Spot the Not: Eucharistic Exposition

I am a lover and devotee of Eucharistic Exposition, Adoration and Processions like those for Corpus Christi and Christ the King.

This some photo has some liturgical No-Nos committed though and I hope you can learn something from this.

Aside from the bowl of incenses burning on the altar, what else is not right with this?

By the way, the monstrance has a modern design.  I am not much of a fan of modern vessels designs but this one is simple yet likeable.

Thanks to Lieutenant Neil for the tip.  ;)

  1. I can't really tell, but is there a cloth there or is just the table/or altar? I can already see that there is no corporal underneath the monstrance so that's missing.

Other than that I don't know what else. The six candles, I think, is right, but I know traditionally there supposed to be beeswax candles so I don't know.

Ok, I know this is going to sound really really silly...but it doesn't really look like there is a consecrated host in there...I can't tell but I think I can see the smoke through the luna. I could just be blind.

And of course, the bowls of incense.

    Did I miss something?

P.S. I LOVE adoration. I'm blessed at my parish to have perpetual adoration.

    1. i think there is a cloth underneath the monstrance. The presence of the consecrated host is a question.

The incense and the candles should be placed outside the corporal.

    2. I see the corporal...I think. Lol.

Also, I am not entirely sure if this required, but should the monstrance be on a raised platform as well? I personally like this, but again, I don't know if it is required.

  2. I have heard it say that theatrical lights are not to be used to illuminate The Sacred Host.

I would say it would be necessary if the church was dark at night; At the liturgical part of Catholic Underground (Vespers and Adoration) the church is dark thus the necessity for lights of some sort so the faithful can see.

Concerning the use of incense my pastor usually leaves the thurible in front of the altar after the ministers depart; it is later retrieved to prepare for Benediction
