at all. “Under terms of the settlement, Suri isn’t permitted to be exposed to anything Scientology related and this includes going to any Scientology churches, parties, etc. Katie made sure that this was ironclad in the agreement,” a source told RadarOnline.

Despite the media scrutiny surrounding the implosion of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ marriage, the former couple have remained as private as they possibly can. “We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other’s commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other’s roles as parents,” said their joint statement.

Holmes’ new church has also played host to other celebrities in the past, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. [the voodoo priestess of abortion who calls herself a Catholic which Cardinal Donald Wuerl would not dare deny Holy Communion even if this woman publicly promotes abortion!]

Running a check on the Internet, here is what I found about the new parish of the soon-to-be former Mrs. Tom Cruise.

Getting out of Scientology, excellent!

Getting to a Catholic parish church which teaches Zen meditation?  Ugh!

Nothing wrong with a parish ministering to homosexuals, but we ought to ask if it is within what the Church's teachings.  Maybe those ministering to these men and women are teaching them that they "can" marry and have a "healthy active homosexual life while still remaining a good Catholic".  Oh yes, that is being taught dear friends. Thank God I have not heard any yet in a Filipino parish, but in seminaries and convents, oh yes!

So, I guess those close to Ms. Holmes should give her a better alternative for a Catholic Church to go to in New York.  I know the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal have a house there.  Maybe Fr. Andrew Apostoli can talk some sense into her.

And another question, how was she received back into the Church?  There are canonical matters she has to go through you know?  One is that she must have a public declaration of the Catholic Faith and in some instance I think, not much sure cause my canon law is a bit rusty, she might need to profess and sign her profession in front of the bishop.

But I guess, a parish that has regular sessions of Zen meditation would even care about all of these "canonical matters"

Bah-humbug!

Stupid me.

This is one of the times you miss the presence of Venerable Archbishop Fulton Sheen.

If Google continues its pro-gay "marriage" agenda....

I will transfer my blog to another hosting site.

Count on it!

GULP Alert: Retablo fail!

You think just because the crucifix is in the center and the retablo is back in the sanctuary, everything is A ok, huh?

Look at this!

Boils my blood!

Grrrrr.....

No wonder I am venting it out of RH supporters!

Ha!

The face of the Cure of Ars?

Apparently it is.

The great saint refused to be photographed when he was still alive.

So, according to the website where I got this photo, this is a reproduction of how the saint would look like just before he died.

FYI, the site is in French.  :)

Cool!

One of the coolest vocation photos I have seen!

You won't attract young men and women to join your society or congregation if you are wearing secular clothes...

And you keep on talking about Modernist rubbish!

Yeah, yeah...some would say that there are nuns and priest who wear the habit and still spread modernist filth.

Well, that is the task that we the laity should do.

Video, record, upload, report!

That's the way to do it.

As I have been hearing, this one priest will definitely be on his way to losing his license to teach Theology with his continued advocacy for married priest, contraception, selective abortion, etc.

Oh, it's true!

It's definitely true!

The Pope's letter to Cardinal Bertone

***

Vatican City, 4 July 2012 (VIS) - Given below is the text of a letter written by the Holy Father to Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone, and dated 2 July.

"On the eve of my departure to spend the summer months at Castelgandolfo, I wish to express my profound appreciation for your discreet presence and wise counsel, which I have found particularly helpful over recent months.

"Having noted with sorrow the unjust criticisms that have been directed against your person, I wish to reiterate the expression of my personal confidence, which I already declared to you in a letter on 15 January 2010, the contents of which remain unchanged as far as I am concerned.

"In entrusting your ministry to the maternal intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Help of Christians, and to that of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, it is my pleasure to send you a fraternal greeting, accompanied by an apostolic blessing as a sign of all desired goodness".

The real face of a martyr

is this the real face of St. Maria Goretti?

The Flickr page where this photo came from claims it to be so.

GULP Alert: Guess the color game!

from a dear friend....

***

Got me wondering too.

Three whites and two shades of green....

Hmmmm....

That liturgical season between Easter and Ordinary/Feria Time?

Maybe!

At least the Fathers were all turned toward one direction.

Ha!

This has become the "common" nowadays.  If you run out of vestments with the right liturgical color, use white!....

Or maybe green....

What?!

I came across a Mass where the bishop was wearing green and all the concelebrants were wearing white.  The Mass was an ordinary Sunday Mass.

They ran out of green stoles?

Thought green is the ferial color or the color for Ordinary Time.

Guess what is Ordinary is not ordinary anymore, huh?

The Pope tweeted....LOL
