GULP Alert: Guess what he is doing?

Another exclusive undercover work of one of our high ranking GULP Officer.  ;)

Take note of the position of the hand?

And this is a Filipino Jesuit.

What a way to get back into blogging, to post another liturgical travesty!

  1. (1) He's wearing an overlay stole over secular clothing.

    (2) One candle?! There should be at least two. Where's the other one?

    (3) Not sure if the priest is celebrating Mass, or doing some Buddhist meditation....

  2. Are these priests just lazy to wear an alb or they can't afford to buy one?

  5. He's in this "meditation" pose used by heathen buddhists. I wouldn't be surprised if his legs were in the so-called "lotus" position. But the BIGGEST "ugh" in this photo is how this supposed priest turns his back on the Lord in the Tabernacle. As the Yiddish would say, "OY VEY!"

  6. What?! What is he doing?! Mass?! Doesn't look like Mass to me. It's a shame they often do this and endangering the faith of the flock they shepherd. I bet their saintly founders are really blushing out of shame in Heaven because of these happenings... There are good Jesuits, like our great Filipino Liturgist, Father Tim Ofrasio. (And no, Father AC is not the greatest Filipino Liturgist isn't he?) And there are also not so nice ones and ultimately bad ones.

Sad fact the they also put the Lord to the side of the sanctuary. I think this practice, of moving the tabernacle to the side and ultimately putting our Lord "on exile" from the sanctuary should be corrected. The priest has his seat to the side, and that doesn't minimize his prominence, after all he offers the Mass. But having his "throne" in the middle? Well, that's another thing...

  7. this is a common practice at my university (presider celebrates mass sans vestments but stole, chalice held by non consecrated persons during communion, etc)

forgive my ignorance but why is tim ofrasio quiet?

and please, no name calling here. referring to buddhists as heathen is so uncalled for. i have neighbors here in Binondo who ascribe to this faith and i tell you, they are the most kindest and generous people I have met. I am sure Jesus the Good Shepherd will never be pleased with us stereotyping people.

keep it up pinoycatholic, you are my daily read, a guilty pleasure indeed.

    1. Pray tell me, Jopet, what is so bad about the words "pagan" and "heathen"? And what made you think that I was “stereotyping”? Can I not just be understood as calling a spade a spade? If you are a baptized member of the Catholic Church and subscribe fully to its teachings and submit to the authority of the Pope, then you are a CATHOLIC, a CHRISTIAN. If you claim to be a Christian but do not submit to the authority of the Pope and reject a doctrine or two, you are a SCHISMATIC and HERETIC. If you worship god/s other than the God of Israel, you are a HEATHEN, a PAGAN. If you do not believe that God exists, you are an atheist – actually, the Biblically correct term for such people are (drumroll please!) FOOLS.
What does the "kindness" and "generosity" of your buddhist neighbors have to do with the fact that if they persist to the end of their lives in their erroneous beliefs and reject baptism and membership in the Catholic Church, THEY WILL BE CONDEMNED TO SUFFER THE FIRES OF HELL FOR ALL ETERNITY, their good works notwithstanding?
“Oremus et pro haereticis et schismaticis: ut Deus et Dominus noster eruat eos ab erroribus universis…” (Let us pray also for heretics and schismatics: that our Lord God would be pleased to rescue them from all their errors…); “Oremus et pro paganis: ut Deus omnipotens auferat iniquitatem a cordibus eorum; ut relictis idolis suis, convertantur ad Deum vivum et verum…” (Let us pray also for the pagans: that almighty God would remove iniquity from their hearts: that, putting aside their idols, they may be converted to the true and living God). These are part of the Great Intercessions of the Liturgy of Good Friday. These prayers were lifted up to God once a year FOR CENTURIES. Was the Church STEREOTYPING all along?
“Today bring to Me the pagans and those who do not yet know Me.”; “Today bring to Me the souls of heretics and schismatics…” These are the words that Our Lord used when He dictated to Saint Faustina the prayers for the Fourth and Fifth Day of the Novena to the Divine Mercy. Was He “Stereotyping”? Was the Good Shepherd not pleased with himself when He used such words? (continued on next post)

    2. (continuation of previous post) Our Lord, being All-Truth and desiring the salvation of every man, wasn’t one who minced words for the sake of mere human respect and “political correctness”. Remember Him calling the Scribes and Pharisees as “Hypocrites”, “Brood of Vipers”, “Whitewashed Sepulchers” and even saying to St. Peter, “Get thee behind me Satan”? But there is one passage in Holy Scripture that instantly came to my mind when I read your critique of my use of the word “heathen” for your buddhist friends: “And Jesus went from thence, and retired into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon. And behold a woman of Canaan who came out of those coasts, crying out, said to him: Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David: my daughter is grieviously troubled by the devil. Who answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying: Send her away, for she crieth after us: And he answering, said: I was not sent but to the sheep that are lost of the house of Israel. But she came and adored him, saying: Lord, help me. Who answering, said: It is not good to take the bread of the children, and to cast it to the dogs. But she said: Yea, Lord; for the whelps also eat of the crumbs that fall from the table of their masters. Then Jesus answering, said to her: O woman, great is thy faith: be it done to thee as thou wilt: and her daughter was cured from that hour.” Matthew 15:21-28 (Douai-Rheims Bible) Commentaries that I have read say that this is how the Jews of the time called (or even spoke to) non-jews. Imagine Our Lord calling a helpless single mother – albeit a gentile, an idol worshipper - a DOG. Now you might counter “oh He called her that to test the faith of the woman”. But Jesus of Nazareth, who CANNOT LIE, who said EVERY word will be accounted for on Judgment Day (hence counseling Christians to prudence and truth in their speech) CALLED THE CANAANITE WOMAN A DOG. Bet that’s hard for you to digest eh? I’m not saying that we should start calling other people as dogs or whatnot, but that as Christians, we must show in words, thought and deeds the SUPERIORITY of our Religion, founded and ransomed by the Second Person of the Most Holy and Undivided Trinity. Catholicism is the SOLE bearer of the Truth of God. Other “religions” are counterfeits and lead directly to ETERNAL DAMNATION. THAT is what the Catholic Church has sung for two thousand years, and I don’t plan on changing my tune just because I happen to have nice HEATHEN neighbors.
